1. Dead VCR. I have a newer one that I had prior to being forced back home, but it appears my cable service is incompatible with VCRs. (Verizon FiOS- if anyone has found different, please say so). 2. Those digital VCR things (DVR?) all seem to require subscription services that the budget doesn't allow for. If we get one from the service provider, it's very expensive (something like $200) and murderously expensive to be allowed to use ($25/month). We have fairly basic service with the phone and Internet; it's not a bad deal, about $90/month for the whole thing, but that extra expense does make that much of a difference for us. Were it not for that, I'd be all set. Charlie Larkin

A short update, as I meant to post yesterday, and didn't get a chance. Even after a couple of days soaking in soapy water, those decals still won't budge. Wow. The only thing I can think of is SuperClean. Anyone else have any other ideas? The 1963-64 Chevy glass has been bandied around pretty thoroughly, and I may try it. Assuming the window comes out, it can be polished out pretty easily. The chisel-blade isn't a bad idea, either. I was able to score around most of the approximate outline of the stretchers, as noted previously. The body went in the freezer on...Sunday, I believe. I simply haven't had time enough to check on it yet. Depending on progress, I might try that next. Worst case, as Tom suggested, I'll simply have to mask off and paint-in-place after masking it. After removal from the freezer, I'll see what's going on. The interior bucket is in the water now, and will be going in next. Charlie Larkin

The mention of interior colors brings me to a question I ran into with some fiddling around I was doing with my '60. What were the interior colors available on the 1960-66 trucks? I tried a little online research and didn't get very far. Does anyone have information? Charlie Larkin

Carl, I'd leave that color scheme alone. Rather, hit the interior with some semi-gloss for the seats and some dull-cote on the dash and floor. The white would have had black accents from the factory (unless you somehow managed to push through a special-order for the saddle accents). Those wires do look nice on that car; I personally would've added some whitewalls to the tires, but this model simply exudes "cool." Very well-done. Charlie Larkin

Well, I might resort to a resin chassis from Greg Wann if I decide that's the best route, but I'm going to try and repair what's there first. I suspect with a little filler and some flat black (think undercoating), I can get it to look pretty good. Those windows have been suggested as a backup if I need them. 36 MPG in the regular gas Malibu is pretty decent. I do wish they'd put a small six in it, though. Those 4-cylinder engines simply aren't smooth enough for my tastes. The 2012 Impala I had for a rental last year with the new 24-valve V6 was incredibly nice and still returned an honest 31-32 MPG, which is nothing to carp about, either. I'd love to see GM make a wholesale move to the diesel V6 in the bigger FWD cars. The new Impala with a 4-cylinder engine is embarassing, espcially considering a Taurus or Charger both come with a V6 standard, for about the same amount of money. Paying an extra $3500 to get the engine it should have in the first place is not cool. Charlie Larkin

I don't know if I'd go quite that far, Mike, but I approach restoring these poor glue-bombs like researching a grad paper, teaching a class, setting my business up for operation, or anything else...care, patience, perseverance. Does it always work? Of course not, but I owe it to myself and those counting on me when applicable, to do that. Charlie Larkin
