Any pics from the Classic Plastic Show in Ma?
charlie8575 replied to Jon Cole's topic in Model Club News and Announcements
I will agree, the show was a bit of dud this year with some very strange classifications of entries. There were, however, some very nice entries. Art Paquin told me that entries were up this year, to 297. I thought one of the nicest models there was John Dezan's Lonestar, done in Candian National Railroad livery. I also liked Vince LoBosco's Aston-Marti, I don't remember if I got any pictures of it, though. There was also a very nicely done 1970s Chevy conversion van, resplendent in it glorious tackiness! I was a bit disappointed that neither it nor its companion Chevy Van-based motorhome placed. Best of Show went to Charlie Rowley's largely scratchbuilt '59 Dodge W-300 firetruck. I didn't catch the date for next year, but I know the theme will be '32 Fords- any manufacturer, any style. Charlie Larkin -

Mike called it. I took a couple of rolls and should have it done in the next few days. If I had taken black-and-white, it would be done already, but, well, black-and-white makes it tough to describe the paint jobs. Charlie Larkin -
The built OI '71 does look nice. Are there differences in the dashboards between an SS and a Malibu or Chevelle? I'm wondering because if it's something like the gage package, those, or something that would look similar in 1/25 were usually available for all the cars in the line, so it wouldn't be an unreasonable thing to have- just not super-common in reality. I do agree, though, a bench seat and the dash with the strip-style speedo would be a nice thing to see. Charlie Larkin

At last night's MassCar meeting, I was given an unbuilt 2010 Mustang GT- also known as one of the few modern cars I find attractive. The fellow who was building it had a bit of an incident with the body. Presently, I'm attempting to figure out how to fix it (major glue/paint goober, and the windows are glued in, making repainting a bit dicey.) I was wondering- if the body can't be salvaged to my liking, does anyone make, or are there plans to make, a convertible in resin? Charlie Larkin

We have pictures! That looks great! I really like what you did with it. A black Nova, no matter the generation, seems to work well, and on that car, it's absolutely perfect. Charlie Larkin

I concur completely. Kevin and Jeff Ballard both are great guys, and two of the best in the business. I've met them both several times and always look forward to seeing them. Charlie Larkin

The DeSoto grille actually looks pretty good on the Hudson. I just wish I had an appropriate DeSoto to put the grille on, too! Perhaps someday... I'll be keeping an eye on this one. Charlie Larkin

I'm quite impressed with the hood, and great idea to have it cast. I assume it's Kevin Lutz from Missing Link that's doing that for you? Idea for the air pockets next time you run into such a problem: try popping them with an X-Acto knife and then putting a small amount of putty in. That'll fix the problem but good. Charlie Larkin

If that car was a 1:1...I'd probably buy it. Looks great! Charlie Larkin

1980's Toyota Celica-Supra WIP *engine bay/firewall detailed!*

Nice work on the exterior, too. And very nice score on the 1:1. That's in great shape. I'm guessing it didn't see a lot of winter use around there for that kind of condition. Charlie Larkin -
I'm liking where this is going. Too bad in a way that it's the American-spec car. I think an Aussie-spec Dodge would be pretty cool to see built up. Great work, please keep it coming. Charlie Larkin

worlds most expensive model
charlie8575 replied to Lownslow's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Actually, given the depressed state of real estate in Greater Boston, Derrick, with the exception of Weston (one of the ten most expensive towns in America,) The $4.8 million, even if after taxes, will still get me a decent house someplace in eastern Massachusetts, pay off everything else, get at least one business started, and buy me a new Town Car, a pickup for utility work, and clean up the Roadmaster for hauling lots of people. And I'd still probably have enough for two weeks someplace warm in January. Charlie Larkin -
Up to date license plates?
charlie8575 replied to Jon Cole's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Jon, I just ran across these. They look pretty good. I might order a few sets of Mass. plates for myself. http://bestmodelcarparts.com/products.php?view=productPage&product=70&category=11 Charlie Larkin -
Up to date license plates?
charlie8575 replied to Jon Cole's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I seem to remember two sites for plates that I don't have the link for now. 1. There was a guy in Canada that made lots of license plate and police car decals from all over North America. His prices were pretty reasonable and the product looked good. 2. There was another guy that had a landing-page that had a pair of hands in a prison uniform gripping jail-cell bars. It was something like "pl8maker" or something to that effect. He had a selection of ready-made plates from all fifty states. Anyone have either of those so I can add them back to my links? And for the record- I think the new New York plate looks pretty cool. Charlie Larkin -
worlds most expensive model
charlie8575 replied to Lownslow's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It does rather look like the windsheild is missing, doesn't it? At least as of right now (subject to hourly change considering how unstable the Euro is right now,) 3-1/2 million Euros= $ 4,849,449.84, per www.xe.com at 2:24 AM, EDT, Sept. 16, 2011. I think I'd rather a 12-room Tudor or Victorian mansion in Wellesley, Weston or Newton for that kind of money. Charlie Larkin -
Very nicely done, Jordan. Charlie Larkin

A beautifully-executed build. Painting those stripes must be a nightmare. Charlie Larkin -
Come to MassCar next year, we could use a guy like you! At MassCar, there's usually one or two little flubs, but we, as a club, try to make good on it in some way. Last year, there was no damage, which was good. The bigger problem we have is pilferage from the vendor area and the occasional model "going home" with someone other than its owner. Those actions are something I find inexcusable, and believe me, if we catch you, it won't be pretty. It usually involves a lecturing from the officers, judging team, and a personal tour of the Taunton Police Department. Charlie Larkin

My Inspirational Model Car
charlie8575 replied to Romell R's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The people who build well inspire me, regardless of subject matter. The people who can scratchbuild an entire (or close) model, like Art Anderson is doing with his 1904 Knox, is an inspiration. The Knox is a wonderful piece of building. People like Charlie Rowley, who builds beautiful trucks and Doug Estabrook, who just builds a nice, clean, accurate build that looks good on the table. And I find many of the people here an inspiration- those like Virgil Suarez, Romell, Mike Newport and Chuck Most for their commitment to excellence and creativity. Charlie Larkin -
Making license plates

Nicely done. I always liked that color, too. Charlie Larkin
