i got a question
charlie8575 replied to Brandon05l's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Is Motor Max still in business? I just went online to see if I could find their Internet page. No luck. Anyone? Charlie Larkin -
Best/Worst Winter Vehicles!
charlie8575 replied to Chuck Most's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Most of my cars have been full-size GM wagons. Even without snow tires, I've found them to be very, very good in bad weather. In seventeen years, I've only been stuck three times, which is good, and we've had some really bad storms. I found I didn't like my front-wheel-drive car as much as I liked rear-drive. I had a 1996 Lumina which wasn't bad in snow at all, but I still found it wasn't as well-balanced. The wagons, with full frames and rear-wheel drive, have, as a benefit of being a station wagon, almost 50-50 weight distribution. Of my five (plus my dad's 1978 Caprice) over the years, only two had Posi. Neither of those are the ones that got stuck. Worst car? From what I remember being told, my mom's Chevette was a little light in the back. Dad had a 1978 Impala 4-door for a little less than a year that wasn't great to get going, but once moving was fine. The studded snows helped that. Charlie Larkin -
Torqueflite transmission
charlie8575 replied to Drago's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Old cast-iron TorqueFlite: AMT 1957 Chrsyler 300. Slant 6s and most small-blocks: Lindberg 1964 Dodge 330 (I think that one is the 904.) I'm not sure if anyone makes a 727 (Big-block) at present or at least recently, however, I imagine most of the Jo-Han Chryslers of the '60s would have one that would make a good start. For clarification, I remember reading that the transmission the 1958 Plymouth is a PowerFlite, the 2-speed automatic. Can anyone confirm this? Charlie Larkin -
I especially like the Galaxie and the '49. Everything else is quite nice, too. Charlie Larkin

And I may be by winter! I'll see what I can pull off over the next few weeks, though. Charlie Larkin

I knew I saw one someplace! And I've seen some of Dave's resin. I agree it's first-rate, as is his service. Thanks! Charlie Larkin

Although your point is well-taken, that C-pillar is heavy enough that it would probably be more than enough. Charlie Larkin

I haven't seen one that I remember, but I might also have missed it. Does anyone make in resin a stock first-generation Barracuda? I think a complete (or relatively complete) kit would be best as there really isn't anything that fits off of B-bodies aside from the engine. Anyone? Charlie Larkin

WOW! Very nice. Charlie Larkin

This is actually pretty close to the factory scheme. I saw a nice '69 at a show a few years ago and took some pictures. The seats and vinyl parts of the door-panels are a medium tan, and the dash, carpeted part of the door panel, carpet and (I would presume the console-the car I saw was a bench-seat,) were a medium golden-brown color. A color like rust with a few drops of yellow or white might come pretty close for the trim. Model Master interior tan, with a drop or two of white, will probably do the rest of the interior nicely. I'm serious, Bruce, I'm ready to print this out and send it to Ford when you're done! They MUST build this, Mercury needs this car in its lineup. Charlie Larkin

Update on Clay
charlie8575 replied to marinewifejones's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
May far too many families be soon reunited, and this madness brought to an end. Anyone who does what Clay does deserves nothing less than highest accolades. Not the President, and most certainly not the dweebs in Congress, but men and women like him who actually put their all where these fools' mouths are. It is my fervent desires that the great powers that control and direct this universe allow your family to be among those forever reunited and never torn apart by madmen (of any side) again. Great work! All of them look fantastic. Charlie Larkin

Nice color, and I like what you did with the skirts. Great job. Charlie Larkin

One word: FABULOUS! Very, very nice job. Charlie Larkin

I like it! Is the Honcho a J-10, by chance? I know at least a couple of those kits were made over the years. And how hard are they to find? I'll be watching with great interest. Charlie Larkin

Nice work on that interior, Bruno. Which line of paint is Testors CA? That looks pretty good for the saddle and a few other interior colors aren't too far off from that, with or without a little tinting. Charlie Larkin

Looks good. Is that pen an auto-parts store item? Charlie Larkin

*Newbie* Hello Everyone !!
charlie8575 replied to Ace_88Z's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I would suggest using a Photobucket account to upload things, which will circumvent that problem. You can upload your pictures there for free, and follow the instrucitons here. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12248 Modify the instructions regarding the camera as-needed if your pictures are on floppy, CD or a memory stick. Merry Christmas Everyone

I've also sent a e-Mail, Ernie. May a full and speedy recovery come your way, too. Charlie Larkin -
Dave, I saw some action on this, and I re-read it, and have a couple of questions for you. 1. Dupli-Color High-Build Primer is the filler primer, I'm guessing? I've never used it, as I always thought it would fill in panel lines, drip-rails, and such, as well as completely bury scripts and other little bits. As you don't put a lot of trim on your cars, that might not be as big a deal for you, but on anything you've built with details like that, have you found it to be a problem with that primer? 2. You don't sand your paint jobs? To make sure I understand, the final finish comes from a combination of sanding cloths and various polishing/rubbing compounds? Charlie Larkin

*Newbie* Hello Everyone !!
charlie8575 replied to Ace_88Z's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Welcome, Ace. Great paint job on the Camaro, by the way. To answer your question about rims, although I don't build tuners/lowriders or stuff like this, I can tell you that one place a lot of these guys get their rims from is Fujimi, I think there are some other manufacturers of those rims, though, but I wouldn't dare swear to it. Many kits also come with rims that are appropriate to your building style as optional rims, and those of us who don't use them would probably be willing to give/sell/swap them with you. One thing asked of registrants here is to at least put your first name in the signature line. You can set that in your options. Charlie Larkin -
Thanks, Marcos. I'll try to keep an eye on the regular sources for one of those. If anyone knows of a resin source, I'd be interested in checking it out, as well. Charlie Larkin

Other favorites of mine... The original muscle car, and an expensive one at that Charlie Larkin

This is the best...if I ever follow through on my proposal to get a Slant 6-powered anything, this modification is a very real possibility. Just think, if Mother Mopar had adopted this, we might have been blessed with this engineering wonder for many more years instead of that awful cut-down 318. Charlie Larkin
