  1. Home: Marlborough Previous place of residence: Turners Falls Present: New Bedford As of about the first week of January: Back to Marlborough temporarily until my finance and parental medical and financial problems resolve themselves. If you're from Central Mass., originally, depending on exactly where, you may be familiar with Wheeler's Garage in Berlin. That's our mechanic. I still usually take my car back up to him for work. Charlei Larkin
  2. Fantastic. Reminds me of my mechanic's dad's '89. They sold Hudsons and later AMCs for many years. Actually, they started by selling Franklins. Out of curiosity, are you from Massachusetts originally? Charlie Larkin
  3. This thing continues to amaze me, Art. I still can't get over seeing the engine up close and personal at Classic Plastic. I'm glad to see this back, too, and look forward to more. Charlie Larkin
  4. At this juncture... The exhaust is in (what a pain to put that on! The locating pins were almost useless, and I couldn't get them to attach to much of anything firmly...) The chassis is now assembled saved for the tires, steering shaft and the shocks, one of which has gone missing. I've already sent a replacement request to Revell. As I'll be moving in about 2-2&1/2 weeks, progress may be a little slow for a while. As I'll also be setting up shop at my parents for the time being, progress might also be almost non-existent for about a month until I can get fully settled in, but I'll do what I can. Charlie Larkin
  5. Although I've never attempted to tint windows, I've been told that Tamyia smoke is a good choice, too. For some older cars where the tinted windows have that bluish or green cast, Tamyia also makes transparent blue and green in brush-on paint. I'd recommend airbrushing, though, for the best appearance. Charlie Larkin
  6. Uh....fact check. American Motors was its own company from 1954 to 1988, when Chrysler bought it. AMC did, however, purchase TorqueFlite automatic transmissions and some other components from Chrysler during the 1970s and 1980s. Charlie Larkin
  7. HOORAY! Send pictures to Ford! This WILL sell big! Charlie Larkin
  8. Another car I'd like to see in 1:1. They ought to call it the Nomad. Charlie Larkin
  9. The engine is now attached to the chassis, and the wheel/tire assemblies are now together. For the first time in probably pushing twenty years, I did some deacling, specifically the redlines on the tires. Those unbranded, bald-sided blackwalls Revell give us look awful, and absolutely needed something on them to make them passable. The decals curled and twisted and were very hard to get on, but they got placed and are now drying. Probably stupidly, I applied the decals after applying the tires. I'll probably hit the tires with some acrylic flat clear after, Does anyone know if decal set can be used on tires safely? I'd like to try and get the film dissolved. Charlie Larkin
  10. Money's tight right now, but I think I'll probably get one after my income tax refund comes in. Charlie Larkin
  11. My suspicion is that Krylon is enamel, which would cause the problems you're describing. However, I do know of people who've used Krylon primer under Dupli-Color and haven't had any issues. I also know of people who use inexpensive and store-brand primers and have good results with Dupli-Color and Plasti-Kote paints, as well as other automotive paints. As always, try a little on some scrap before any big projects. Charlie Larkin
  12. Second the motion! Absolutely fantastic! Charlie Larkin
  13. Very nicely-done mild custom. Looks great! Charlie Larkin
  14. Interesting; you don't see too many Tri-5s like this; yours looks good. Acetate will probably be the best choice for the windows for this. Charlie Larkin
  15. The engine is about 99% done. I'll put the oil filler neck on after it's in place so I don't brake it. The Pontiac Engine Blue dried very nicely. The aluminum on the transmission is still a little tacky, but it could be handled. I also ran some aluminum over a few chromed parts that are aluminum, like the fan clutch and alternator housing. Charlie Larkin
  16. I like it. Too bad Chrysler didn't opt to do a real 300 coupe; it would look good as one. I'll watch with interest. Charlie Larkin
  17. Don't forget six months in jail. Charlie Larkin
  18. Actually, Art, if you want real fun in this neck of the woods, try Fall River, which is all hills (New Bedford is pretty flat, at least by comparison.) The backroads of Dartmouth and Westport after a snowfall can be pure joy, too. But very pretty. If driving isn't too bad, I might go load my FD (my only properly-functioning camera at the moment) and go shoot off a roll of film around the countryside. When I finally got in tonight (I had a very strange, roundy-round drive home because of another errand I had to run,) I could only park on the hydrant-side of the street. Tomorrow, I'm going to try to move over when a spot opens up. New Bedford requires you park on the street side with no fire hydrant if there's more than about four or five inches of snow. The good news? The snow won't start until late tomorrow night, so that buys me some time. I'll be moving back towards home in about a month, and my first stop will be my folks until I can get re-situated with work, money and everything else. I can honestly say I'm not going to miss on-street parking. Charlie Larkin
  19. Neat idea, Nick. I like it. Charlie Larkin
  20. Ryan...were you terrorizing our dear friends on County St.?? I've been called three times. Excused first...was moving the second and excused for a change in juridiction. Got impaneled in June for an assault trial. Ryan and I live in the same district court jurisdiction (and not too far away from each other,) so we had similar experiences probably. Massachusetts uses a one-day/one-trial system, so you're either done by noontime or on a trial and excused for three years after. Charlie Larkin
  21. And the answer for our region...we don't know yet! We woke up a couple mornings ago to a surprise dusting that mostly blew way. No big deal. The storm hitting the DelMarVa Penninsula is winding its way up the Atlantic. Depending on how it hits, everything west of Cape Cod will get anywhere from a few inches (like 3-4") or two feet. It'll all depend on the wind currents. In the meantime, once I'm home tonight, to ensure there are few problems, I'm parking on the correct side of the street (I just LOVE on-street parking) and will do everything possible to avoid moving the car to be on the safe side for the next couple of days. Charlie Larkin
  22. The primary engine assembly on the GTO is now painted. I've also painted all the sub-assemblies, and once the paint completely dries tomorrow, my goal is to have the engine assembled and in-place tomorrow evening, with completion of the chassis following. Charlie Larkin
  23. Very cool build. I wish 1/25 scenery wasn't so expensive, I can think of a lot of things I'd like to do with some trees, shrubs, etc. for dioramas and scenes. Charlie Larkin
  24. Neat project. Charlie Larkin
  25. One jar of Model Master Pontiac Engine Blue enamel. One can of Model Master Hondouras Maroon lacquer. I'm looking forward to trying that paint, as I've heard nothing but rave reviews of it. I'm toying with trying it on my '61 Special wagon, as Hondouras Maroon= Rio Red. Charlie Larkin Suggestion for Harry or Gregg: how about pinning this topic to keep it easy to find? Charlie Larkin
