AMT 34 Ford Ratty Pickup
plumnuts replied to LO51 MERC's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
very nice build. does making your own instructions make it easy to build? looks great and looking forward to your 09 build. -
you know I often wounder that same thing, but then again it would be a very scary place to get into the minds of some of the guys heads aroud here. I know I wouldent want to go there.

hay dude, scratch building is hard enough when you have the supplies! it's crazy hard if you are trying to find stuff to make the stuff your trying to make. anyway, revell has the prosportsman kits out(1955 & 1957) chevys, but the floor pans are great for your situation and the parts left over ary fantastic for the parts box. I saw alot of them at my local K MART . and hobby lobbie will have em.
-
man that is cool. the casters look great, well the whole thing looks great ,but the casters are a great detail note. I'm gonna have to build me one of those.

HAY HAY HAY, IT'S FAT CHEVY.AND GOT SOME NEW PICS FOR YOU. mock up is almost there , want to open the doors, but want to use the exterior hinges so I'll come at that one with caution. also think I'm gone cut the hood skirts off and mold to the fenders and just hinge the hood. I'm also thinking the headlights have to go and get some roundies in the front a little lower on the fenders. anyway heres the pics sorry about the lighting I need a new bulb for the light. but you can still get the idea of the look.

OH DAVE YOU'V DONE IT AGAIN! you have gone and made another masterpiece. I was woundering, do you ever get tired of being so darn good? looks outstaning as always.... mike

decided to take pic of the body the chasis came from to clear up any questions. would recommend the kit for the thing WAS really nice. dont know the year or box art, can't even say if its a revell or not, but most likley is due to the fact I tend to stay away from amt kits (personal preference) . hope this helps anyone interested. As for paint- Im thinking of the testors laquer (firery orange). I have a few red models and there is a very nice 41 on this site that was done in bright yellow , another very nice one done in metallic green , and of cource the VERY nice metallic gray one that Randy posted for me on this thread. Yes guys I went and did some research on this one. took a tip from the legend Treehugger Dave and planned this one out a little. that way I don't run into as many problems later in the build. I will do as mutch mock up as possable, THEN come in with the saw and go to town!

I would like to say she's almost done ,but I'd be telling a fib. honestly I just burnt out on it, and didn't have the patiants when some thing went wrong. and it seemed like everything went wrong. the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to scrap it. so way gone mustang has been put in the box and set aside for another day.
-
the chasis was under a panel wagon that was a woody, around 1938 I think. was a nice kit ,but the dust had killed the paint so tada the 41 has up to date running gear.
-
hi LoneWolf. I have used testors enamels in the past, to be honest that is all I used in the past. I have been spraying tamiya paint lateley cause it lays out so mutch smoother. I am still a rattle can baby, hopeing to move to air brush soon. why, what color are you thinking?

got burn't out on the new era stuff , so way gone mustang went into the box for a later day. one of my older models hit the chopping block and donated it's chasis, tore it down and cleaned it up, wired the motor and slid some new wheels on. I'm really enjoying the build and hopeing to stay steady on this and try not to rush . been thinking about a section on the body and chopping the top,but after mock up It's looking pretty good to me. might open the doors and pancake the hood. its all in the air at the moment. input is welcome and wanted. enjoy the pics. can't put my fingure on a color yet. I want it to stand out with class. would love some suggestions.
-
ran into some problems with the body work so moved on to chasis. next will be the upholstery, that should be a head scratcher.
-
this is a thing of beauty! stance, lines, paint, wheels. it all flows. great work!

just wanted to jump in on the banwagon and say NICE WORK. I'll go with the two trucks as my favs. keep em coming.
-
thanks bro ,just had to step back a little so it didn't hit the wall. looking forward to the thunderpannel, let me know if I can help with anything.
-
just a question about your kit. the body to the fenders, do thay fit right? this is the kit I built my coupster from and that fit was the hardest thing to fix and just woundered if it was just the kit I got.
-
hello everybody. finaly got somthing that resembles glass in the back. I'll let you see for yourself. It's not what I had visioned in my head but for now it will have to do. thanks again for looking.
-
personaly I think I would get the cover formed. draw the lines on tunnel with pencel. scribe lines in with my saw for guide lines and then take a v'ed needle file to work out the rolled effect.
-
I understand the whole bunt out thing. started building two at a time. one custom chop er up and modify, the other mostley stock relax type. jump back and forth and seems to help with the don't want to build syndrom. very clean work and definatly my kind of build.
-
pete this thing is looking wild. the roof and doors show you are a true craftsman. I get a kick out of the style of the custom guys of that era. thay must of had some fun nights sitting around the garage all night stairing at these cars comming up with these ideas of what to do with it.....

for the guys that suggested a pinstrip you were right, thank for the guys that gave me tips on the pinstripe tape. went online to buy some pinstripe tape till I saw the price . so I came up with somthing else and it was free. I went to a sign shop and spoke with the guy and he gave me a box of his scraps. layed it on the bench with a ruler and ran a razor down it and made this pinstripe.

it's a shame to hear that about the parts missing. alot of us can relate though. some have kids that like to play, and others who have cats that steal. would recommend building the silverado street truck though. the kit fit super nice for me.
-
WOW GUYS the helping hands on this site never end to amaze me. so I have taken a little here and a little more there and have somthing in the hole anyway. first attemt would have been super cool ,but it broke in half. it had defroster lines in it. second attempt seems to be close ,but has some small gaps in the corners that I don't like. ended up flatening the back a little (thanks dave for the styling tip) and you will be glad to know" LOWAGON "is still in one piece. I may have to downsize the glass a little and build a thin frame to fill gaps. over all a royal pain ,but when its painted and I flip that back open it will be worth it Thanks again for the offer of giving up a back window unforgiven . let me know if I could help you somtime. the parts box is small ,but your welcome to anything in it.

I would say that if you have been doing models for a few months your doing great work and keep it up. the only other thing I saw besides the shaker hood is I would have tryed to lay a little color on the springs of the racer. ,but all in all super clean. HECK I STILL DONT DO SEAT BELTS. (MAYBY i SHOULD START.)
-
na. the glass is to flat. looked at some magnum builds and found tha rear is more of a 45 to 45 degree, where my creation is more of a half circle. thanks though.
