History of Monogram's GM F-Body Alston Pro/Stock Chassis
Force replied to Fabrux's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
It pretty much sums it up. I have most of these kits bought when they were new and have followed the changes for the different versions over the years. The first versions wasn't that bad but the latest versions has some issues with fitment and stance, and as you say the latest Reher & Morrison and Frank Iaconio versions are a mishmash of all previous versions and not at all like the originals from 1984. The Monogram Thunderbird Pro Stock kits initially issued 1984 didn't have the same evolution as the Camaro/Firebird Pro Stock kits. There were only two basic versions of them, the 1984 version of Bob Glidden's and Rickie Smith's cars and it was reissued 1986 as Frank Iaconio's car and a Pro Street version called "Red Hot". This tooling was later changed to a later Bob Glidden car with a 1987 body and Motorcraft sponsor in 1988, but basically the same chassis and drive train, this kit was reissued again under the Revell name in 2013, to my knowledge unchanged. There is a Pro Street version of a late 80's Thunderbird in 1990, the Matt and Debbie Hayes car, but that tooling has no relation to the Pro Stock kits. -
Nascar Dry Sump Oil System
Force replied to gks1964's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here is a couple of pictures of the Ford FE dry sump system used in the GT40 Mk II and Mk IV, it's different from the Boss 429 setup as the pump is driven internally inside the special aluminum front cover, the rest of the oil pan is magnesium. This is the GT40 Mk II but the later Mk IIB had the oil reservoir at the rear of the car instead of at the front, the scavenge pump in this picture is wrong as that's where the oil filter normally goes, the in and outlets from the pump can be seen at the bottom of the front cover in the pictures above. -
302 cui is close to 5.0 litres (4.9489 to be fairly exact) so yes it's the 5.0 from 1982-2001 and it belongs to the Windsor 90 degree V8 family wich also includes the 221-260-289 and 302 and the older engines are very similar with some small differences to the later 5.0 versions. The 351 Windsor is also from the same family but as Dave said it's slightly taller and wider and the only things interchangeable with the smaller displacement engines are the heads, camshaft (different firing order tho') and some other things like oil pump, fuel pump and so forth, the crank can't be used in the smaller versions as the main bearings are wider in the 351. The 351 has the same 4.00" bore as the 289 and 302 and the crank has 3.50" stroke, the 289 has 2.87" and the 302 has 3.00" even so if you could put a 351 crank in a 302 you would get a 347 cui engine, but it doesn't work as I said so the 347 stroker kits available for the 302 takes care of that in other ways with a .040" overbore and a 3.40" crank. For did a couple more 5 litre engines, the Boss 302 from 1969-70 wich is a Windsor 302 with Cleveland style heads and the 5.0 Coyote based on the 2-3 and 4 valve Modular engines from 1991-forward and the new Boss 302 wich also is a Coyote.

Force replied to The Junkman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm also a subscriber and as I understand it from the emails I've got from them (wich is a couple a week) the delay is mostly because of the Covid19 and all shutdowns. -

67/68 Shelby KR 500 decals in blue???
Force replied to 2zwudz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Just for information, GT500KR is 1968 only and the KR was to designate the 428 Cobra Jet engine and stood for King of the Road...so putting these stripes on a 1967 is not right. -
Most likley as I have the same pictures, I found them the same way some time ago...but I don't remeber where.

The original Can-Do version also had an underlift (or wheel lift if you want to call it that) , the rotator boom is resting on it on the first picture, but it looks like the rebuilt truck is updated with a beefier underlift. Otherwise it looks like the Challenger rotator and wrecker body is the same. Original version. Rebuilt version.

Late Camaro LS into Revell 57 Chevy ?
Force replied to 57peppershaker's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Side mount conversion kits for 55-57 Chevys are available...for real cars that is. The 55-57 has two engine mounts at the front and two at the back of the bell housing, no transmission mount or cross member under the transmission so it hangs free. The conversion kits available includes side engine mounts and a cross member with a transmission mount that bolts to the frame so you can put more modern engines and transmissions in the car, the rear bell housing side mounts on the frame can be cut off as they are not needed with this setup. -

Late Camaro LS into Revell 57 Chevy ?

It should be like any other engine swap, it's just a matter of testing and trying and see how it fits. -

Interesting, this I will follow. -
Yes it's the same kit as the Italeri and Revell reboxed several Italeri kits. Italeri tooled up two basic chassis and drive trains for the US kits and they were in all US truck kits they did, the one originally in the Peterbilts and the other originally in the Freightliner FLC, all their Peterbilts has the same stuff and most of the other US kits they did has the Freightliner stuff together with some retooled parts in some of them, so they can be slightly different but the base is the same. The exception is the Volvo VN wich is totally different and has no engine as Philippe said.

Nice job. It looks like you and Codi have a little milling competition here. -
Very nice.

It looks like it's quite common to change to the Peterbilt Air Leaf. Regarding the Movin' On truck, Paul sold it some time ago and the new owner (user name Sundance on the ATHS forum) is restoring the truck with a Cummins VT903 and a torsion bar setup the truck originally had. http://forums.aths.org/140735/The-REAL-Movin-On-Kenworth-W-900s
