I picked up 2 of these in Birmingham a few weeks ago with the intentions of building a cool vintage show rod. Well once I got them apart it was obvious they needed alot of missing parts and lots where destroyed by glue. Never fear its only plastic. I cut the back half of the body off the body that broke during disassembly. I added it to the body that was in better shape. Removed the rear fender flairs and saved them for reattachment purposes. I need to add some sheet stock to fill in the quarters and create the rear filler panel. Neither frame is salvagable but Both compbined will make a good pattern. Ill be tackling the rest of the roof work then on to the frame. Really want to see this one done fairly quick as I think its different enough to stand out. Here is a few pics of current progress and you can see one of dads on my bench as I need to finish opening the doors.

Thanks guys. I still think it needs a different wheel on it though.

This was a exercise in some basic skill building while seeing what kind of results I can get out of my airbrush. Paint is 2 stage with dupli color clear. I started with a silver base and laid out an emerald green foloowed by a light met blue then 2 different purples faded on the panel lines. When I added the pearl coat it hid some of my fade work. Still came out great just lost some of the art under it. Vette wheels lowered the suspension about an 1/8th in also. Let me hear those opinions.

gto doors in stripped mode.
Jason Vandergriff replied to Blake Rogers's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
That makes it even easier. Just scribe out the panel with the back side of a 11 blade. Once you have that done make your template for your door frame on new sheet stock. Find a reference pic of the inner frame and replicate it on the panel you traced out a min ago. cut sand file to finish and for the real detail nut this can be layered to get the lip that some of the inner doors have. -
Dads insanity at work years ago even has some more stuff that goes with this model for a diorama.

What kind of music.....
Jason Vandergriff replied to Hot_Rod_Bob's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ive got 120 gig of music on my desktop. Mostly rock from 60s on all Floyd and Zeppelin stuff along with some modern rock to fill a much needed void. I have a radio hidden under the desk that stays on the local classic rock station. My tv is my new monitor and I could care less about cable even though all i need to do is hook it up and i would have tv. Dad listens to country while he builds on the kitchen table but yet his current project is on my keyboard right now. -
thats neat and a great start.

Looking great. I like what you did with the front fenders and hood. Ive built 2 neither out of the box and both had opening doors. The lastest of which is my avatar.

Dad finished this up on friday and we headed out to Birmingham sat morning. He won a top 15 award. Paint is nail polish over a silver base. Farme is reworked 41 willys unit 90% of the interior is scratch built. Photoetch guages swiveling seats and wired and plumbed and a tinted glass all around. Any questions ask and feel free to comment.

Well after a needed break I jumped back on this one. Redid the lower windshield area from where i swapped the roof built the rear and finalized the wheels. Prob gonna keep it kind of simple in order to finish it for Birmingham. Rotors will be a kit rotor cleaned up. Motor will be coming from a amt Nascar t-bird. -

Body Filler
Jason Vandergriff replied to j_in_larryville's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Brush a light coat of liquid cement around the grove that shows through the top. after you fill the bottom. What this does is erases the plastics memory preventing it from showing up after paint. I apologize for not be clear in my last post.
