  1. I like it too! The detail painting on the firewall is about as good as I've ever seen.
  2. Thanks for your input guys, very much appreciated. Robin, I'll check out the idea of a 200mm, specially as Len agrees, but my research so far has pointed me in the other direction, ie 50mm or macro so I'm a bit confused. (BTW your written english is better than most natives.) The photos I've posted here so far were all done at around F22 or smaller and at a distance of 25-30cm. I use a light box and think my lighting is OK, I just need sharper images. Here is are a couple of typical shots from my latest post. I may have got too close on this interior shot... I'm reasonably happy with this one (below) but prepared to invest in a new lens if it helps me get sharper images
  3. Steve, I bought a 60 Imperial convertible (plus a 62) off ebay only last month. They're both painted and assembled but in otherwise reasonable condition. I also have an original 58 plus the 59 kit and a 68 promo - I love Imperials. I would tend towards the seat - less work than the trim - but John is probably right, if you have a 61 as well. Either way I'm looking forward to progress.
  4. Another beautiful replica, Steve! Outstanding workmanship throughout.
  5. Focus isn't sharp enough with the 400D's kit lens (18-55mm) and I'm looking to by a not-too-expensive, dedicated lens for model car photography. Any suggestions?
  6. Very nice looking model.
  7. Not my sort of car but so beautifully painted and cleanly built I have to say WOW!
  8. Very fine replicas both - and refreshingly different. I have the 1:18 Borgward coupe from Revell and I like it a lot but its finish doesn't compete with these two.
  9. Looks really great - top notch clean and precise work throughout.
  10. This is the Olds that came back from the dead. From basket case to wonderful model - that takes talent and perseverance.
  11. Another knock-out interior, Steve.
  12. Fabulous replica, I would hardly have recognised this as the Airfix kit. Beautifully detailed and the wire wheels are perfect.
  13. Thanks for your tips Charlie and Steve. I have a selection of Scale Motorsports patterns (and some carbon fiber decals, which also work well). I won't attempt to replicate the pattern - I'm a near-enough-is-good-enough modeler and I'll come up with something satisfying. Steve, I think the way you've done the pattern on your Dodge is simply beyond my ability - probably the finest interior I've ever seen on a Johan model. Meanwhile I'm giving the Chrysler priority as it's closest to completion.
  14. Thanks for the compliment. It's all BMF - the inserts on the roof were done with Matte Aluminium, although I now think they were just chrome on the real car. Johan got the fluting in the side molding spot on, so it's just a matter of taking the time to burnish down thoroughly. I start with a Q-Tip and and get into crevices with a custom-made set of different shaped (and smoothed) toothpicks.
  15. Thanks everybody - I'm encouraged by your comments to overcome my modeler's block. (It's not really a block, it's just my guitars taking the upper hand again, which I'm quite happy to let them do.) Bruce, I mixed the DeSoto colour myself using Sikkens automotive paints and it's a bit greener than the actual metallic light blue that DeSoto offered. Steve, I absolutely love your DeSoto (and everything else you've posted) and I'm also flattered that you like the look of mine so far. Like I said, the interior will be a challenge - it would be so much easier if only the walls were seperate pieces. And Johann, thanks for the tip - I'll check out the Tamron.
  16. Although not much into dragsters, I've always liked the look of this one and you did a particularly fine job on it.
  17. Really nice job on this, looks fantastic. I have this too (street version) and I agree, it's a great kit
  18. Very nice model and I LOVE that colour.
  19. No, but I used to able to drink beer till the cows come home. (And what is this "photoshop"?)
  20. I haven't finished anything since last October and progress on these two Johans has been slow, even by my standards. I'm putting them up here in the hope that it will get me moving again. First up is the DeSoto. It will be curbside but I spent some time lowering the interior floor - slight improvement. I now have to paint the interior, a daunting task (unless you're Steve Guthmiller!). The wire wheels are from the AMT 62 T/Bird and were very kindly donated by "my80malibu" - I owe you one Gabriel. Thanks Carl (Slusher) too, who offered to do the same. Next is the 62 Chrysler 300H. It's pretty close to completion, just needs to be assembled and the engine bay detailed. I didn't lower the floor on this one, it's not really worth the effort. The molded in distributor was removed and replaced with one from Morgan Automotive Detail. The tyre in both photos is from the AMT Parts Pack but the Chrysler should really have thin-walls - can't decide. Next thing I need is a better lens for my EOS Canon 400D . Thinking of the 60mm 2.8 macro - does anybody here use that lens?
  21. Thanks guys. This isn't proof of any photographic skill BTW: I just turned the camera on (Canon EOS 400D), set it to landscape and poked it out the window. The rainbow was actually more spectacular than it looks here. Harry, no, I live in one of Winterthur's (pop. 100,000) outlying villages, right next to a farm. The photo is taken looking east but there are houses on the other three sides. Here's the other end of the same rainbow, taken from a southern window of the same room. Pretty fuzzy, unfortunately...
  22. Taken from my living room window last Sunday, facing east at sunset. (Near Winterthur in the north-east of Switzerland.)
  23. I agree with the others - very nice model and great photos.
