How do you display your builds
Dragline replied to kobuzz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Geez Gary, that case is chock full o great cars and awards. I have no place to put mine so they go back in their boxes and I break out another. I have a case in mind, but they are so bloody expensive I may end up making it. I wouldn't say I have Norm Abram skills, but I know my way around a table saw and router table. Perhaps someday. Bob -
Back into the hobby.

Welcome friend. I like your avatar and your model. Keep hanging out and eventually it will feel like home. Happened to me. Bob -
1969 camaro street/strip machine......off to the paint booth!!
Dragline replied to Jeff Sauber's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I have NO IDEA how I missed this build J. I must say, it is a beauty. I like those MCG detail sets too. They just add that next dimension that paint detailing or scratch building cannot really achieve. I can't wait to see the paint and the home stretch. Great work buddy. Bob -
This is looking way tough dude. I'm watching this one all the way. Shame about the silvers though. I was liking those, but this color is also very nice. Win, Win if you ask me. Bob

Got my wire wheels installed. For a first time outing I am pleased. I still need the nosepiece I lost. I still have to attatch the throttle from the framerail to the throttle pivot and then connect it to the fuel block. My eyes are getting a break tonight though. I need to get an airbrush pretty soon though. I need to learn how to Alclad. These wheels would look better than with the Metalizer I sprayed on em. Either that or I'm going to start sending parts out to be rechromed. Still not done, but it may never be....... NOT without that nosepiece, that's for certain... Bob

I can't believe it's taken me all this time to write something about your car Lyle. My MAMA mentor sure built a great one here guys. I love the take off shot. MAMA strikes again! Bob

I'm the first to post!! HAHAHA AWESOME CAR ROMELL. Whats' next? That is the question. Bob

Why exactly do you post?
Dragline replied to bigmikevee's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I like to trade ideas with others. I like to see my stuff up in lights. I like to sleaze ideas off others since I have no original ideas of my own. I like to know what others think about the alone time I spend with plastic little thingies and low lights. I like to build for MYSELF first and foremost. I then send it out into the ether where it is picked up by aliens and laughed at on other worlds besides this one. Seriously? I like the Community it gives me. I have no one else to share these with, with anyone I'm close to. They kinda get it, I guess but it's lost on them for the most part. So you guys have to bear the wreckage I call my model cars. A small price to pay I'd say. At least you don't have to deal with me on a more personal, face to face type level. You've been spared that much. Bob -
CrazyFrigginRidonculouslyNice John...... Once again, the Master strikes. Bob

With your skills Shane I've no doubt they will be better than mine. I was intimidated at first, but then I thought, "why the heck am I worried?". Then, by the second one I was in a groove. I finished them today and as soon as they are dry I will hit em with Metalizer. The hubs are the key to the whole process I'll say that. Making sure it's centered is also very key. The rims should be free of blemishes and smooth as well. I dry fit em into the tires [plastic kit ones at that!], and they look real good. I used .015 when they recommend .010. Even still [all I had on hand], they look WAAAAAY better than the kit supplied wheels. Plus, they have wiggle room and can be tweaked as needed. For my first attempt I'm pleased. You will be as well bro. Go get em buddy. Bob

Thank you kind sir. That is the finest compliment I have EVER received ever for any model I have ever built. I have put my heart and soul into this car and the journey has been fun. This is the first build I ever posted here all that time ago and it seem like I've been working on it for a long time. But, it nears completion. Except, I lost the completed nose piece! LOLOL Don't that beat all? Thanks again. Bob

Christian, that was very harsh. I have been known to have an elephants skin and your tirade back there would have made even me pause. I normally don't give a flip about what others think. I post what i want and all and sundry are welcomed to pick it apart. I recall one time I did get worked up at Harry for my funny car post but that's been the extent of it. You sir, were harsh. truthful to be sure. But tactful, certainly not. But if it's any consolation, I did get a few gigles. It was like watching a car wreck in slo mo. Bob

So, I've said in the past that I wanted to try my hand at making a set of wire wheels for this build. Well, I'm at it tonight. I got the instructions from Straighlinemodeler.org and the link is here.. http://www.straightlinemodeler.org/wirewheels.htm I am using the kit rims and wheel centers but thinnned down the flanges with sandpaper and made the hubs from K&S aluminum tubing. Here we see I've started to make the first pass. These are the hubs and flanges. Second pass. I used Plastruct for the spokes. I made this one tonight and for the next three night I'll make another till I have the four I need. Models are fun. Bob

I watched this from the beginning and have just been in total admiration of your attention to detail Rommell. Cannot wait to see it "Under Glass" Every phase was enjoyable and I used your plastic bag idea for my belt set [i bought the same one]. Unfortunately, you cannot glue the plastic bag with CA. It simply dosen't stick [for me at any rate]. Great build bro. Bob

Welcome to the forums and NICE BUILDS. You have a clean style that's very popular around here. Some of the boyz are running to their projects right now to do a chin check. LOL Hope to see more. Bob

Very purdy indeed.... I always loved f-birds. Good to see one that is NOT dark green for once. Great color choice and execution. Bob

<BUMP> Looks like this project will stall a bit till I get some Pro Tech line coming in. I have almost enough fittings but the generic line I have doesn't fit. It came in 5 sizes and they are all to small or to big. So I have to wait till I get some dough for some of that Pro tech stuff. It looks so good and I've been meaning to get some so now I'll have to. But I figured I'd bump this thread and take a few shots with the body on. I also finished the chutes so I snapped one of them. Till I get some Pro Tech braid!!!!! Bob

Stellings and Hampshire C&T F/E dragster
Dragline replied to Fuel Coupe's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
OMG Shane! I missed so much of this I hadda read all before I could comment. The axle looks great and so do the headers. This is really coming along quite nicely. I'm really stoked to see you put your talents to work on a project like this. You got the goods kiddo... Bob -
WIP.....69 Daytona Pro Mod..Updated 10/28/10
Dragline replied to 1320wayne's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Wayne, this is looking OUTSTANDING buddy. Any more progress on the chassis and motor? I LOVE this build.. Trade ya for one of mine!! Bob -
This is undoubtably the finest modeling I have ever seen and I have seen my share. This stuff is beyond reproach and it is clear there was a master at work. All the details are just right and the wear and tear make me blind. I just spent the better part of 2 hours looking at the Doan shop and all the rest and I repeatedly had to go back to reference other shots. Not a thing out of place. STUNNING IN EVERY WAY. We all have much to learn looking at this Masterwork. I've never seen its like in all my life. Bob

Flat or Satin Black Stripes/Graphics with Glossy Paint?
Dragline replied to Nate's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
As you said. Paint the stripes after all the clear coating and painting is done. Bob -
I try to offer "constructive" critisism in a positive manner always. I can only remember one time I did not use tact in a post about a model. I was wrong for doing so and apologized [via PM]. But my comments were there for all to see and it was embarrassing for me personally. This is not like me at all. If the conversation has been established and a flaw that has not been mentioned that is bugging me I may indeed try to help the poster. I have even gone so far as a mini tutorial as a way of helping. But mostly, I don't post anything at all and hope the modeler in question looks at other builds on this site on their own, and sees what can be accomplished with patience, tools, and a yearning to up their own personal ante. I try not to praise mediocrity, it does send the wrong message. Bob

Welcome back Anthony. If you like Drag Racing [and who doesn't?] this is your place budddy. There is the usual cast of characters that haunt the Drag Racing area here. You'll get to know us all I'm certain. Welcome back to the hobby and wait till ya see what happened while you were gone. Bob

Finally got the port injection completed. Looks like I'll have to tweak a few to look crisper and straighter but that's the easy part. It looks like I tweaked a couple of the hat lines but I'll get those as well. For the most part it's done.......... [wipes brow] I'm currently working on the barrel valve and if I like that throttle bracket or not. It's a standard bracket used for many years but it may be a tad thick so I may spend some time thinning it down a bit. The barrel valve is done, and it is the best one I ever made. Next up is braided lines for the fuel. I also have to finish the oil system but the filters are drying and since they have enamel on them it'll take another day before I can get to them. Thanks for watching. Bob

Looking killer John! Another epic build buddy. SkillZZZZZZZZ Bob
