1/24 Revell '70 Plymouth Superbird
Rob Hall replied to Mr. Moparman's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
That was the Daytona..the Superbird was never offered as a Pro Modeler version.. Yeah, I have the Petty version..got it new as a kid in '80s. I don't have the Sox & Martin version. -
1/24 Revell '70 Plymouth Superbird

More than that..the Johan kit I have has the race interior (roll cage, race seat, dash, steering wheel, etc) racing gas tank, window bars, and race Hemi (single carb) engine...as far as wheels, it had the '70 style Mopar rally wheels and deep NASCAR style racing wheels. No mag wheels. The Revell/Monogram kit definitely has the big advantage of being easily available and cheap. -
1/24 Revell '70 Plymouth Superbird

The problem w/ doing a race version from the Monogram I would think is that the kit didn't include any race parts...would have to source those from somewhere else... -
1/24 Revell '70 Plymouth Superbird
Rob Hall replied to Mr. Moparman's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Supposed to be coming in July.. I built the first issue molded in blue back in the '80s...nice kit, typical '80s 1:24th Monogram. I built a Johan Superbird back then also, it's the best kit to start with to build a race Superbird (has all the race parts) but is lacking the vinyl top to do a correct street version. ???? The kit has 65 parts total. Typical '80s Monogram kit. -
I don't actually have it yet, but got an email yesterday that it shipped from the OLD where I preordered it Hopefully have it next week. On the SA forums someone posted pics of the new parts--the big wheels and tires, bucket seats and console, different front bumper and the decal sheet. Since it's a 2n1, I would assume at least the hubcap wheel option is there (are '62 SS hubcaps different than regular Impala ones?)

Neat body style...reminds me of the Revell Model A Cabriolet body style. Does this work w/ the Revell or AMT '32s?

Cool...I got to the see the 1:1 in person..I think I saw it on the track w/ the Marmon Wasp...or in the museum...as much fun as the race and the museum were, a real treat was Sunday morning a few hours before the race--I was able to walk out on the track and watch the vintage race cars be rolled out and lined up and fired up alongside the track for the lap they later did..(I couldn't take my eyes off the Jim Clark Lotus, but did notice the Marmon Wasp and other vintage cars).

Not sure either..I think he needs a spell checker, though.

Where else could they put it? Chevy has plenty of models, Pontiac, Olds and Saturn are gone...Buick is where the Opels go for NA....

Fish in the model room

No fish or cats, but I do have terriers...they like sleeping on the floor when I'm in my hobby room. -
Mopar Steel Wheel Question
Rob Hall replied to dannyi's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No idea...I can't imagine using a '50s Chevy wheel on Mopars..for the '67-72 Mopars w/ steelies and DDs builds I have planned, I use Revell '68 Charger steelies and resin copies of them I've bought, along with Missing Link Resin Dodge or Plymouth DDs. For a couple cars that I want wider rear wheels on, I've got the wide wheels from the '78 Monaco police car kit. -
And this is the cheapened '11 Passat for NA, built in Tennessee... Of the current US market VWs, about the only ones I like are the Golf GTI and the CC...
-
Actually, the current A4 shares nothing other than engines w/ the Passat..the Passat has a transverse engine and FWD, while the A4 has a longitudinal engine w/ AWD. (Past generations of the Passat shared platforms w/ Audis, though, like the first generation (Dasher in the US), 2nd generation (Quantum in US) and 4th generation from about 10 years ago)

Mopar Steel Wheel Question
Rob Hall replied to dannyi's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
For resin tires, Scale Equipment Ltd has a good selection of '70s style white letter tires.. -
Yeah, they seriously cheapened the new Jetta and the new Passat. I don't think there is much of a market in the US for such vehicles.
-
That would be daft..I think he meant a new car in the spirit of the old Beetle..i.e. cheap and minimalist...which is where the VW Up! will fit... I have no interest in cheap, stripped down cars but internationally there is a market for them...Renault's Dacia Logan, the Tata Nano, etc
-
I kind of like the look of the GT-R, they look much better in person than in photos, IMO...there is a dark gray one I see frequently at my favorite coffee shop...in the early morning light they look really distinctive and mean..
-
Well, the New Beetle was kind of a mildly 'upscale' trendy small car, as is the New Mini and the New New Beetle...there are plenty of other cars that fullfill the cheap basic subcompact niche (Honda Fit, Chevy Sonic, Ford Fiesta, Hyundai Accent, etc)..
-
VW is doing it for the upcoming Up! city car..
-
VW is going to be doing a cheap minimalist rear engined car soon...the production version of the Up!.
