-
How cool is this! Great job and a nice little story line as well.

Your creativity knows no bounds, Virgil. Lot's of nice touches to set these apart from the mainstream. Masterful paint work as well(of course).

Certainly one of your best, and one of the best old school diggers that I've seen. Excellent detail. The front wheels are beautiful. The variation of metal surfaces really looks nice. I'd be mighty proud to be the builder

Alright, you've officially gone over the edge... -
Sign me up as a judge; ya got my vote. Excellent trim work, Excellent paint, Excellent detail Excellent, Excellent, Excellent ! I was marvelling over a full size 53 last weekend. This one looks every bit as nice.

Nice attention to detail, however... There was a recent episode of Top Gear on TV that had a segment on Tanner Foust's Focus. They ran it through their timed course and comments were made about how surprisingly flat it cornered. Very flat attitude. Very fast. I think they posted the time up in the second slot on their board. Thought you'd want to know.

Man, I can't believe how easily you capture the look of period hot rods. You've nailed it again. The decals really make it. Totally custom, but not over done.

Chuck, is this the beginning of your post war phase? This is one slick machine. Totally unique as only you could do. I'd love to have my elbow hanging over the edge of the door. Nice ride.

From the king of one word (or smiley) responses, I feel like I just got six replies. Thanks Dan, and everyone for the nice comments.

the "NEW" Hudson, but you cant tell by looking at it
Alyn replied to Lanny Haas's topic in Model Cars
Great weathering. This is one of the coolest Hudson Hornets so far! -
not much of an update, as I've been focused on my 57 Chevy convertible lately. The intake is pretty much done. I also scratch built the distributor. I wired the one that came with the kit, but the red wire I picked for plug wires didn't look right, so It'll get used on something else. This distributor was build by gluing some 1/2 round rod around some larger round rod. Then holes where drilled for wires, and an aluminum tube was used for the shaft. It'll look just as good as the original once the cap is painted and the wires (clear) are glued in place. Between the scratch built fuel injection and distributor, there's almost 100 scratch built parts on the engine already, and it's not done yet. Anyway, I thought it looked so cool that I wanted to share. The valve covers and injector stacks are not glued down, so they may look slightly askew.

What a crusty colaboration. Looks great inside and out. The seats look really nice.

The enthusiastic comments are great, thanks. Mike, MIG welders are so easy to use, they can make anyone look good. Here's a better shot of the weld seam Dominik, this car is based on the Revell 57 Chevy 150 Black Widow kit. It's 1:25th scale.

Here's the front clip, a little rough, a lucky find none the less. you can see here where I had to weld in the front half of the drivers side fender Front clip set on the frame (not bolted down). We've had to push it around the shop quite a bit, so I found a milk crate to sit on.

AMT 34 Ford shop truck & trailer
Alyn replied to Jantrix's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I loved that trailer the first time I saw it, but with the junk, it's over the fence! Fantastic details and the overall look is very realistic. I really like the tool box with all the stickers, and the hub caps are a nice touch too. Ultra nice duo -
Thanks again for the great words of encouragement. I found a used front clip the other day and talked the guy out of it for under a $1,000.00. It's hard to find original steel these days. The drivers fender was in bad shape. A metal lamp post had fallen on it and crushed the area around the headlight. I already had one fender that was pretty rusty, but was able to cut out a piece and weld it onto the clip. It still needs paint and body work, but should look good once it's all in blue. Actually, I was rifling through the kit box and when I came across the clip I had cut off, I set it on the car for kicks. The off-color (white plastic) clip looked pretty cool on the car, so I decided to paint it up and have the option of displaying the car with or without the clip. The paint work is almost done, so I'll take a picture or two and post up a little later.

Thank you all for the great comments, especially Mike and Chuck. Your comments made my day! Jim, the door panels are easy. You just keep sanding off the upholstery panels until the underlying metal structure is revealed. Actually, I normally take lots of pics during a build to do a WIP, but on this one I was up against a deadline and didn't take hardly any. Building the door panels required a heavy reliance on good reference photos (the internet) and amount to nothing more than duplicating the weird cut-outs found on this sort of panel. Lots of various size small holes to drill as well. I shot the doors in primer and then airbrushed the blue around the edges. This left the center in primer. Johnny, I'm looking for a good steel front clip, then it'll be time to get this baby on the road. Virgil, anything to please EYEGORE Glad you all like it. This kind of build really gets the brain juices flowing.

Because of the excellent reference material available on-line, I wanted to build a 57 Chevy convertible. Because 1. I didn't have one, and 2. The Revell Black Widow is such a great kit, I decided to convert (no pun intended) it. I cut the top off, and reshaped the rear deck area to mimic the convertible body. Interior floor and dash were modified to show the bare structural look. The interior side panels and top frame are scratch built. Throw in a bit of engine detail and some weathering and you have budget build that just rolled out of the paint shop.

Alyn replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Gotta have some more flatheads. I love 'em so much four of my last five builds haven't had pushrods. Here they are in the order built (I think ) 29 Ford Pickup 40 Ford Coupe 29 Ford roadster 32 Ford sedan -
great eye for style! this is one cool combo
-
You can also try bonding a strip to the clear windshield in the appropriate location using clear parts cement, or judicious specs of epoxy.

Cool; looks like we have a few Pontiac fans around here. I got a few more details taken care of. The starter, oil filter and fuel pump are complete. Still working on the distributor, fan belt & pulleys and the headers, but they're mostly done. Here's a couple of update pics. The short stacks and valve covers are just sitting in place. Hopefully they're be straighter on final assembly. The plan is to go with chrome valve covers, but the more I mock it up with theses stock covers, the more I like it. With all the handling, some of the paint is already starting to rub off, some I'm gonna let the motor sit for a few days so the paint can harden up a bit more. In the meantime, the chassis and body can get some attention.
