  1. I'm trying to focus on your excellent detail work, but that blue is sucking my eyeballs out. Love it!!!
  2. I've been unable to get in gear on a new build lately, so I figured that starting a WIP would give me the incentive to get going. I haven't done a WIP in quite a while, and have only done one on MCM, so hear goes. I saw this AMT kit at the local hobby store a couple of days ago. Since I have 80 to 100 kits "on deck", I figured I needed another one. Glad I bought this one; looks to be excellent in the detail department. Although I am impressed with the detail and engineering (so far) of this kit, the build options seem to be limited. The race version looks cool, but there's going to a bunch of these built that way. The other half of "2 IN 1" is custom. Stock could be a nice model, but the kit wasn't really meant for that. I'm going with mild custom. There won't be much needed that's not already in the box. In fact, this would make a good choice for an out-of-box build. I won't be able to keep from adding plug wires, so out-of-box is probably not going to happen. The kit comes with some parts to lower the suspension, but that won;t likely get the car down where it needs to be, so some minor suspension tweaking mods will be in order. This is where I want to be. My official start to any kit is glueing the engine halfs together. The cool thing about this 421 is the interlocking ridges on each half rather than locating pins. This design seems to line things up better. I usually have to adjust and clamp engines together. This one falls right into place. One more thing; I can tell already that I'm gonna wish this was a bubble top.
  3. How about shiny black painted chassis and engine compartments. Even worse in my mind is the excessive use of silver on chassis components. Silver leaf springs, silver axle housings, silver steering links and sway bars. Even silver frame rails. All this is great info for a "Do's and Don'ts" FAQ, or "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly"
  4. Great looking model. Your abilities with Alclad are beyond compare, but those wheels are up another notch. The best example of mastering Alclad I've ever seen. Hood bracing could not look nicer. The dash alone could be on display. You've really have the knack for realism. ... and excellent grasp of artistic license. Please don't stop. thanks for sharing
  5. I'm with you Terry. It's amazing how many models have hoods that don't line up, or have a corner sticking up. Sometime it appears there's too much motor in there and the hood can no longer close .

    32 Ford's

and my only other 32; the Revell 32 Tudor Sedan kit built this year. Can't believe how old this thread is, but it's a good one. I just went through the whole thing. What a great bunch of 32's

    32 Ford's

Here's a Bonneville A/FR roadster I built from the AMT Boyd Coddington "American HotRod" kit. Other than the highly modified body, it's almost entirely scratch built.
  8. Talk about tone deaf After all the thankless effort by Stoneman, whale392, Wheelman, niteowl7710, khart and DoubleD to get your head right, you turn around and use white putty over gray primer. you'll never work in this town again, pal !
  9. yet another masterpiece in the making. toggle switches on the dash look great! ... as do all the other details.
  10. 10 seconds on Google will find tons of Acrylic Laquers as well. here's the only rats on my shelf
  11. From Bill Barker, one of the KCSlammers and heck of a nice guy; -This is the 20th Heartland Nationals in a row - 75 vendor tables! Man, you oughta bring some extra cash this weekend. - The 1:1 California Kid and the Back to the Future Delorean cars sitting right outside. - Our show-winning trophy is sponsored by none other than Mark Gustavson, a stalwart of our hobby and founder of our National Museum. - Scads of trophies and give-away stuff. - A world-class model show that just gets better and better each year! be there or be square
  12. Revell Roth Outlaw kit looks similar
  13. Here's a pic of McQueen's Ferrari from McQueens Machines. This is one of only ten 275 GTS/4 NART Spyders built. Of those ten, this and one other have aluminum bodywork. Good luck on reproducing a great looking car. FYI, seat upholstery in this car and many others owned by McQueen was done by Tony Nancy.
  14. I didn't click on the YouTube link, but having seen the commercial, I hate to think of the idiots that are going to go out on the salt flats and do doughnuts after seeing this. This is the second such commercial in recent times that flaunts reckless behavior on this fragile area. The salt flats is an awesome back drop to photograph a car, especially competition or period hot rods, but presenting it in this way is sick and irresponsible/ The salt layer is getting thinner every year. Over the last several years the Save The Salt group has invested considerable effort (and money) trying to do just that; save the salt. Considering the history and unique nature of the Bonneville Salt Flats, it should be protected as a state or national park My blood boils every time I see this or similar commercials.
  15. Simply stellar work Randy. Every update is a "highlight of the day".
  16. sounds like nothing more that market research to me. Commercial use of the forum without paying for advertising. Is that what this board is "all about"? cry me a river...
  17. In my seldom shared opinion; I don't subscribe to MCM, but I buy most issues that I run across at the local hobby shop. I buy it to see what kits are available. to see the cool ideas other come up with for painting, scratch building, designing, etc to see if any other my models made the contest coverage (vanity press) and to learn new techniques Any magazine I come across that shares some of Chuck Doans knowledge (and a few others) mandates an instant purchase. Doesn't matter if it's cars or bikes or tractors. The techniques transend these things. Car modeling has yet to embrace some of the techniques that are standard procedure in other forms of modeling. We see a spattering of weathered car models, but the techniques are bound to increase and become more mainstream as time goes on. Articles like Chuck's tractor are just what we need to advance the hobby.
  18. Good lookin' Deuce. Your wheel treatment looks cool. I wish you the best of luck in the contest.
  19. Good luck Cole. We'll see what Stacy thinks about the rat rod look.
  20. Cant' forget this one from Mr Airbrush. Cool ride Virgil. Your builds always stand out in a crowd. Best of luck to ya.

    Sneak Peak

Bump this one up with the rest for deadline day. Interesting treatment on the rear windows. Good luck to you Kaleb
  22. Love the the use of the white accent around the lower body areas. This is a very nice out of box build. Should be a strong contender. Good Luck with the contest.
  23. Deadline Day! Let get your's up with the rest of them today. Good Luck, buddy
  24. Thanks Terry. I love doing these flatheads. This is my fourth one in a row. Thanks, Mike. Those little indents are actually holes drilled all the way through the flange added to the opening.
