  1. Man, David, that looks fantastic! Great work on those decals. I have been working on mine for the last couple of days. Just pecking away at little details. I decided to do real wood on the panels after testing out a couple of different stains on my Birch wood. Unfortunately, I brought home the wrong stain so I have to drive 30 miles into town on one of the WORST weekends to have to go into town! Oh well. I talked to a buddy of mine last night and he and I are going to cast my wheel master so that I don't have to make 3 more. That will save a bit of time. Later-
  2. Nice pickups. I'd like to have any one of those. Later-
  3. Good to hear. The voices in my head were getting loud. Need some interaction to drown them out. Lol Later-
  4. OK. We just got through a weekend. Where is everyone at on their builds? Other than Jason and I it is starting to feel lonely around here.....Lol Later-
  5. Got the interior door panels completed. Not as nice of painting but it will work for something that won't get a lot of viewing. http:// Later-
  6. I was talking to a friend of mine last night. She runs a small thrift shop (mainly furniture). I told her that if she ever came across any model related stuff to set it aside for me. She told me that she has a box of built models in here shed from her deceased brother that I can have. She said that she remembers him building models back when she was about 10. That would make them, at least, 30 years old. She knows that there is a Star Trek Enterprise and thinks that there are a few cars. Who knows. Could be garbage, could be gold. I am DYING to see what GOLD is there! Stay tuned.... Later-
  7. Got the framing done today. http:// http:// http:// http:// What a blast! Later-
  8. Thanks fellas. I think that I am going with plastic panels. I am going to do that for two reasons. The first is that I think it will match the look of the painted frame better. The second is because I am actually having fun painting the wood grain and I'd like to get more practice at doing it. Kim, do you have a post for your build yet? Looking forward to seeing it. Later-
  9. I finally finished the paint on the framework. Next is to paint the panels and install. http:// http:// http:// http:// Slow progress, but it is progress. Later-
  10. Nice color. Later-
  11. That sucks!! Later-
  12. That hood is looking great Jason! The body does look like it could use some wet sanding. I'm sure it will look great once you do that. I like those wheel centers. I hate forgetting things like you said. Seems like I do it often enough. I get something in mind to do and get after it....then realize I should have done something else first. I got the frame wood finished this morning. It looks pretty good to me. Now I need to move on to the panel wood. I decided that I am going to do painted plastic instead of real wood panels. I had to touch up a bit of paint on the roof and the fenders from errant brush strokes. Looks good now. Unfortunately I left my cell phone at a coffee shop last night so I am not able to take any pics at the moment. Tomorrow though. Later-
  13. Status Update!! Where is everyone at on their builds? Pics please. I am painting the tan over the Candy Yellow and Clear Orange this morning. Later-
  14. Thanks David. It's much easier than I thought. Just going to be a ton of wood to paint. Good to hear that we have another entrant. Hopefully we can get them paired off soon. Later-
  15. I started the woodgraining process tonight. http:// http:// Test patterns: http:// http:// Also got the roof rack completed. Now to fill it. http:// Still having a blast with this one and learning a lot. Many firsts for me on this one. Later-
  16. Thanks for the input guys. I sat down tonight and tried a paint pattern for the panels. Here we're the results using Tamiya X-26 Clear Orange, XF-78 Wooden Deck Tan and XF-68 NATO Brown. http:// I think the shade is what I'm looking for but I will definitely have to go with a smaller grain pattern. I also painted the base of Candy Yellow on the framework. http:// http:// I will probably use the same Wooden Deck Tan and NATO Brown over this for a lighter color than the panels. I think the difference between the Candy Yellow and the Clear Orange will be enough of a difference. If not, I'll put more Tan over the frame than the panels. Later-
  17. The example above is just a piece of flat sheet plastic that I was practicing on. This is intended for the framing. I was going to do real wood in the panels but I am beginning to think that it might be too much of a contrast in textures that the stained wood would make the painted "wood" look too much like painted plastic. I may go back and glue plastic sheeting in the openings to paint them. That way I can get a light and dark "wood" contrast but no contrast in the textures. I'll do some more practicing over the next week and then make a determination as to whether I can make it work using real wood or not. Later-
  18. Yes, please. More info on the tires and wheels. Later-
  19. Here is what I used for this wood. http:// Left to Right is: Duratrax R/C paint "Candy Yellow", Ceramcoat satin Craft paint "Bamboo", "Cinnamon Sugar" and "Autumn Brown". I started with brushing a coat of the Candy Yellow and then a coat of the Bamboo. After that I dry brushed the Cinnamon Sugar and Autumn Brown a bit. At that point it didn't look right so I went back and dry brushed the Bamboo a bit more. It took about three rounds like that then finishing it up with a final light dry brushing of the Bamboo. I have to say that it really didn't look right to me until I taped off around the finished area. That's when it looked right to me because I wasn't seeing the unpainted white plastic around the painted area. What I mean is that the tape helped with tricking my mind into seeing the finished product. I hope this helps. I have to say that this is too light for what I want. I may try painting over the entire thing with a bit of clear orange to try to make it darker. If that works then I think I'll go with it. Later-
  20. Moving along. Began painting the rack. http:// Got the seats installed. http:// Got the exhaust painted and installed with the suspension parts. Just need to detail paint the chassis. http:// http:// I'm taking this home for the weekend to, hopefully, get to work on it a bit more. Later-
  21. Thanks for the encouragement. I took my first shot at woodgraining. I think that it turned out good but it may be too light for what I want. This is R/C Candy Gold paint with three shades of craft paint brushed over it. http:// More practice is needed. Later-
  22. Looking great! Later-
  23. Wow! Just read through this entire post. I love the concept and work you have put into this. I'd love to see it finished, as I am sure you would. I also have that Flintstone body. I was planning a LSR with a more 30's style to it. A curbside with tall, skinny tires on steel rims and a simple paint scheme with dull sheen. After reading through this though I may need to get another body to combine with MY leftover Cord parts. Keep after it. It is a great project. Later-
  24. Thanks guys. I realized yesterday that I am going to have to extend the feet down a bit at each end of the rack. I forgot to account for the curve in the roof. Should be very easy to do. The solder is very soft so I can remove them easily and make longer uprights on those ones. I may get some time today to do this plus I'd like to finish making the wheels. We will see how far I get during lunch today. I don't feel much in the mood right now. Later-
  25. I bet. Lol! Later-
