  1. Yes Nick, we can wax nostalgic all we want about 50cent issues of Hot Rod, but those days will never come back. Most mags today have adopted a style reminiscent of teen gossip mags, just small sound bites (print bites?) and some splashy graphics. Hot Rod Deluxe does a great job recalling the old Hot Rod and others from the 60s. I like Hot Rod Deluxe plus all the Hemming's publications and Collectable Automobile...those mags are written for adults.
  2. Unless you buy in an area with a Home owners association.
  3. I was approached to do art for a tee shirt company depicting cars. I was told to not put any of the trim bits in the drawing that called out the car's name or model. When asked, the owner said he got in trouble for selling shirts with unsecured licensing to use said trademarks. I countered with the fact that the design itself is a copyrighted property, I mean a 68 Corvette drawing still looks like a Vette, even if the name is not drawn on the car. I refused the work because I don't think the guy was reputable nor would I want to be named in a suit because my name would be on the drawings. I can do a singular drawing and not be in trouble, but making multiple prints of the drawing might cause me trouble. I don't think the car makers are going after artists like they were in the 80s and early 90s, but why push it.
  4. Well, skuttle me skippers and walk the plank ye land lubbers
  5. Got some kits at swap meet Sunday. Revell 1/32 1957 Ford IMC Ford GT Heller Alfa Romeo (missing wheels and tires)
  6. They weren't meant to be street scorchers. Just dependable little trucks. I liked the look of them and the Isuzu P'UP it's based on
  7. High Octane and I live in the same area of Wisconsin so we know temperature extremes. While his is controlled, mine is not, so the stash experiences big shifts in temperature. The garage has no heat nor cooling. I have had no trouble with any of the stash but I am slowly putting newer stuff into the garage and older stuff from the 60s and 70s into the apartment.
  8. http://www.modelroundup.com/category-s/213.htm Scroll down this site. They have several selections available. I believe the Parts By Parks are actual aluminum
  9. If you see a Radio Shack anywhere, most likely they will not know what you are looking for. Best buy your wire online or even search other wire suppliers for your purchase. Radio Shack has now become a glorified phone seller, and their employees know nothing about electronics anymore. RS has white as far as I know, but other colors are not available. Maybe google black 30awg wire for suppliers....or whatever color you like. I'm in the wire harness business, but we don't deal in that small gauge. I make my own cables for my DJ and sound business and order connectors and terminals through my employer. I had some 30awg lying around since wire was invented it seems in black, white and red. Let me check at work Monday for you and see what I might find available.
  10. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062640 easy peasy
  11. Culvers is great. Lucky to live in Wisconsin. I guess there are a few in Texas. Culvers has great fries, not those rock hard tongue skewers you get at McDs. It is not a coincidence that White Castle is decorated in white porcelain. The initials are dead give away on the quality of the food there. WC=Water Closet=White Castle. @Cobraman...we have George Webb's for 1 AM food, still better than WC.
  12. Perhaps copying the original plastic design with metal rod and soldering it together.
  13. No way. Robin took it out with his pal Aquaboy and was texting Super Girl while driving. She texted back a selfie of her in the middle of a costume change and he lost it.
  14. I think they are pushing out product that the nostalgic amongst us will buy without regard to reworking tooling or adjusting the tooling. Tool slippage at the moulding facility? Just bad moulds? Who knows. I would not blame it entirely on it being made in China. We've seen very nice examples come from there.
  15. I honestly do not know what the appeal of White Castle is. I had them years ago and just got ill. Don't like the taste, don't like the concept. There are way better burgers out here than those. I don't even eat McDs. We have Culvers here which is way better for fast food chains. I prefer independent stores for burgers. BTW, I did see the store you refer too. I wished I would have gotten a Chicago Dog, but the kids were in no mood to stop.
  16. Harry, I think we got used to the standard 3:15 song common in pop and country. The song here tells a story, more of a piratical or chanty type song. Admittedly it is long, but not for the genre. Personally I liked it and loved the singers inflections. And yes, I'm a singer...or used to be.
  17. True harry, and The Beatles learned a lot of the techniques from the Beach boys. In fact John Lennon had said the Pet Sounds album was a very great inspiration to them.
  18. That dusting we got can hardly be considered a snow fall.
  19. A 1969 Buick Special DeLuxe 2 door cpe.(Skylark body with posts) Bought this car for $50. Drove it from Milwaukee to Santa Barbara California. Had it for a few years and acquired more cars, a 73 caddy Eldo ragtop and a 54 Chevy Bel Air 4 door. The Buick had one of those after market steering wheels with the thick padded foam rim from Cal Custom or Grant. A lady I knew that volunteered in our Thrift Store for the non profit I worked at needed to go to LA for a coup,e of days and asked if she could borrow the Buick. Anyway, she comes back from LA raving about how comfortable the car was and how much power it had and how she could easily drive the car because of the steering wheel. She had a condition with her skin that caused it to tighten up and make her fingers curl up into a kind of hook like grip. The wheel was very easy for her to grip and manipulate. I asked if she truly liked the car and she said yes she did. I said "It's yours". I just gave her the car. This was in the late 70s. After she passed away (during which time I was back in Wisconsin) her son had the car for a while. I miss that car.
  20. My GF/Wifey collects angel figurines. It's relatively cheap as we get them at yard sales. The house is being over run by them and the model cars have staged a defensive posture against all the little figurines. I may have to build some armor/military kits to give the cars the advantage. Honestly though, she likes just being with me and doing things I do like going to car shows, helping me DJ and cooking stuff from scratch. I have not seen a boxed food for years. Even the pancakes are made from scratch. She makes home made bread, marinari sauce , pizza sauce and pizza dough, granola bars, smoothies...et al.
  21. I really want to attempt building this. I think the hinge mounting for the trunk/top cover will have to be modded as the real car does not have those notched in hinges.
  22. 2.2L = 134.25in³ 149 Horsepower in my HHR panel. Pretty impressive considering early V8 engines had close ratings if it was a basic 2 bbl carbed engine. I'm getting slightly more that 1 HP per cid. The SS model gets 260 HP out of a 2 litre turboed engine...and they are wicked fast.
