  1. 2013 Honda Civic weighed in at 2716 lbs and the 72 Coronet weighed in at 3417 lbs
  2. Although I have a limited income, I never balked at the AM and Galaxie prices. I own three AM Vettes and two and one half Galaxie Chevys. I saved up, then bought them. When the Meng Ford kit comes out, I will buy that one as well, regardless of cost. I even have the pricey ICM Opel. Funny how people who complain about these choices are also the first to jump up on the Tamiya (or whatever Japanese company) band wagon over what are essentially expensive curb sides (with exceptions of course) and sing to high heaven their praises.
  3. Pretty much true, Carl, but what can one do. We don't know who the outside vendor was, and I'm sure according the owners of said tooling would think it was none of our business. Only thing we can hope for is for a big storage trailer be found with a whole selection of these by-gone kits. Now wouldn't that be something......"on our next episode of Storage Wars, one of the bidders gets a trailer full of JoHan kits still sealed".
  4. Which is why the NSRA has safety inspectors set up and major shows like NSRA and GoodGuys and the WSRA Corn Roast. They look at them and tell you what you need to look at, cuz sometimes one doesn't know that a problem is there. Now let's just kill the thread. Kill it! Kill it with fire!
  5. Model Empire put a T-Bird NASCAR kit with no decals in a plain white box with black graphics. The idea was to buy aftermarket decals and build your kit the way you wanted it.
  6. Very nice car. More pics from the rear would really be nice. I'm working on a stock version.
  7. I've been workin on a Kamback Firebird and I put an older style nose on it from a revell 1/24th scale 1970 Trans Am kit. I tried doing the same putting a camaro nose on one of my Airfix versions of this kit but it never looked right. If I had the Camaro version, I'd still have to replace that mal formed nose.
  8. That is one of my favorite cars ever. I had a 69 Special DeLuxe, and my Grandfather had when new a 69 Skylark Custom. Both 350 equipped. I would never have left mine unseen for over 10 years. Just sayin'. Too bad about the car though. Not really many of them left as Chevelles and Cutlasses and GTOs found more favor with the restorers and collectors.
  9. I remember watching John Ostrenga making the Golden Rod from scratch. It later became the master for Jimmy Flinstone's LSR model. This was many years ago.
  10. Are the add on tail lights from the kit? or were they from something else. They look like truck tail lights.
  11. Nice car. Just like some around here.
  12. Yup, that's what I'm hoping. Luckily I got my tax money back yesterday and I can afford it. I just would rather spend it buying models (really?) and things I / we need.
  13. OK, I understand what you were getting at, Moparfan1. Thanks again. I'm getting ready for the show with my table and chairs and the flyers and forms I need. I have to be there all three days plus Thursday load in. That is 96 bux for two people and the 15 bux it will cost me to park. $111 before food costs are figured in. Luckily I can come and go and use local restaurants in the area. Hopefully we are seeing a warm up with 43 degrees on Thursday.
  14. I wish VW would send those to the US. No more HHR Panel production from Chevy and the Ford Transit Connect is just too darned ooogly. We have two 2013 Jettas in the family and they are great cars.
  15. The Harbor freight air brushes are around $30. I've seen the Miller 2000 compressors and they are cheap and noisy. Brush could be the same way.
  16. I got my state and fed tax refunds today! Bought a new coat as my old coat no longer zipped up and I was tired of being cold. MOdel shop excursion tomorrow....YAY me!
  17. Moparfan1, thanks for the comment. Don't be so down on what you percieve to be poor quality entries. These shows often have a certain amount of local cars in the arena to fill space. For every celebrity car like a batmobile that the WOW pays to have displayed, the show needs x amount of locals to pay entry fees. These might be from local clubs who are invited at their own expense to have cars in the show and perhaps compete for the local trophies (which the clubs also pay for in extra judged fees)
  18. At least you still have a model contest, Tony.
  19. Another thing, I understand the appeal of having maybe a character like Spongebob there for the kids, but do we really need wrestlers and Playboy centerfolds and some tarted up dance company/calendar girls? What has that to do with cars?
  20. World Of Wheels is coming to many of the cities we live in and one thing that has gone away is the model contest. This was the one contest that many of us went to before we started doing NNLs and other events not connected to a car show. Through much digging around and detective work I find the main reason is venues do not want to part with those free Sunday passes allowing the models top be picked up. Bottom line, they ain't making the money off the second admission. Rumor has it that the pinstripe for charities is going to go away soon as well because those artists have been getting free admission for the weekend. Some venues have them pay for the first day but they get passes for the rest. I live in an area where I can see all the cars I want during show season here for free. That said, if it wasn't for my presence to be there because of our car clubs display, I would not go. In our venue, the house electrician is the only one who can plug in your lights and other rigs if you need it. Tnhe food is vended by the same people who sell food at our sports stadiums and is often way over priced....but the get it staffed by volunteers who work for free from some local organization for a small cut to the charity they represent. Then the property also gets a parking fee as well at $5 a car...add $16 per person entry and maybe $8 for hot dog, $5 for soda, maybe a side at $5 on top of that. If you are there all day for the whole weekend it adds up. Our particular venue is on State Fair property but the building is owned by a private firm and they make us bend over and like it. With experience in putting on shows, I know how expensive it is, but we don't rape our venders and we don't charge a third of what they charge for spectator admissions plus our food is at decent costs like maybe about $7 for the Friday fish fry with all the fixin's and our corn on the cob is free.
  21. Life must be pretty boring in Redding.
  22. Got some clear paint and decals for my Heller Alpine and decals for a Howmet racer. Now I just need that Howmet racer!
  23. I've driven them and found them to be tinny. I was going to buy one but I chose the HHR Panel instead. Doesn't sound tinny when you shut the doors.
  24. I've never stored BMF in the fridge. I never had an issue with it and my sheets are from 10 to 5 years old.
