My ICM Opel Admiral came in and I picked it up today. No SD card in camera (dog ate it) so I will post pic when I get a new one.

Car manufacturers bailing out of Oz...
lordairgtar replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Don't know about the cost breakdown per car but Australia heavily subsidizes the auto industry there. Holden gets A$1.8 billion, Ford gets A$ 1.1 billion and Toyota gets about A$1.1 billion -

Don't forget the Monaro. -
Thanks for the reply, Niko. ISDT means International Six Day Trials, trials racing would be right. I had owned a Montessa Cota ISDT back in the late 70s.

"am I on the right track" w/ engine detailing!
lordairgtar replied to ajulia's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'm pretty well blessed working where I work. Custom Wire Industries! Plenty of wiring scraps for me to dig thru. Any wiring you can find smaller than awg 30 is great for plug wires in both those scales. Remember that the number size gets bigger as the wire gets smaller. Awg means American Wire Gauge. Here is a linky, but beware, there is math. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_wire_gauge -

I guess Milwaukee rules on that aspect too. In Model Empire, they have a bunch of photo-etch hanging on the wall...Model Car garage and detail Masters. -

Not knowing what year Neon you are looking for is a problem. They never made a kit of one, but there was a promo model of the first series Neon. There are car kits with trailers that you can modify to look like the one under your Trans Am. There are no 2008 Chevy Trucks that I ever seen, but there may be a toy that can be used. 1999 is the earliest kit I can think off for the truck. There are 79 Trans Am kits, though. -

I guess it would, Harry. -
What is that? never seen one of those. Looks like a ISDT bike. Is Tuntari a Finnish brand?

I have seen a few of the G8s, GTOs and Chevy SSs. All based on Holden cars. All were very nicely done. The fit and finish was up there with other premium cars. I've seen Aussie Fords in this country sold as a Mercury Capri sports car, itself based on an older Mazda platform similar to the Miata. Not a bad car either. I've had the opportunity to view classic Aussie Fords, Chryslers, and Holdens here owned by ex-pats....all very nicely done. -
Funny, but a guy i know has an article about his model in it and had an advance copy on Dec. 6.

it's important to know what the correct pronunciation is. I say Willys like the family pronounces their name, but I hear so many say willeez. It's in the vernacular. It does irk me about mispronunciations and I grate at them, but it isn't a big deal, and you wouldn't want to alienate your friends over it. I have friends in the model club that will pronounce JOHAN, Yohan like it was Johann, another insists on saying Aroshima instead of Aoshima, Italeri becomes Italierri from some. Not a big deal. We know what they mean when they say it. Like the argument of Bimmer and Beamer regarding the cars and bikes from Bavaria (Cars are one and Bikes are called the other), but it just comes down to douchebaggerry on that one. LOL. Jag-war or Jag-u-ar; Porsh or Porsha...does it really matter in the long run. Here's another one for you, we know of the car Mercedes Benz. The car is Mer-SAY-Deez, but the girls name that the car was named for is pronounced MER-sed-eez. -

But what is shipping cost. I couldn't determine that. -

So John Abbot promises to work with Toyota to keep them in Australia? So what did he do for Holden and Ford? Not a damned thing apparently. -

The steamer was stock. Looked like a Case. The John Deere was modified and it's torque band was changed. I'll bet if the JD was stock, it would have fared better against the steamer. Still would have been beat, but it would have taken longer. -

Sometimes the brick and mortar can augment the internet and vice a versa. I went to a newer LHS in Oak Creek near Milwaukee to check it out. Basically an armor, military, aircraft store; they had a limited selection of kits for cars. They did have some 1/32nd scale Airfix kits that one does not see much of. I saw some 1/35th scale ICM kits of cars! I knew they also are marketing 1/24th scale autos from the WWII era. I took this opportunity to order an Opel Admiral kit in 1/24th as he did not have it in stock...so I let him do the ordering and also reaped the black Friday discount which got me this kit for $50. It normally is going at $59 or thereabouts. Yes, I could have gone on line and did it myself, but would not have seen this discount and still would have to come up with shipping costs. If a LHS does not offer to order things for you that do not stock, then those are the ones who will not do well. I know my tastes are obscure. I had one other place order my Trumpeter Hong Qi limousine Car Of State for me. They did. They would have never stocked this car because of the limited appeal. -
The Lovely Lori decided she did not want to drive this morning so I got to take the HHR to work. Holy BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH!!! BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH traction control is crazy weird. I found I could drive better with it off than on. BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH brakes kept clicking on and off trying to find bite on the road. Turned it off and drove rally style to work. Much better when I have control. Not much snow, but icy.

And you can thank the treasonous Cash For Clunkers program for that. -
Tosh is an idiot. The Last Place comment is undeserving. Rarely has she been in last place. There are generally 10 to 15 drivers behind her every race but they are never made fun of because they are guys and we all know those guys are better than Danica....NOT. And she is very pretty to my eyes. Love her smile.

Hobby Shops... Are They Viable Today?
lordairgtar replied to Tom Geiger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I live near a city with several Walmarts, KMarts, Targets, ad nauseum. We also have two big LOCAL hobby shops and they thrive. We have some specialty shops for the train guys and the armor guys. They do well. They all offer help, places to have contests, keep shelves stocked with cool things, not afraid top special order, offer discounts to clubs, support clubs and loaners alike, and some have an internet presence. Yes, one store closed, but it had bad stock, bad attitudes behind the counter, stupid pricing structure and trashy dirty unkempt stores with wet floors and odors. I can't speak to your experience, but I know what's going on here in Milwaukee, and it's awesome. I will continue to support local biz when possible. When I go to our shops, even just to look around, I am greeted like an old friend. With a combine Metro area encompassing Milwaukee and Waukesha counties , we have over 2 million people, so you can see just how many big stores we have, but the locals can hold their own. I think in regards to WalMart, they had limited choices where the independent stores had variety, service, and smiles. I mean, you never found Tamiya or Hasegawa model or Floquil paints or different adhesives besides the ubiquitous orange tube of Testors, AMT and Revell kits and Testor's paints....and not much of those in any meaningful numbers.
