Got threatened for parking in the disabled spot today
lordairgtar replied to disabled modeler's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
My wifey has a disability due to an injury at two years of age that caused hydrocephalus. She has balance and stability issues. She drives the trucklet more than I and goes places she needs to go to. We use a placard when she is with me or driving her self. People are pretty rude when they assume it's me that has the placard. I get attacked all the time with comments like "If you'd lose weight, you would not need to have a disabled placard, you fat blankety blank". They don't ever notice Lori standing there with a cane she sometimes needs. First off, they do not give placards to overweight people, second, mind yer derned business...I tell them. Or how about the people who pull into the disabled spot and then tell you they are just popping in for a second. I just say as I'm dialing the local PD, let's see if the cops can get here before you leave then. -
I remember that now. I entered as well. Didn't win anything.

whats exotic?
lordairgtar replied to DrewCfromSC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Exotic is anything I cannot afford...so a VW Jetta is an exotic car LOL. Seriously, there are American exotics as well. Shelby cars are exotic. Ford GTs would be exotic. Certain Corvettes can be exotic. Would a Tesla be an exotic? -
Hobby Shops... Are They Viable Today?
lordairgtar replied to Tom Geiger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
True customer service. An example from my experience back in the days I was hitch hiking around the country. I was in St Louis and I needed a potty break and a cold beverage. The only thing around was a Cadillac dealer. Clearly I was not in the demographic that bought caddies in those days. I pop in and ask if I can use the rest room. The sales guy said yes and I dropped my back pack outside the door and went to the loo. I came out and the sales guy asks where I am going, where I'm from and all that. I tell him I'm hitching HWY 66 to California. He asks if I'd like to see a car. I said I'm not really in the money to buy any car let alone a Caddy. He says he did not care, walks me over to a Sedan DeVille and goes through the car explaining it's features. I'm like no way is he going to sell me a car and why is he showing me the car. He explained it's his job to be a seller of Cadillacs and everyone is treated the same in his store regardless of his or her station in life. They may not buy a car, nor be able to, but when they can, maybe they will think of the brand Cadillac as the choice for them. That always stuck with me and I've always liked the marque because of him. I eventually owned two Caddies later on in life. That is true customer relations. You are an ambassador of the store you work at or own, and of the brands you sell. -

Reissue chances?
lordairgtar replied to checkmate's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I would like another crack at that 1/20th scale Ford van again. Built it as a teen. It came with optional shop truck stuff like a pull out engine hoist. It had a clear oil pan on the Ford V8. I thought I would be slick and put real oil in it so it could be seen. I was not very good at the attempt and gluing an oily piece of clear plastic onto another bit of painted plastic is hard. Glue , oil, and paint do not mix. I even had the Ironside van with a scale wheel chair in it. Another van I'd like to get my hands on is the Plymouth window van they did for a short time. I believe it was MPC that sold that one. I thought it would be cool to put that grille on a regular van in the Dodge kits....just to be different. -
Hobby Shops... Are They Viable Today?
lordairgtar replied to Tom Geiger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I truly hope this passes the test for you, Tom. I wish you all the luck in it. You seem to be on the ball business wise and you seem to have put together a support team that has expertise . I would say move to my area, but we have several good LHSs already. LOL. Is there a desire in the customer base in your area for such a hobby shop? Or would you have to relocate to a more lucrative spot? I'm looking forward to your further adventures. -

Buying multiple issues of the same kit

JoHan's Mercedes Benz kits and Chrysler Turbine kits. You'd be surprised at the various colors those Turbines have been molded in. -

Voted. -
Very nice work. I have Tamiya's 1/12 scale Honda racer in the collection. I'm a bit afraid to tackle such a big kit. But someday I will do it. Good to see someone from another place on the Earth in the forum.

Skyline BMF question
lordairgtar replied to lordairgtar's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have been BMFing the Skyline and it seems to work well. It just needed some for the window trim as the rest of the trim is seperate chrome bits in the kit. Very ficky to handle the small side trim which reminded me of the chrome trim on an old tool Revell 56 Chevrolet. At least Fujimi saw fit to tool indentations into the body where the trim goes. -
What do you drive?
lordairgtar replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I drive my GF/wifey crazy. LOL BTW Tulio, that is a nice variant of the old 1966 Ford body. I like the subtle differences of the Brazilian Fords. I owned a 66 at one time and I really wanted to customize mine into a later model Brazilian Ford. -
What makes us/you shelve a build ?
lordairgtar replied to cobraman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes, a previously mentioned build in another thread. I had strted a kammback Firebird from the Airfix/Lindberg kit. I grafted a 70 nose onto the body and used a Revell chassis. I then decided to restyle the rear of the body and cut up the rear bumper/taillight assembly. I then realized what I wanted to do was impossible for my skill level. So now it sits...watching me....watching....calling my name....Gregg, come to the dark side..... -

lordairgtar replied to clovis's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's the kit. I no longer own it as I was quite younger when I built it in high school. i do have several unbuilt examples in the queue waiting. After the Renwal Bugatti, Prince Skyline, and ICM Opel Admiral and Emhar Bedford truck, it's next. Along with it's creme colored mate.
