Sorry, no photos--I'm not technologically advanced to that point yet. The decals do give the dash a finished and detailed look, without overpowering it. I still have to do the speedometer decal, though, but there's no way I'm using the shift pattern decal. After considering the job, and the fact that I used only water to install them, I'd appreciate you all telling me about the other methods to do this--setting solutions and so forth. There have to be better ways. And Chris B? Belgium is not a country--it's a parish in Louisiana. Dora the explorer told me so...

Just finished putting the seven dash decals on the Revell '62 Corvette dashboard. My hands are shaking, my eyes are crossed, and I'm sure my blood pressure is at an unhealthy level. Whoa, that was fun...

Sharp looking build! It's a great Revell kit, and you more than did it justice!

Too bad, "Bug Yellow" is a great color, to me. I think it's also known as "light yellow", as noted above. Anyway, good luck!

Just started working on this, and in assembling the headers noticed that they were going to be a problem. The left side pipes make the first bend off the head at a sharp angle, and descend pretty much vertically, while the right side set have a more gentle bend off the head, and stick out farther from the block than the left side headers. I haven't gotten that far, but it looks like this will be a problem connecting to the side pipes, and it just looks odd. Anyone else notice this, or do I have the one and only kit with this weirdness?

Testors "Bug Yellow" in aerosol can is a pastel yellow. Another possibility is Rust-oleum "Gloss Warm Yellow", in a spray can also. It's even lighter yellow than the Testors. I've had good luck with both colors, but both will need gloss coats. To me, pastel yellow is a bright yellow with white added to it. The white tones down the brightness, and lightens the yellow. Ford's "Phoenician Yellow" is an extreme example of pastel yellow (and it's also available in Testors spray). Good luck!

Bill: thanks for the ideas--I'd already thought about the sbc as a donor, but I haven't started looking yet, and now I have some new directions to think about. My goal for the Ford is a mid 60s boulevard cruiser, so I think I'll try for some inside the rails models, if possible. Also, thanks for your tip (months ago) on searching the forum. It sure makes searching easier and more productive. Jim

Does anyone know a source for headers for the Revell '57 Ford? I'm not a brass/solder kind of guy, so I'm looking for resin or kit tube headers. I know about the Hedman headers in the AMT '56 Ford, but surely there's something more contemorary out there...

Painting torque thrust rims

I use Testors enamels, but I've never had a problem with leaving brush strokes. I use a small bit of aluminum foil pressed inside something like a prescription bottle lid to do my mixing, and my primary colors are aluminum and gunmetal. Both are metallic, and provide (through mixing), any shade from aluminum to almost black. A careful application of chrome silver will correct any mistakes, especially on the lug nuts. -
Lookin' good! Are those the kit Yenko decals?

Very nice work! What color is that?

Mark: thanks for the idea about the Q-tip--never thought of that. I try to wipe the tinlets and lids with a shop towel as I use them, but I like your idea better. I've also tried pouring the paint from the tin into a glass jar, but that didn't work too well. I don't think I got all the pigment out of the old and into the new jar, and the paint was thin and tended to dry up. You guys have some great ideas--keep 'em coming!

I really like Humbrol paint, but I really, REALLY don't like "tinlets". There. I feel better.

Dave, because of Moebius' product quality and subject choices, I don't care what you produce next 'cause I'll buy at least one of each. And, since the Plymouth, Pontiac Ventura and Comet have been on my personal wish list forever, I'll have to have multiples of those. I would like to submit two possible suggestions, though, if you'll allow me...the 1964 Chevy II Nova SS (with the V8 option), and the 1963 Falcon Sprint. Both were kind of ground breaking mini-hotties, and if you think about it, sort of foreshadowed the muscle car era (i.e., compact cars with a first attempt at using V8 engines combined with performance styling and accessories). Anyway, thanks for bringing your expertise, enthusiasm, and savvy to our hobby!

Love the rear plate...great model! it looks like it could...

I just bought one of these lamps today, and I'm a happy builder. I've been toiling with a low power magnifier and an incandescent lamp, and feeling much like a medieval monk illustrating hand-made books in a dimly lit cell. This thing is GREAT! Lots of light, great magnification, and I really appreciate the no heat aspect. Highly recommended!!

This is great...you guys are providing me with what I need to know! Another thing I'd like to know is how long should a final paint coat dry before applying a clear coat?
-
How about a 1963 Falcon Sprint? It's an early attempt at the muscle car idea with appealing styling, and would make a great box stock kit. A follow up could be the Monte Carlo rally cars (they're so hip even Jay Leno has one), and NHRA stockers, I suppose. In my perfect world (an imaginary one, for sure), this kit would transform in time to a convertible then a Squire wagon. Oooooh....

I'd like to start using some Tamiya spray paints, but I have a question for you all before I buy for specific projects: what's the difference between Tamiya metallics, the various "mica" colors, and the "clear" varieties? If I'm not mistaken, they make a metallic red, a couple of mica reds, and a clear red...how do they differ? Thanks, guys! One other question--has anyone ever tried the Tamiya "light red"? Is it as pink as the cap looks?

AMT Redline/Goodyear Polyglass Tires
berr13 replied to drifterdon's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Has anyone seen these red line tires in the F60 size, in another kit? The RR has only the L60s, and I'd really like to have these tires in the smaller size. They look sooooo good!
