I started model building when I was 8 years old in 1956. My first was a ship as my Dad built a 2nd ship along with me. I think it was his first model also! His was painted to perfection, mine I don't remember at all. I built many boats, planes and armor but didn't want to do a Revell car kit with multi-piece bodies. Then, in 1958 AMT did it .. one piece bodies! And even more, extra custom parts! That was it for me .. nothing but car kits from there on in. I took a long break for life at 16 and didn't come back until my kids were model age and I wanted to see if they liked. They didn't, but, I DID! That was in the mid-90's. I haven't stopped since then after seeing the kit quality, the aftermarket and building one. I do tend to just build in short spurts. Now I just go down in my basement shop (!) for an hour or so for whatever a few tasks on the current model takes. Finishing is rarely on my task list ... I enjoy the actual building process too much to worry about finishing. Most of my builds now seem to be cars I have owned, or known.
