  1. Welcome .. 40 years is about how long my break from modeling was. Do search here for "broken windshield" as there have been threads here about it. Unfortunately, there's no real way to fix it without the crack showing. Look here on how to do a search .. the forum search function won't find you much.
  2. Sorry, Eric, I was thinking Hudson, NY .. guess the Pennsy didn't run through there but the New York Central did and we did have a merger ... eheh. Trains still stop at Hudson and is where I go when taking one to NYC.
  3. Watching the great work going on here. That body looks just right.
  4. Not rude at all, Jacob! I appreciate the input but I have already made some drag links .. they did end up being pretty short and would probably add too much torsion resistance. I just mounted the rear ones to the frame .. is that a cross-member the top of the ones in your photo are mounted to? I do want to thank everyone again for their input and here's what I ended up doing .. not perfect, but I really didn't want to get too far off the kit build on this.
  5. Work has been ongoing on this .. lots of painting for the chassis and it's coming together. The engine and transfer case are just placed for these shots but everything else is glued. The shocks I made came out wonderful and were easy to make. I started to rust and weather so all those tiny white specs are baking soda I dropped in the wet rust paint for texture. I just glued the headers on and they have an aluminum pipe at ends to receive the solder tail pipes I have to make when engine is glued in place. The wheels also got painted but still need a black wash. The drag links I made after asking a question about the sway bar attachment here in the forum and the help I got vastly improved the look of this chassis! Next two are shots of front and rear drag links which are still in brass. I have been contemplating the body. I'd like to use the louvered hood from the '49 Merc sedan but it will take some cutting and fitting to adapt it. This is a really custom hood. Haven't decided yet, but it will look good on this.
  6. Welcome to the forum, Erik. We DO allow modeling photos other than cars here in the All the Rest section. I'm not far from Hudson and would love to see some of your layout. Or are you talking about Hudson, PA? I would love to have a train layout but I know it would be just too much for me .. I have enough trouble finishing my car builds! I dabble, thou .. I'm just finishing a boxcar repaint for a friend decaled like an advertisement from our builds in a game called Landmark. It's fun getting a switch in build subjects once in awhile.
  7. kind of .. BEAUTIFUL! ... I'd say. ... everything about it.. love this one!
  8. Oh no! ... well, maybe I'll be able to use this to keep my balance in the mall! Got my popcorn and sitting here waiting for NEXT update ..
  9. no, keep your daughters away from THIS one! That's a really nice build, Kieth! Very clean and that paint screams "look at me!" Are those leopard skin interior sides???
  10. Oh Scott ... now I'm going to have to go on an endless search for that magazine! Think I have to do another scour for that slide I scanned of the '40 to rescan larger
  11. I've never had any model chosen for a magazine. I've seen many similar builds but probably because they were built when Bill Cushenbery's El Matador was done. This is the only part of it I have left .. you can see how bad my first Candy paint job was ... and that truck .. "mid 80's pic" and "Just a couple months ago," ... now you're talking MY speed! That IS an interesting truck .. is it based on a Corvair? I'd love to see it done .. this millennium at least. And everyone .. this thread is the best in a long time .. photos are awesome from when we were all little kit wrecking pups! Keep em coming!!!
  12. A real looker! The black paint looks so good .. I'm envious!
  13. That's awesome, Wayne .. published even!
  14. No kidding! I still get upset thinking about it,, eheheh
  15. This had to be about 1962 as I was 16 when I did this. It won 1st in custom class and lost Best in Show because they said it wasn't "roadable". I guess it wasn't because I used every trick I had to lower it to a scale 48" high. A '40 Ford sedan that was obviously based on the Matador. I'm embarrassed that this is the best slide I got with my 35 mm camera, but I don't think I had an SLR yet.
  16. I'll start .. Where is that split window body from? .. one you fashioned yourself? The roof rack on the '67 looks just like one I need for a '69 I'm building. Was that scratch built or from some kit? .. actually the rack on the '51 is closer but without the diagonal members. Guess I'm asking about them both.
  17. drop links are in place. I added a cut hex rod at the end of the rear one which is a bit too long, but it all looks 100% better than just gluing the ends to the frame. Thanks to all!
  18. I can see you have a pretty big lift kit added ... but good to hear it gets some play! I made some drop links this morning from some .02 brass rod and letting the glue dry on one end. I drilled one end into the frame at the rear but for the front the drop links go into the underside of the leaf springs. It looks like yours are mounted to the lift bar, but length of sway bar would necessitate this I expect I'll throw a pic here when I do final mounting before some paint.
  19. Thank's for that info, Jacob and Rodger. I'd love to see a photo of a built one too!
  20. I'm liking this.. engine colors are working! And a really nice job on the extractor .. look good to me.
  21. Thanks, Bill. I kind of had an idea but you gave me something to delve better into. Looks like I'll have to come up with a connecting link ... I can't just blue this blindly to the frame or axle as Monogram wants me to.
  22. I'm not a truck expert so I need some help identifying and locating pieces from the Monogram Chevy Sport Pick-Up 4x4 I am using to go under a '49 Merc Wagon. The pieces are circled in red on the attached photo from the instructions. I can see how the cross bar attaches but the ends have no attachment point on the axles or frame. These ends also are enlarged with a smaller diameter ending that looks like it should fit in a hole. I did search online anything I could find on this and had no luck. Even if you can identify what this is called would help.
  23. I have to agree with you all about integrity .. I was pretty surprised at the great number of very good looking models by single digit aged people. If this truly reflects our next generation, I feel the hobby will be in suburb hands! If this reflects the integrity of the parent, it's a sad day for model building. I've never had one photo published, but this is more a reflection of my completion rate and entering in national contests.
  24. never mind that, how about a wax job?
