Ricardo sent the engine to Ferrari to be rebuilt and he wanted a Hot Rod bore and stroke. Ferrari replied that they didn't know what 'Hot Rod' meant and they don't change engine specifications. So he had the engine shipped to his friend Luigi Marioski who was fired from Ferrari after getting caught selling Ferrari Badges on ebay. He told Luigi to get him 100 more horsepower from the engine no matter what the cost or modification, as long as the modifications didn't show externally. We won't go into WHAT Luigi did. The engine is coming together slowly as it gets painted. The distributors have three .04 square strips added to the top for the coil and 2 ignition wires with the other four drilled below. The will pass through the black tube on the valve cover to the plugs between the header pipes. I'm going to use yellow wires .. something else Ferrari refused to do.

I'm working on my Ferrari but it's all tiny bits on the engine and that needs to be presented in one piece with story ... There's been a lot of good looking work going on here ... glad to see everyone getting on it early ... enjoying it all while my engine is getting rebuilt ... but Ferrari refused to bore and stroke it for more horsepower so had to go to another ...

Welcome to THE forum. Those are some cool builds ... I like builds based on reality as I tend to drift towards making all the cars I've owned. ... and we seem to have the same philosophy .. "I build the same way, having way more ideas and plans than finished models" -

Hole filling medium for wheel/axle mounting
Foxer replied to Speedfreak's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I seem to be doing a lot of this recently ... might be just fitting different wheels to builds. I use plastic and brass tubes to reduce hole sizes and also to enlarge them .. especially the axle shafts that fit into the tubes. All of these are hobby tubes that fit well one inside the other as the size goes up or down. Filling with putty and drilling would be much more work .. not to mention finding the center to drill. Here's a photo to show what I'm talking about .. This is an adaptation of Prowler wheels to a '32 Ford. I would find the largest plastic tube that fits tightly in the hole. One that is slightly larger would be good as you can drill out the hole to fit. This makes finding the center easy. Then add short sections inside to take the diameter down to just smaller diameter than whet you need and drill the proper diameter in that. Just use plastic glue ... I let it set up before drilling the holes. This lets you easily narrow the diameter and still makes getting the new hole square on center. Couldn't be easier. -
That paint does have a nice metallic sheen. So Charlie ... did you get your film back from the show yet? I've been dying to see some photos and no one has seemed to record this historic event!

Kombi van
Foxer replied to Aussie_Modeler's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Really good looking build there! Do they call these Kombi's down there? Just curious because I learned to drive om my Dad's '56 Kombi which had the rear side windows filled. This is a 23 Window Samba version I always thought. Looking on the Net I guess every VW Type 2 gets called a Kombi at some point. Go figure ... This is what I call a Kombi ... -
Stubborn lacquer under chrome
Foxer replied to BirdWatcher's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I also use Dawn power dissolver for the chrome lacquer removal. All those other things mentioned above have never removed it .. maybe they have for some kits lacquer but not on the tough stuff. -
OK .. Tom's defining LONGEST as time while you were still modeling. Since I'm one of those that took about 30 years off I'll renege the '49 Ford, and up a '49 Merc that is all chopped with a rounded grill opening made by casting the bottom half in epoxy circa 1994 more or less. That's only 21 years .. but it's still in it's box trying for a record!

CHECKING IN AGAIN
Foxer replied to jerseyjunker1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A lot of people don't look when they type .. my eyes are always glued to the keyboard and I look at what I typed when I'm done. That caps lock is a pain for me too .. too easy to hit it. I forgive him. And grats on the book .. your work has always interested me. -
I couldn't resist and ordered some. I'll give a report on how I find it after I try a few things. I have longed for a light cured material ever since getting my first resin filling at the dentist!

I really like that it's going to a NNL type show. One reason I didn't go to enter anything was because I don't do contests anymore. Should be a bigger draw for me next year. Anyone have any photos from the show????????????????????????????????
