  1. Great looking build of a beautiful car .. and those photos are fantastic! Scale is right there
  2. My "skill" just comes from chopping tops since I was 12 years old and loving model bodywork, but it's nothing difficult and just takes a little practice. I showed just how that conversion was done in my build thread so others might see how to do it or even improve how I tackled the problem. Do show us how you come on your proposed build.
  3. Ah .. good lead in. Crossing my fingers you're gonna keep hat chrome roof band ... one reason I love the '56 Vic.
  4. I just started a '49 woody and planning some weathering on it. I'd be interested in how you did the wood. This looks spectacular!
  5. Thanks John and Bill. Hopefully one year I'll make it down for Liars show.
  6. There are MANY builds around of police cars using the Lindberg.kit .. probably just google the kit to see many. I'm not doing a cop car but am backdating one to the '92 CV my Dad had. The CV's changed so little it's not difficult to change the year on the Lindberg. There is a web site that deals in Police gear .. light bars and such ... but I don't have the addy off hand. Maybe someone else can supply it for you.
  7. Must be why I like you, Tom .. those are MY words to a T!
  8. Drop dead gorgeous model, Harry! Was a pleasure following your build .. BTW, I miss Debra .
  9. Of course I shouldn't start a new build, but I'm actually near completion (!) on a Sambar and HAVE to get something else going!!! I'm getting old I think cause I keep looking at jacked-up trucks running around here ... I'm a sports car nut thru and thru. I thought it would be cool to do one that's all beat up and muddy from running around the trails here in the Berkshires. One thing led to another and this is what I ended up with .. something different for the Revell Merc Woody wagon AND .. let the photos show ... Yes .. that's a a 1/25 Wagon sitting on a 1/24 TRUCK chassis! The wheelbase is almost exact and only had to remove some side pods and rear of tailpipe to fit it. The truck frame straddles the Merc gas tanks nicely and only needed a couple little notches for the truck frame to drop right in level! Now the research begins. The Monogram truck tires don't look bad, but I'm looking into something a bit larger. These scale out to 30" od with the rims scaling to 17" in 1/25 scale. Any suggestions would be appreciated. The engine .. looking at just dropping the Monogram truck engine in with some hop up goodies. Will be easiest since it will fi tto frame but might be tight in the Merc fender insides. I'll see when glue on engine halves dries. The body I'll do a little customizing on but nothing too radical .... not chopping top. Thinking one tone wood and something cheap for paint .. like flat black primer. Some rust and dirt with worn wood too. Bumpers probably left off or some homemade wood ones. The ribbed bumpers from the Revell Merc custom may be too much, as nice as they are. Maybe some other custom parts from it I can borrow, So .. that's it at this stage. I'd love to hear any thoughts you might have on this!
  10. This was a great writeup on these Monogram trucks! Not a trucker by nature and having two of these kits (?) I appreciated the info and only came on thisr esearching anew build I'm considering. I thought the truckers here might be interested in what I found ... I have the 1972 issue of this kit and I found .. really .. that the frame and suspension is almost a drop in fit to .. the Revell '49 Mercury Woody Wagon! There were only a few things that had to be remover, the rear of tailpipe and those side pods .. anyone now what they are? Here's the proof ... The wheelbase is only off by a small fraction of an inch.
  11. This is going to have a nice flare to it .. and I'm serious!
  12. I was about to suggest a NSU. I lived in Neckarsulm for a year and half while babysitting Pershing Missiles in 1967. The factory was still NSU back then and it was my first auto factory tour. After later becoming an Audi factory they built all five of my Porsche 924/044's there. So, this has sentimental value for me. NUS also put the Wankle engine on the map! I always thought they looked like a BMW 2002 ripoff.
  13. Amazing detail we can see in this all black car .. beautiful build and photography!
  14. Ahhh ... really like it on wheels!
  15. Had to search that photo since no link was given. That could be a good start ..
  16. I should do the same to use on the '69 I'm building and then can build the '70 with bumpers! I started it before the two new Revell kits and hey would have greatly lessened my work. Using the '68 body, the tail lights would be the only major bodywork. I wish Revell had cast the tail lights in these kits separate from the body.
  17. I've been hooked on this forum since the first time here and have looked virtually every day and usually more than once a day .. for almost 6 years. There are always a few pages of new posts every time ... this in itself say something about the equality and interest generated here. No other forum I've been to has held my attention longer than a week or less. THAT'S the reason I'm here. Sure there are flareups by some inconsiderate, or even a misunderstood person, but that's life on the internet. I'm an average modeler but always will try something new if it's needed for a specific build, not just to add when not called for. I'm not near as prolific as many here but just enjoy building model cars. I feel very relaxed posting virtually all my works-in-progress because each has a special meaning to me personally (mostly cars I've owned) but I feel there are always parts of the build that others might get something from ... a different bodywork method or a cheap use of a bobby pin in a build. Comments I get are always helpful and encouraging from all levels of builders here ... this is one reason I'm surprised that some feel there is an elitist attitude here .. I find just the opposite.
  18. Very nice! I especially like the treatment of the front side windows.
  19. Probably so you would buy the other VW Beetle kit released at the same time! LOL .. the 1970 Beetle Cabriolet 1970 .. it has the correct bumpers for a U.S. '68.
  20. I agree with Bob .. use plastic and sand/file to shape. If you can't find thick enough plastic layer it and glue together, Use some good clamps to keep it tight white it dries. The shapes aren't that far off square and the hood just needs thickness to give enough to sand. Plastic or metal rod will give you the frame for the top. There are plastic sheets available with diamond plate. Those wheels and tires would throw me. Maybe some kit of small car like a Mini or even a 1/35 scale kit.

    Nicely done!
  22. eheh yes .. I like doing weathering like it's been used .. the way all my cars end up looking. As much as I appreciate a beautiful body, I hare wax! The '53 bug was rolled on it's side three times and we just rolled it back on it's feet .. pulled some fender back out and continued on our way.
  23. I've been waiting a long time for one of these .. you have my order when they go up ...
