  1. Very nice little hinge tutorial there! I'm in the process of doing some smaller pin hinges for a van, but all the same as these long ones and you've given me some ideas. The photos WERE worth a thousand words!
  2. This was a totally enjoyable build to watch! Seeing all your scratch built bits and pieces was an education.
  3. I found a replacement seat for GMC vans that had dimensions, so I'm using the custom seats from the A-Team van and adding some width and shape. They will go to the body shop for some 2 part Bondo and maybe some V-Groove tuck and roll like on the side panels ... at least on passenger side. Driver's seat will need special patterned seat covers. I started making a milk crate which shows in one of the shots of the 1:1 van. Some corner angles, plastic sheet and a grid I happened to have (see photo) should do it .. if I can get it all square! Some semi gloss black should give it a plastic look.
  4. heheh .. you got me humming the song ... I think it's gonna look good! .. little red Corvette, dum de dum dum dum .......
  5. I love the homemade look to this .. the patched panels and dings. The dirt is VERY well done .. looks realistic.
  6. That's a good looking mesh ... nice to be able to actually PLAY with something you made! Rhino is a cool 3D proggie, though I was already well into 3D Studio when Rhino came out, so never got too far with it. I got started in 3D acquiring car meshes and just rendering them ... an extension of my modeling I guess. I got into Poser for awhile and did a lot of modeling there with objects, clothes and body parts and modifications!
  7. holy rollover, Batman! I say DO IT, but don't tell anyone and display it in an iron framed box with a few windows.
  8. I'm with Dave, but this is a '51 Plymouth .. my first car. If they'd make a kit of this I wouldn't have to convert the '50 resin body I have! Aha .. I just looked through my old post and saw you had added to it, Dave. I did save your photos here as reference.
  9. Very nice and creative. The end result looks great!
  10. I want to count the rings on this tree!
  11. Bah! They not only RUIN an Edsel, they SCRATCHED the door!!!
  12. That is just plane looking good!
  13. A very tasteful build. I have some of that One Shot paint in a dark blue for a 49 Merc I have and just spoon shot it today to test. The fineness of the "flakes" is really nice. It did go on smooth and dried fast. I got some Pure Gold of the same and that is spectacular!
  14. Oh my .. that is looking good! Hey, Daniel, do you realize that is all metal!? Glad to see you back and healed. I never imagined you were gonna use metal, but it IS a diecast. Will make it all the more interesting to follow.
  15. I'm assuming it was a raised line. Some small plastic strips may do the job. Triangular or some rectangular that you can sand and reshape after in place are my first thoughts without knowing what they started as. There are some pretty small Evergreen and Plasti-strut shapes.
  16. Places I use: paintscratch.com mcw automotive finishes They sell in quantities suitable for models.
  17. First off Shawn, welcome to the site! That is quite a van going there, VERY unusual! What did you use to cover it? The hinge method is one I've not heard of, but it sounds very good AND economical! I think it's worth posting in our Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials section. I'd love to take you up on the 8 lug wheels as I spent much time hunting for them. I did come to the conclusion that it will be easier to strip the lugs off some 5 bolt ones and add the lugs. I found the 8 lug version are deep dish, if you would confirm, and I'd have to cut and bring them back to shallower ones. Is that true? I DO appreciate the offer, though!
  18. They look good! That's a great theme to do. O wonder where I could find a 5 ton truck?
  19. Thats one great build! I like it in red ... beautiful job on that one!
  20. It looks right ... not sure what's happening. Lemmie try doing it by hand ... hmmmm .. that worked. I just used the clickable link and pasted it in then added the tags. This dowsn't make sense
  21. That looks good! Gonna be some big interior work I see. It will be a blast being one you owned. All the door cutouts look great! It's a shame to let all that work sit, but I do know .. don't ask how many are sitting here waiting for me! I'm hinging the rear doors and plan to use some 1/16 brass tube and brass rod for pins. These were hinged like '32 Fords ... pretty easy hinges to make. Just use a long rod with both hinges on it to get them aligned when gluing. I'm going to attempt it with the center rod and two short rods on the door as the real one is. If that gets too finicky, I'll just use two rod pieces. They do need a small arm off the center rod to attach to the body. Here's a shot showing what I'm talking about:
  22. Your wife apparently agrees on your building talents!
  23. Looks real good! The owner of that one must of had a HUGE options fee for the red on the wheels! But, I'm glad he did .. really sets it apart!
  24. I really like the shorter body. It really flows with muscle from the top.

    2000 SMART Car

Really clean looking build there. The scripts look fantastic! These are neat little cars and I keep eying one at my LHS also! I keep wondering about customs styling themes of the 50's on it! Maybe lowered with the fenders raised on the body. Wonder if a turboed Corvair will fit under the seat? Bah, now you got my mind working ... better check on the last one at the LHS ...!
