  1. This is the difference between an Art Center College of Design degree and us lesser beings. I think Bob has a job with all three!!!
  2. An Alps is nice to have as it can do white and metalic colors. Those are impossible on an ink jet or laser unless you can use white decal paper to get what you need. I have been using my Epson R1800 for decals and it has been doing really well. I had to make some 1/24th model car boxes and everything came out very legible. These are less than a half inch long and you can easily read the kit box main title. I used Photoshop and reduced the images to the size I needed at 1440 dpi. Just be sure to give the ink sufficient time to dry before spraying the over coating. I haven't used a Laserjet for decals, bu the last color laser we had at work would do a fine job I'm sure, thou not quite up to the detail I get on the ink jet. Good luck and show us what you come up with.
  3. You guys are making me sweat. Those tops are flimsy on a 1:1 car, never mind to scale! That is incredible work, Bill ... INCREDIBLE! There HAS to be a fabric that would work, but it seems the right glue that doesn't build up and stiffen everything might be the toughest part to come up with. And, Ragnar! ...You don't still have that Ford do you?? Would LOVE to see some pics if so. That's more amazing considering the materials, or lack thereof, 30 years ago!
  4. That looks fantastic!
  5. Everything is looking good all the way down the line! I got back on my comp coupe and hopefully some updates soon... just got some engine and suspension paint on.
  6. I always thought those were sleek bodies, Can't wait to see where your design goes!
  7. B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L ! All of it just looks just right!
  8. This is looking really great! I'm assuming the back of hood and the grill are just in mockup and are going down so it's all a smooth line. The section ... and NO channel ! ... looks grand and just right. Loving this look!

    Nissan 350Z

Razor sharp build and great lighting. Looks fantastic!
  10. Such a beautiful, thorough design! People will stare forever trying to figure what it is. It looks "stock".
  11. Gregg isn't anal like some other sites and knows we like models from all places. This site I find likable
  12. Nice looking variety and lineup there, And it's the 2001, not XP. XP is what's keeping what speed you have.
  13. I was lucky for 3 weeks on my TR4A before the SU Sync Started going South .. before that, beware Mustangs!
  14. Some great magic going on here . shake it up! Looks fantastic!
  15. hahaha .. I never caught that! Being a born and bred New Englander I can verify that, with the size of Rhode Island, once all the towns are connected with roads, there's more road area than the area between them ... therefore, Road Island!
  16. Absolutely beautiful! The engine detail is just enough and makes it believable. Body is just exquisite. !!
  17. You sure it didn't do a 180? This one's a very effective weathering job!
  18. Bodywork is coming nicely! That windshield sure is gonna be the "job" on this one. Should I Predict OR just sit back and admire? .. I'm admiring.. !
  19. I've eyed those PE blades for years. Guess it's about time to try some. Thanks, Bob, for the the recommendation.
  20. I start the day with a Thanks Dave. I KNEW you were going to say it was practice. "LIGHT" was really the one I was looking for and you defined it well. It's not so much xeroxing your methods as it is totally defining the ways of a great painter so as to develop a style adapts it to yet another student. I first wasted my money 50 years ago on some cans of Pactra Candy Apple wanting a one coat paint job and be done with it! "WET" probably is too LIGHT a word to describe the disastrous results. I have gotten some decent paint jobs since returning 40 years later, but there's always room for improvement. One modeler inspiring another is all we can ask of this hobby and you have answered my question well. ..no photos required. Thanks much!
  21. The only reason I can possibly think of would be the price point. And that I haven't seen yet ..
  22. The engine detail is now LEAPING out at me!!
  23. So, Dave ..... I've been intensely reading all the paint tips you've been posting over the past months and really like what I see. It all seems simple and just common sense. This rings my chimes. Everywhere else I see paint tips that just make it seem a chore and more of a chemistry lesson! True, it IS all chemistry, but I don't want to have to build a model of the molecules just to spray some paint. But now I'm gonna pin you down and give you a really difficult one to word an answer to. This has bugged me forever as every paint instruction I've ever seen has used pretty much similar terms with no explanation. Maybe it's just because the words are pretty simple ones and everyone SHOULD know the meanings in the 2nd grade, but not necessarily with respect to painting. What I'm getting at is the definition of LIGHT, MEDIUM AND HEAVY coats. Seems pretty simple. I'm not completely dumb on this, but I'd really love your take on it. Maybe a photo of a LIGHT paint application would help. (I know you only have a 15 minute window to get a shot. ) This IS not an easy thing to put into words, but any attempt you could make would be appreciated. .. you can even capitalize it all if you like..
  24. I joined after this thread was going and this is my first see of it. That's an unusual car.. and pretty cool looking. I'm amazed you found a body for it ... at ANY scale! It seems like it's not a bad masking job to get that paint scheme. I'd say just use the blue tape if you're getting good results. IMO, Tamiya is the best masking tape, but it IS expensive stuff! This will be unique for sure when done.
  25. VERY nice! Great detailing on that and the "snap on rack" ... awesome!
