Thanks. That's what I was afraid of.

In the last frame, he mentions doing the inner bed later. Was there a tutorial for that? I can't find any mention on the site you referenced.

This all sounds a lot like when the big block V8 died as a car option. A lot of the same arguments were made, and now we have standard run of the mill small block V8s putting out more rated HP than any big block performance option ever did. The performance automotive industry survived the loss of the big block, and it will survive the loss of the V8.

1:200 is becoming a popular ship scale now; there are several commercial figures and other accessories available in that scale. Of course, most figures are sailors, but they're available and worth looking at. Photoetched railings are available, too. One popular website is freetimehobbies.com , but there are others.

What did you see on the road today?
SSNJim replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I saw a 1986 or so Pontiac Grand Prix 2+2 - the glass back one. I haven't seen one of those since they were new. -
What non-auto model did you get today?
SSNJim replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
That is one of my recent acquisitions, a 1/72 Minicraft B24J. My wife's father was a bombardier on the B24H Chiquita Mia which went down in Hungary in 1944. It should be an interesting build to recreate the plane. It has been fascinating to research the plane and crew. I also picked up an HO Athearn Southern GP40X high nose the other day. -
1/25 scale conversion chart
SSNJim replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I like that it converts sheet metal and wire gauges to scale. It's easy enough to convert 6", but having a handy chart to go from 10 ga to scale size is great. Thanks! -
Caprice and Crown Victoria Interior Colors
SSNJim replied to av405's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Most police Crown Victorias (popularly known as P71 or CVPI) seem to have the denim colored interior. I think Testors intermediate blue was a pretty good match. It has a FS number, so you should be able to find it in other brands. I don't remember a two tone dash on my 97. Lots of documentation out there on P71s. Crownvic.net would be a good starting point. -
Has that Revell Crown Victoria come out yet?
SSNJim replied to English Jules's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The most recent issue of the diecast Testors 2007 CV police car kit had a front bumper with fog lights, and an upscale interior. If you came up with a Mercury grille, wheels and some way to put the "Marauder" on the rear bumper, it would make a pretty convincing Marauder. Here's a review of the kit; notice the common Marauder theme in it: http://crownvicsetc.blogspot.com/p/review-of-testors-2007-crown-vic-police.html -
The only real problem to me looks like the hood. Figure out what size it should be, grab a small ruler or tape measure, and head to your local drug store/grocery store. Go through the aisle with all the deodorants, potions, lotions, make-up and other stuff, and look for a lid that matches your hood. Heck, check the blister packs, too. The vacuum formed plastic may have something useful. There's bound to be something there you can use. Look in the toy aisle, too. There may be a hot wheels or small scale off road truck that matches your wheels/tires. Failing that, there's another technique similar to vacuforming called plunge molding. Carve a piece of wood to resemble your hood, heat a piece of plastic, and force it over the wood. Airplane guys use the technique all the time to create canopies and the like. Once you have the hood and tires, it's all downhill from there. The rest is just creating boxes and rounding edges.

20 years later and everything fits in your pocket
SSNJim replied to slusher's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
There must be some kind of market for them; I was in Radio Shack the other day (it was an accident, I swear! ), and found what I would consider to be a transistor radio in stock, even though this one has that new-fangled FM gadget: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3705831 I was surprised, to say the least. -
Revell Germany new VW Golf (Rabbit for you guys)
SSNJim replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
What's the difference between this and the one that was out earlier? I remember the Valvoline racer and a stock version. Is this a reissue? -
Parking Fun , You know it makes you mad.
SSNJim replied to Greg Myers's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I like people who park like that. There's always room for my motorcycle to fit in the space left over. -
All right! According to the article, I can use my SX64 as a web server. Now to dig up my serial cables....
-
I've still got a Commodore SX64. It is Y2K compliant, but I haven't found a web browser to work with my 300 baud modem. Love my Commodore.

My Honda Goldwing motorcycle just had a second recall issued for the same problem the first recall was supposed to fix. The fix (for a dragging rear brake that could cause a fire) didn't work as well as it should have, and Honda has another fix for it. My bike hasn't had any issues so far, but is part of the recall. Pretty cool to have your recall recalled.

Oh, boy! The Warren Tope Mustang! I'm pretty excited. It's been reissued a couple of times, but not with the decals.

Apparently, the discussion isn't about models; it's about toys. Shouldn't this discussion be in Off-Topic?

Do japanese makers re-release old kits ?
SSNJim replied to Young iron's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've seen the Jeep Cherokee on shelves in the last year or so. I know Tamiya has reissued both the Countach LP400 and Porsche 961 recently too. -
Don't sell the cheap Chinese RC 918 short. It is a very well detailed car with a detailed interior, including dash gauges. You can see the brake calipers through the wheel spokes (unfortunately they spin with the wheel). It is almost indistinguishable from a model car - in fact better built and detailed than your typical Tamiya curbside model. There is no visible antenna. I'll try and get some pictures up tomorrow.

The name "Intelligent Whale" is not without precedence: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligent_Whale Not the greatest name for a car, though it's OK for a submarine. I wonder if she knew her submarine history, or if she just randomly put words together. It would be pretty cool to be driving a 2014 Utopian Turtletop though, preferably the GT model.
