It's a Rolls Royce Griffon. That's an Allison sitting in front of the boat. Little similarity between the two.

Sources for Horn Toad or Red Barron like engine?
SSNJim replied to aurfalien's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Another more exotic looking six cylinder is the one in the Revell Datsun 240Z kits. Most versions have Webers included IIRC. You'd be on your own for the funky exhausts, though. -
Here's a website for you to check out: http://dieseldetailer.proboards.com/ . Lots of information on detailing diesel locomotives and parts. I would imagine that someone on there would have the parts you are looking for.

That makes three of us - you and me too. STS1(SS).

For those of you near Baltimore, it is supposed to be there soon. Zumwalt has left Newport, RI to come to Baltimore where it will be commissioned on Oct 15. I haven't been able to find an arrival date in Baltimore yet. I'm hoping they'll give tours.

Mine had the same mold lines on the pillars - a few seconds with some 320 grit sandpaper got rid of them. I was planning on BMF for the headlights, but I'm not sure how that is going to work out yet. I think you'll be able to see the body color through the clear parts of the taillights, so probably the same for them.
-
I picked one up yesterday, too. The body, unlike the AMT 2010 and other Camaros, has the hood and front and rear fascias molded to the body. The window surrounds are pre-painted, and it has separate windshield wipers. Two identical appearing decals and sticker sheets are included, which have a pair of black stripes for hood and trunk along with the various gauges and emblems. The brake rotors include caliper detail, and they are mounted so that they don't rotate. The wheels are mounted using the trusty steel axles. It has a nice platform interior. The kit is molded in 3 colors - red, black, and gray, plus my favorite color, clear. The taillights are molded in clear, and pre-painted red in what I assume are the appropriate places. Only the wheels, interior rear view mirror and I assume it's the rear license plate are chrome. Looks like I'll have to break out the BMF for the outside rear view mirrors. It seems to be a pretty nice kit. I haven't found anything to complain about so far, even though I wish the hood and fascias were separate. Looking forward to building this one.

Unfortunately, Revell paints are not sold in the US so I can't make a comparison. I have found the Tamiya paints don't work as well for brushing as, say, Testors. Tamiya metallic colors do seem to work pretty well for me. I've been using other than Tamiya for most brush painting.

Found a frontal view. I think I like it.... Google "chopped purple Riviera" for more...

This I would like to see more of. I don't think I've ever seen one of these chopped. Very different looking - I like this angle.

When did color fall out of favor?
SSNJim replied to Lunajammer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I saw a couple of cars over the past week that had that metallic finish you would see on some of the snap kits and other toy cars targeted towards younger kids. They weren't quite as shiny, but quite eye-catching. You certainly won't get lost in the crowd. After a bit of Googling, I found it is called chrome wrap. Apparently it's a fairly new thing. -
What predictions can we make for new kit releases in 2017?
SSNJim replied to GMP440's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I'd rather see the 2016 Trallfazz Belchfire 500. Bet they would sell a million of 'em! -
Lets See Some Muscle Bikes (banana seat bikes)
SSNJim replied to ProStreetOnTheStrip's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
When did these become "muscle bikes"? I've heard them called Stingrays, banana seat bikes, 20 inchers and other things, but never muscle bike. I was a pre-teen or teen during the years these were popular. I never had one (I had a 26 inch 3 speed), but my brother and many of my friends did. -
Airbag recall... giant PITA!
SSNJim replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I got three recall notices on my 2007 V6 Mustang - there was a temporary fix for the driver side (done), a permanent fix for the driver (awaiting parts), and the new passenger side recall. -

I don't remember them being on a baguette, but it's hard to tell after it comes out of a panini press, especially after 26 years. I'll check into that. Thanks for the lead, Bill!

Maybe the Europeans here know about these sandwiches we got in Toulon in the 90s. They were cheeseburgers with fries between the bread or buns, and pressed in a panini grill. They were bread - burger - cheese - fries - bread. They were great, and we called them smashed burgers. Never found out the real name, and haven't seen them since. Most of them came from street vendors - I don't remember seeing them in cafes. Any one know of these?

Model Master 8872C is what I use. It seems to be a little thick, and has a good working time. It comes in a baseball diamond shaped bottle with a long thin applicator. The Model Master version has a metal applicator, and the Testors version has a plastic one. Same cement, different bottles - I prefer the metal.

There's a small up and coming chain in the DC area called Elevation Burgers that I really like. Their cheese and milkshakes are superb. For burgers, it's a toss-up between them and a single restaurant in Front Royal, VA called Spelunker's. Jersey Mike's is my choice for subs - I love their bread. I like the macaroni and cheese pizza at Cici's, too. There's still a few Roy Rogers left in the DC area. I rarely eat there, thought

Revell vs. Aoshima Datsun 720, any reccomendations?
SSNJim replied to oldcarfan's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
The Revell is a full detail kit, with an engine and 4 wheel drive. The Aoshima is a lowered curbside 4WD. Both have the flares molded to the body. The kits have nothing in common other than the subject matter. -
What did you see on the road today?
SSNJim replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I saw a late model Chevy van with what appeared to be a Cadillac Escalade front end on it today on I-95 near the MD-DE border. Only got a glimpse of it since he was southbound and I was northbound. -
Lindberg and Revell Snap Tite Police Cars - Same Model?!?!
SSNJim replied to Drake69's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
They are not the same bodies, and are quite a bit different. The Lindberg represents a P71 (Police Interceptor) with the proper side moldings (no chrome strips), and does not have the seams that continue from the front fender to the headlights, nor does it have the separate strip in the C pillar. The Revell is a P73/P74 (Crown Victoria/LX), and has the proper "civilian" side moldings with the chrome strips, and has the aforementioned seams and correct strip in the C pillar. Despite.the markings and light bars, it's the same car Aunt Matilda would drive. Yes, the "cop hubcaps" were available on the lower line Crown Victorias sold to the public. Overall, I think the Revell body shell is better. -
At least it wasn't initially issued 40 years ago, updated for a couple of years, converted into a show rod, some of the molds lost and recreated, converted back to stock, reissued a couple of times and finally in the Q3 announcements with a celebrity endorsement as "All New Tooling!" Besides, the washing machine kit is 1/2" too short, the window in the door is not domed enough, the drain hose is mounted at the top, and decals are included for only one color variation.

It wasn't missed. It's Euro spec, so there are more than a few differences from the US model. It doesn't have the hood "power bulge"; only cars with a certain size engine or larger (2.3L?) got it in Europe, but all US models did. There are many other differences between this kit and the 1973 Capri I had. I'm considering converting mine to US spec (head and tail lights, grille, quarter panel trim, power bulge for starters). It is also motorized, This kit is Doyusha NH-18.
