  1. Dremel, and no doubt other manufacturers, have 3 jaw chucks available that will fit the Dremels and similar tools. The one I have didn't work on my Stylus, but it does on my bigger corded and cordless tools. Dremel says theirs will do 1/32" to 1/8" shanks, but it seems to me mine goes a little larger. I do use my Dremels for things other than plastic, too. https://www.dremel.com/en_US/products/-/show-product/accessories/4486-dremel-chuck
  2. I'm not so sure about that. The annual kits were for exactly that - building a model of the latest cars that were offered in the days when new car introductions were a big deal. I remember saving my lunch money for the brand new MPC 1976 Dodge pickup kit and the 1975 Pinto. Back in those days, a 55 Chevy was just an old car, just like a 1997 Honda Civic is now. By the way, has anyone else noticed the Revell Build and Play 2018 Mustang out now? Similar in parts layout to the 2015 Mustang, it's got the new spoiler, new wheels and body. I had a blast building it.
  3. Few of my models have a complete engine, if they have one at all. I don't see the need for one in a shelf model. Some have just the lower part and headers so that it looks right underneath the car.
  4. No one has mentioned this, but Revell of Germany has a 108' modern yacht. Somebody did a build on this forum; great looking model. If you're interested in pleasure craft, it fits. If you're interested in only 1/24 or 1/25 pleasure craft, sorry. The only "drawback" is it is 1/72 scale, and 17.5 inches long. It would go well with my 52" long Gato submarine.... I've recently become more interested in 1/72 scale - lots of neat stuff in that scale. http://www.revell.com/germany/ships/80-5145.html#.WVrkUZdK11Q
  5. I wasn't sure about exotics; the most exotic (i.e. not made in the USA) car I've ever owned was a 1973 Capri. I have seen the brakes and assisted in repairs on a few Japanese cars, though.
  6. I thought most road cars had black splash shields on the inboard side of the brakes so you wouldn't be able to see much, if any, of the brakes. Maybe some of the calipers, but that's it.
  7. I believe Citroen did at the time. There was a "little brother" to the Bora called the Merak which had more Citroen influence. It had a Citroen V-6 and a flat rear hood with flying buttresses instead of the Bora configuration. I think the Citroen pieces were out of one of the large SM cars. Testors released curbside 1/24 Merak and Merak SS kits.
  8. Airfix did release a 1/24 Bora also. I'm not sure who released it initially, but it is supposed to be a reissue of another manufacturer's kit.
  9. Very cool. One of my favorite Italian supercars - just gorgeous. I didn't know about the Revell kit; I only knew about the MPC and Airfix. I've got an MPC in progress. It's almost to the final assembly stage, but there are some body flaws I need to fix - some self-inflicted, some built in that I missed. What are you going to do about the stainless steel roof? I haven't decided how to deal with it yet. Here's a pretty good site mainly concerned with Maseratis: http://www.thecarnut.com/maseratimanuals.html There's lots of documentation, including paint chips and various manuals. I'll be following along on your build.
  10. I need to get out more. That's a real shame. Piper's was a nice shop, and it's been a long time since I was there. I live in MD, and don't get out that way much since I no longer work in Chantilly. About all that's left here is a local chain called Hobby Works (there's one in Fairfax in a mall at 236 and Pickett Road).
  11. Except in parking lots, one way streets, industrial areas....
  12. It certainly looks like it. That is a beautiful paint job. What is the deal with the bed floor? Have you just not applied the decal, or is that the final finish? I guess the real question is, what is the bed floor finish on a factory original 56? I can't imagine Ford installing flawlessly finished shellacked flooring with chrome strips on the cheapest vehicles they made. I've been trying to remember and research without much luck.
  13. Interestingly enough, they are still available. They typically are mounted to the fender lips, and are a spring type device. Here's a video of them being installed on a 90's Buick :
  14. I don't think anyone has posted a black Foose truck yet. There is another on here that is green. I'm not doing mine in black - not quite sure of the color yet, but black's not an option. Is anyone actually planning on building this truck in black?
  15. Still waiting for the 1/72 scale SSN 637 class....
  16. Just saw the 280ZX on the shelf today at my LHS (along with the RX7 they've had for a couple of weeks), but not at Hobby Lobby. Hobby Lobby did have the Foose pickup that my LHS still hasn't gotten.
  17. I have a set of photo-etched saw blades, but I don't know what brand - I don't use them much. I picked them up at my LHS when they had them on the pegboard. My go-to saw is an Exacto #1 knife with an Excel #13 saw blade. The blades are pretty easily available. http://shop.excelblades.com/p/13-fine-saw-blade-5-pcs-1 I have a Zona-type saw, coping saw, hacksaw, Dremel saws, and others, but the #13 is my favorite. Much stiffer than a photo-etched blade, not much thicker (about #11 blade thickness) and easy to use.
  18. My first job was working in an orange juice factory, but I got canned: couldn't concentrate.
  19. I haven't bought any car models from them, but I have bought a few submarine models (SSN594/637/637 stretch, two of each). It was a pleasure to do business with them.
  20. The Ollie's in Jessup had the 90/91 LX Mustang, 99 Mustang SVT, Speedwagon, Sox & Martin GTX, VW Rabbit, Ivo's Showboat, SW&C Willys, Hayes T-Bird, Dodge VTS Ram, Jukebox Ford, and others, along with the generous supply of older Lindberg kits. Nice selection.
  21. I was wondering how you were masking this. There's no sign of masking materials in the pictures, and I can't imagine taping off the whole car each time you change colors. I do very few multicolor paint jobs. Very nice work. Looking forward to seeing the results.
  22. I have a similar one. When I click on the last read post button (the dot to the left of the topic title), it may take me to page 4 of 5. I read page 4 and go to page 5. When I click back to try to get back to the index, it won't change pages. It will usually go back if I don't change pages (4 to 5). In that case, I generally right click on the back button. It will present a list of the pages I've recently viewed in order. I select the page I want to go to, and it works. The reason I say the page I want to go to is that there is often advertising links between the pages I choose, and I may have to skip them. I use IE11 as my browser.
  23. I lay awake at night thinking how awful it would be to suffer from insomnia. ===== A quick guide on how to fall downstairs: Step 1 Step 6 Steps 8, 10, 11, 12, 13 ===== I bought a pair of shoes from a drug dealer. I don’t know what he laced them with but I’ve been tripping all day. ===== Just heard that a woman is on trial for beating her husband to death with his guitar collection. The judge asked, "First offender?" She says, "No, first a Gibson, then a Fender!" ===== Life was so much simpler before I got married, I mean who'd have thought there was a wrong way of putting the milk back in the fridge?
  24. Signs I've seen on hobby shop doors: Unattended children will be sold. Unattended children will be given an espresso and a free puppy.
