Beautiful plumage! -
Agree, modern. For me, the "Molded in Red" is a dead giveaway. In the last few years, AMT has been molding certain hobbyist oriented kits in both white and a color, and labeling the boxes as appropriate. I've seen the 70-1/2 Camaro in white and orange, the 1984 GMC pickup in black and white, the 1965 Grand Prix in white and green, and they all have similar labels. Before that, you got whatever color was in the box - sometimes the box would say molded in whatever color, but that was the only choice.

W.T. Grant's was a mid-range department store until the mid-70's. I do remember buying a few kits there, though it was just at the beginning of my model building. Nice stores.

I was at a NASCAR-sanctioned short track years ago, and they decided to run the Late Model Stocks clockwise for one heat. The track management claimed there was no rule that said they HAVE to run CCW, so they turned the starting grid around on the spot, and ran a race clockwise that counted for points/qualifying. It was pretty amazing. They didn't handle so well (lots of tire smoke from the RR tire, and way out of shape) and a bit slower, but no serious problems.

It's been done - at least twice. Count Rossi, the guy who sponsored the Martini & Rossi Porsche teams, had one in the 70's, and apparently another has been licensed in Monaco. Google "Rossi street 917" for more details.

Thanks for the rear seat pictures and ideas, guys! I just picked up a Tamiya 911GT3, and the instructions say to just place the supplied carpet over the seats to hide the seats. That doesn't seem right to me. I haven't made it to that point yet, but this will be a big help. Now to go get the tub out of the box, and the instructions....

Calling "Cobraman"
SSNJim replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Apparently a guy named Pierre Tissier modified a lot of Citroens into commercial vehicles, this being one of them. This is one of the results found on a Google search for "citroen auto transporter meilen", then selecting images and scrolling through them until I found a picture of it. https://oppositelock.kinja.com/cars-you-didnt-know-about-the-citroen-made-by-tissie-1203864111 He did/does some interesting conversions. I don't know if he is still in business. This particular one was probably built around 1970. One more: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Citroën_DS_Tissier_automobile_transporter_(Meilenwerk) Searching for "tissier citroen" comes up with pretty cool resources. -
1/25 AMT '94 Ford F-150 Lightning Pickup
SSNJim replied to Casey's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Interesting - someone must have gone out and edited all the Google pictures . It's strange I don't remember ever seeing a F-150 badge on a Lightning. I drove one in 1994, and knew a couple of owners, and I just don't remember them. I stand corrected on that. I'm assuming by HD you mean heavy duty. -
Perfect! I've been looking for that one for a while. Thanks!

All it needs is a whoooo whoooo or two. Of course, when my radio starts playing country, I take it in to be fixed.

Was at the Ollie's in Jessup, MD. They had a few 1994 Camaro convertibles and 60 Corvettes. Still lots of Lindberg kits; picked up the Monitor/Merrimack diorama kit.

What did you see on the road today?
SSNJim replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The front suspension is too high. Can't Revell ever get it right? Just kidding. Nice car. -
Number one looks like a 67/68 Thunderbird.
-
On my older snap kit, I found some short screws about the same diameter as the axle and short enough to fit into the wheel back, and used those to replace the front metal axle. Of course, you'll have the screw heads to deal with, but a bit of paint will minimize them. Attach the wheels to the suspension before attaching the suspension to the body - I used glue on the suspension to body attachment to be on the safe side. I also removed the front fenders and both bumpers, which made a pretty decent looking rod.

Scale size?
SSNJim replied to KBryan67's topic in WIP: All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
You might want to check out freetimehobbies.com . I'm just a satisfied customer. They have a lot of ship accessories. -
Welcome aboard! Love these cars and kits. I must have at least a dozen kits laying around. This is the first time I've seen this box, though. Is it a 89-91 or 92? The taillights on the early ones have a flat top edge; the 92 has a top edge that curves downward to the license plate area. I had a full-size 92 for a few years - what a great car. Another resource for the car is the Super Coupe Club of America at sccoa.com . Oh by the way, if you see the Revell Lowrider version of the SC, don't turn your nose up at it. It is the regular 92 SC kit molded in white with additional decals and a bag of lowrider wheels and tires. You can build any version of 3 (stock, custom/aero, and lowrider). Still haven't used any of the lowrider parts.

I typically use JB Weld for my major jobs (chops, sections and so on), and Tamiya putty for the minor ones and final smoothing.

In the late 70's, I had a 1973 Capri with a manual 4 speed. Fun car. I came home one time, and hopped in my parent's 1969 Thunderbird. This particular car had a brake pedal so wide it seemed to take up all the space between the gas pedal and parking brake. I pulled out of the parking spot, got it into drive, and started down the street. All was going well until, out of habit, I stepped on the "clutch" at about 15mph. That T-Bird came to a stop right now - I think the front splash panel hit the ground. Of course, my mom was watching.... No damage done, just embarrassed.

Sorry, not me. There's no beer in that clip.
-
I dunno. I remember one Pizza Hut in Mission Beach that was pretty awesome in 1977/78. Full menu, waitress service, table cloths, beer, and the whole 9 yards. The pizza was very good. They weren't particularly special; all Pizza Huts were that way. We did eat at that particular Pizza Hut quite a bit.

The NHRA is not a fan of Street Outlaws.

That was supposed to be a sarcastic response to the previous comment, not a real suggestion. -
Even less shelf space for models at HobbyTown?
SSNJim replied to HomerS's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
That should work out well for both parties.
