  1. After speaking with Joe Wheat from Wheats Nostalgia about how the chassis should be done, I repainted it the same color as the interior, To make it look more accurate , But the 70 Toronado Promo I was told was never done in the "Burnished Gold" So now I have a one of a kind promo, I enjoyed restoring this, I have been keeping myself from foiling the car though, I'll see how long that lasts, I also found a kit front bumper in better shape I'm waiting on to replace the one on there now, I'll put that one on for display untill I can get the other one repaired and send the bumpers and wheels out to be replated. Here's a look at the chassis.
  2. Outside photo with better lighting,
  3. So did I, But the car was so scratched up, It looked like it was ran across cement on its roof . I'm happy with the color I used, The paint I used on this is over 20 years old, I have a quart of the stuff. It was giving to me by my cousin when he still worked painting real cars, I just poured some in a jelly jar, half way, Then thinned it half way, Oh by the way everything was painted around 4 o'clock today, And snapped back together just before the photos were taking, Ah I love my airbrush with my fast drying thinner.
  4. This is what I started with, It was Orange, And in really bad shape, I stripped it, Did some body work, Then repainted everything, The Colors I went with were '1970 Oldsmobile Burnished Gold,With the One Coat Testors Clear, With A Gold interior, Also 1970 GM real car paint. I did no detailing at all,I also blacked out the chassis, Like the 71-75 Jo-Han Olds promos were made, Mine was gray, I wanted to go for the promo look, On to the photos, Enjoy.
  5. I understand what you are saying, Those are the people you want to stay away from, Personally I tried casting just a hood a few years ago, Out of 20 hoods, I got 2 that were usable, You do get people like that , They will take you money very quickly, Then make you wait, That is why I only deal with people that have good reputations, As I stated in my last post, And if you do have to call him up again, Do it, When I met him at that show, I didn't trust him that much then, Then when I wanted that Skylark replaced at first he told me no, Well after an argument with the guy, I got it , There was no way I was paying that much for damaged stuff. Back to your issue, Him ignoring you is rediculous. I cannot believe why anyone would want to treat customers like that, Get your money back for it if you payed for it online, I would love to get another one of those 68 Skylarks from him, But , My past run ins with them tells me not to order from them. I will however stand up for the other resin casters , Most of these fairly unknown ones will eventually burry themselves buy poor customer sevice, And late shippments, And the worst thing you can ever do is be rude to your customers, That is so not how to run a business at all. I feel bad that you're being treated this way my friend, But we have all been there at one time or another, I've had it done to me also, But what can you do, If the person doesn't care about his customers, That's like shooting yourself in the foot, As things go full circle, Us as buyers, Help, And keep alot of these companys stay around, But we also don't need to be getting ripped of in the process , There that old saying don't bite the hand that feeds you, I hope you didn't get bit, But there is a chance. Plus the more customers he loses, The less money he can make, To develope new kits and such, And if it has to do with the Hobby Shop he recently opened up, I bet he sells that stuff he casts there to those that want it,First, Thats just a thing that just came to mind also. If you don't get your stuff within the next few weeks, Then take further action. Ask for the payment back, And never deal with them again, If he refuses or ignores you, Turn him into the Better Business Bureau for fraud. That will get his attention. I personally do not or will not be taking advantage of by anyone I buy from. I learned to be somewhat ruthless. To protect myself from getting ripped off.
  6. One thing to point out is, The time of flashing out All for the parts for shipment, Imagine have to do 20-25 Complete kits a day, That would drive most people nuts. But these guys continue to do it for us. I understand waiting ALONG time isn't acceptable, But 6-8 Weeks is fair to wait, Anything after that, Then I would contact them to find out about what you purchased. And if you don't feel ok with sending money to the person, Simply just don't. Stick with the people with good reputations and you see in the magazines . Or have had good reveiws on the forums.
  7. The only thing I ever bought from Perry's Resin was a 68 Skylark GS around 10 years ago at the Toledo Show, I had a friend pick me one up, When he showed it to me, I went right back over to His table, And told him I wanted it replaced, The vents were cracked, And the chrome was flaking off, That was back when he actually plated his parts, That was the first issue I had, Then I ordered a set of 67 Firebird seats from him for the annual I had, Well here it is 10 years later, And I never seen the parts, So I sold the 67 Firebird also, This was before the 68 came out, I wanted to use all of the original MPC parts, I also remember another issue I had with a caster, I ordered a 71 Cutlass conversion kit, For the Jo-Han 70, That was in '98 I NEVER seen those parts. I won't mention the name , But you need to watch exactly who you order from, I will deal with about 5-6 Different Resin Casters,Thats it. As far as the "UnReliable" I have always got my stuff with in a few weeks. You guys have to realize, These people do have lives outside of the hobby industry. Yes I think we all have been done wrong at one time , But running people into the ground all the time isn't cool, Wait untill these people get sick of it,And stop casting stuff, Then when you want to build that certain project, It's no longer available. Lets give these Resin casters a break, Alot of you have NO idea what is involved with the Time and cost of producing resin kits and parts, The Rubber alone to make the molds alone would break most people,Same with the Resin, They have to buy this stuff in bulk,Either travel to pick the stuff up,Or have the stuff shipped to them, How do I know this, I know R&R Personally, I have been inside his shop, and have seen what is involved, It is just him making masters ,Making Molds, And his wife pouring the resin, And do you have any idea how much time is involved just cleaning bumpers for plating? I was out to his shop one day, He handed me a box of bumpers, And said here get to work while you're here. I got a couple of kits from him for it, But it took me about 3 hours to do. Alot of these people are doing this stuff alone. Give these guys a break.
  8. I second that , Missing Links stuff is right up there with The Modelhaus, Quality Wise. And the Photoetch stuff is Better the Model Car Garage, No runners to cut the emblems and such off , Get one and you will be very happy with it, I have been with everything I have got from them.
  9. I got these kits this month, The Original 70 442 Annual, 3 of the reissues, all molded in different colors, And a 70 Toronado promo, That was orange, But the paint was so scratched up I had to strip it, I'll be repainting the car and making a curbside build out of it, I also ordered everything I needed from The Modelhaus to make a 71 and 72 442 Or Cutlass out of 2 of the reissues . And the decals to make the Rallye 350 out of one of them, And a set of the Cady decals for the 70-72 442's for the W-31 Decals to use on the 2 revell Convertibles I have painted,
  10. I also forgot one The Jo-han "75" Cutlass Snap Kit, the front of the car looks NOTHING like the real car at all, They should have stopped while they were ahead And left the car a 73, The 74 is almost as bad. The 73 was perfect in my eyes. the other 2 years, Junk, Some one needs to make the proper headerpanel, Grills and Correct Front bumper up soon for the new release of the kit. That is the only Jo-Han kit I have ever seen that was a complete mess.
  11. How can anyone miss the AMT 72 Nova? The Very first issue was ok, I own 2 of them, And the Ventura also, But when the were first made in the Black plastic issue, '83 0r so, The mold was broke From waht I have heard, And they fixed it, Then repopped that kit so many times they finally had to discontinue it permanently, Thats why we never got the 71-72 Ventura reissued back in 2004, They were both based on the same mold, Just different inserts, That kits a pile of overpriced junk also, If any of you have the Nova molded in white,Compare it to one of the newer issues of the kit. Pay close attention to the driverside rear quarter panel at the bodyline and roof area. A one piece body would have been great for that Ventura, You should of seen the look on my face when I bought that thing for $90,And opened up the box, to see what it looked like inside, If anyone wants to build that car Get the resin kit from Flintstone, And save your money.
  12. Yes the story is true, I helped him on the Force 440 when I was 7 years old, He built model untill he went totally blind, in '92. He bought me my very first glue kit the year I was born, It was a MPC 73 Duster. I used to go over his house every weekend when I was a kid, Slam together my models, Untill he helped me get better. I lost my uncle back in '94 , Basically everything I build know is stuff I built as a kid, Only better, I still remember the paint and glue smells from his hobby room he had set up, I'm glad to see such a great restoration on that car that ment so much to me when I was a kid. I sound mushy, But it brings back so many great memories for me just seeing the before photos. He was my mentor. Thanks for sharing the car again Chuck. Take care of it for me.
  13. I personally would raise the rear up alittle more, And use some big and little aluminum slots on it for wheels, with some funky pinstripes, Thats how alot of those vans were made up like back then. Cool project,I'll be watching.
  14. What ever you do Don't mention someone making a 74 Dodge Monaco kit, Thats a big no no one here, You can't forget the 68 LTD Missing Link just brought out. And the 72 Ford 4-door modelhaus makes.
  15. Wow Very nice paint, detailing, Very clean build.
  16. That is the chassis that is in the kit, I sprayed it with Black Primer, Taped off the gas tank, and mufflers, Sprayed them with the testors metalizer steel,For the gas tank, And aluminum for the mufflers. The pipes are hand painted steel, The Color is automotive Lacquer That I had mixed up, The color had different names for it, Example, Gulfstream Blue ,For Buick, Oldsmobile called it Astro Blue . I payed $15 for 4 onces of it , Back when I could still get it locally, I mixed the entire 4 onces with the right amount of thinner, And for what I spent , You can get about 6 to 7 cars painted with it, Plus it goes on smooth, I used one heavy coat of the Testor's one coat clear lacquer on it, Then rubbed it out with polishing compound.. Now I need to find another set of the AMT 69 Wheels to replace the ones I used for this car.
  17. Here is the underhood shot, I don't want to risk breaking the tabs to remove the hood.
  18. The steering wheel spokes were done with alcad, And the dash was drybrush detailed, The interior in these kits have hardly any side details at all, So I left it alone. I think it turned out nice for 3 days work.
  19. The Wheels are from the 69 442
