This is built from the Jo-Han USA Oldies Kit, I painted the body, Chassis , Interior ,and Engine all the same day, The hardest part was the BMF , There is alot on this car. All the Paint was shot through an airbrush. Enjoy.

A few questions for Johan fans from IMC

How did you guess, It's a 70 though. Mines molded in that blue-green color, with the barcode, So mines from the 80's the 70's didn't have the barcodes on them. -
I can't wait to see the Cutlass, I'll buy a few, I just wish they would have fixed the bumper and grill area, It looks more like a 74 in the front, Overall though a very nice edition to see back. I see endless possibilitys for the kit.
-
The bumper is the same, No modifications at all, It's just the lighting , These kits have the seperate clear lenses, The grills be it the 442, Or the ones that I made are seperate parts, I used the original issue 69 442 by MPC/ERTL, For this car, If I remember the only annual 69 442 made was by Jo-Han, the only difference in the Cutlass , Cutlass S ,And the 442 was the grills, Only on the 442, And engine sizes. My friends 69 Cutlass S he owned had a 455 out of a 70 Toronado in it, There was also the W-31 Olds, those were basicly the Cutlass set up like the 442, The only difference was the 350 in it, The 400 was in the 442, But anything was possible back then. There may have been a 350 powered 442 back then, I know in 72 they had one. For the emblems ,I'll be using the excellent Missing Link Photoetch set. ,I would like to make this with a single exhaust also, But I can't remember what side it ran out the back on.

Here is another photo of the front of the car, And the Olds 350, I used Duplicolor "Buckskin" Metallic for the color, it has a touch of a bronze shading in the gold, Which according to my refference photos is the proper color, The 400's were a color called "Rame Metallic" That color is a reddish bronze color, The 455's were red, Starting in 1970, Those were Olds engine blue, The 350's were the same color gold I used up untill around 75 or 76.

For those of you that have been trying to figure out how, Here is how, I used the handle from a disposable razor . I measured the correct slats , Cut and filed them to shape, Painted them with Black primer, And used BMF for the chrome. So if anyone is interested in making a 68-69 Cutlass, Or Cutlass S out of any of the kits and resin kits out, Here is the way to make the grills, The razors can be found at various drug stores, You just have know what to look for , Mine was molded in Blue, I also seen the same pattern on a pack of womens razors molded in pink.

Nice Save, I hope you didn't pay a mint for that, I have found alot of really bad builtups on there. I had to completely rebuild the window area on my AMT 69 El Camino back window , I payed $75 for the thing back 4 years ago. Looks good so far.

This is a no brainer, The 70-72 Olds 442'S And the Toronados.. Those would fit perfectly in with the Revell Convertibles . For us Oldsmobile Fans. The reissued 70 They had out originally was in fact the 72 442 with the 70 hood and chrome tree. Thats why the interior patterns were wrong in those kits. I just recently found the 70 kit For $35 Sealed, And the Revell front and rear bumpers fit , The hood is alittle wide on both sides, But it's an easy fix, But the grill is wrong for the Cutlass,And Culass S version of the 72. They had a different pattern for those cars, I would Love to see all 3 years of those Kit I mentioned reissed. I would buy atleast 4 of each years. -
1/25 AMT '76 Gremlin X 2n1 coming from Round 2
spkgibson replied to SteveG's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Really? Who is going to be making it, And what years? I know the Machine is a 70, But is someone making the 67-69 Body style? I own the 69, And 2 of the 70 Machines. What they really need to make is the 1971 Matador "Machine" They made around 50 of them in 71. They looked exactly like a stock 71 Matador 2 door hardtop, But the had the "Machine" decals on them, Just the name, Not the stripes. That would be a cool one for anyone to do, As it was such a rare car. This kit i'll buy for sure. I had all 3 years of them at one time, The 74-76. Also this is the last year for both this front end style,And Taillights, The 77 on up looked like the Concord in the front. -

This thing is cool, Nice bodywork, Just a suggestion for you, To level out the roof area better,So it doesn't droop, Use a piece of sheet plastic, cut just before on the front of the areas, that droop, then sand it back to blend in better, Then add your putty you're using, This will save you alot of time, And the bodywork won't shrink later. Just a little tip to pass along, This is going to look great when done,Slap a phantom HUG 71 Duster on there, That would be a cool car to have on it. Plus its a small car. Very cool project. -
A little project I finished, That i'm unsure to do with.
spkgibson replied to spkgibson's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Yes it will, You just have to add strips on both sides, And cut off the molded in hinges. to fit the 68 Elcamino kits, They are a direct drop in for the AMT 68-69 Chevelles ,And the 69 El Camino Kits. It's based off the AMT 69 Chevelle , It will fit with alittle mods on the sides for the 68 El Camino. By the way, This is in the hands of the resin caster as we speak. So look for it soon. Thanks's for casting this for us Missing Link. -

spkgibson replied to SteveG's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
This kit has one of THE best AMC V-8's ever put in a model kit, The only issue is the metal axle hole in the oil pan, Other then that it will work for most of the AMC V-8's from the 304- up to the 401. Basically the same blocks, Just different Bores . Plus it has the Automatic Transmission . from 67-73 paint it AMC Metallic Blue, 1974 on AMC solid blue, The close match to that color is Chrysler Engine Blue, I had a can of it mixed up in Laquer awhile back. And if you compare the two colors , You can barely tell the difference. I can't wait for this one. Now if I can find one of the "Fresh Cherrys" Diecasts to use the stock wheel covers off of, Instead of the factory mags that come in the kit. -
`58 Impy........and I broke it. Now fixed
spkgibson replied to Diesel Gypsy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
If you still have the original part thats missing use some Locktite superglue, a touch of putty, sand then foil it, It will be totally hidden by the foil, I busted a vent post in half, And did the same thing, Those Revell 69 Nova's are weak in that area, Thats an easy fix just take your time, Nice paint ,And color combo. -
If you have a 66 Marlin parts kit, Thats about as close as you're going to get, Of maybe a modified 66 Fairlane/67 Comet Chassis, The tube axle will have to be scratch built. Juha Airo made a 56 Rambler back in 96-98, Thats how he did the chassis. It was in one of the old Car Modeler mags back then, Or SA.

The car is has the Ambassador wheelbase, But its called a cross country if I remember correctly. I had one of the promos of it, I'll have to get a couple of these, I think a 55 Chevy trunk will work for the sedan, with a few mods, I have 2 of the junker Monogram kits just sitting around. These came with the interior correct? My promo I had didn't.

A little update, This will be sent out to be cast in resin the begining of October, I hope anyone that has wanted to build a 68-69 Malibu will be pleased, I would rather contribute this to the hobby ,Then take the risk of ruining it by painting it, I'll give updates on the process, And reveal the caster soon, -
Very nice impressive build, The colors fit the car very well. I just wish these were just a little cheaper in price though. As far as the un needed coments I would just ignore them, No use in it. It it wasn't for ALL of our model kits being made oversea's we wouldn't have anything to build ,AMT,Revell, almost everything you buy now is made over there, Plus the quality of the kits in the past few years has improved alot, Just enjoy the build ,As I am.

Yeah I was thinking about it, This is the third one of these I have done. I made sure this one has the correct number of vents in it, Basically the 69 AMT SS Is a Malibu. with the SS Hood , And the terrible taillights, I wish I could get someone to make just the original Bezels and Red Clear Taillights , I personally would rather use those with the kit bumper to cut down on the cost. I wonder how many people would actually want this done. -

Made from the 69 Chevelle hood, And 77 Monte Carlo hoods. Let me know what you think. It took me about 4 hours total to finish up. -
Hey It's close enough, I'll try and post some photos of the El Camino in the morning.

I also have seen that vender, They had a set of 72-76 Dodge Truck wheelcovers I wanted, But almost $30 for 4 tires, Wheel backs And the wheelcover? Come on,you could possibly get lucky and find a decent started kit for that amount, Thats just crazy. -
On my bench as of right now,I have an original AMT 1969 El Camino restore job, It's painted Glacier Blue , It will have a parchment and black interior, And the Malibu style flat hood, My last one I had, All of the SS 396 emblems were sanded off ,and the entire back window area had to be rebuilt from scratch, I'll post some photos of it soon.

I would have to agree with you on this Dave, Me personally being a huge Mopar fan, Sounds out of sorts for me to say, But I have Always had a soft spot for the 68-72 Chevelles and Novas, Also the 75-79 Novas , My first car was a Carmine Red Metallic 79 Nova, It had a Red interior , And a 350-4 , 400 auto out of a 74 Buick LeSabre, Crazy putting a Buick engine in a Chevy, But That car was alot of fun to drive, It would be great to see more of this kind of mainstream stuff being made in resin, Every one loves Any SS Chevy, But most of the time the non SS cars were more common to see in the area I live, I cannot tell you how many Buicks I had seen when I was growing up in "Buick City" as they used to call it back the 80's , There is maybe just a few plants left now. The most fond memory I have is when I was able to tour the Buick engine plant when I was 15. I would love to see more of these types of conversion kits made, I can do alot of the stuff myself, But I'm just to lazy some days, Keep up the great work guys, I like what I'm seeing. I only wish these had plated bumpers.

Thats the same way I made my last 69 Chevelle flat hood, only I used the 77 Monte Carlo hood, I combined both , And it turned out nice, All I had the to was cut out the bulges form the 69, Then cut the monte hood, I used just enough of the hood and vents to fill in the holes where I made the cuts on the chevelle hood, Other then alittle putty and primer, Thats all it took to make . I plan to make another one soon if they don't become available soon in resin. I also wish someone would make the proper taillights for the 69, And just sell the bezels and clear taillights so we dont have to shell out almost $10 for the stuff. I will hopefully be getting one of these 71's soon, Nice job on the hood, I just gave you the instructions on how to make the 69 hood. Hint Hint.
