  1. Just a question- how is a list of abbreviations a 'dictionary'? Wouldn't "Modeler's List of Abbreviations" be a more descriptive thread title?
  2. That is one big advantage, yes. That technique works perfectly on the slicks from the Round 2 reissues of the AMT Munster Coach and Dragula.
  3. Copyright notices only exist on my kits in the 'raw styrene' phase. The have to be there, but fortunately, most manufacturers either put them in an area that will be hidden on the finished model, or in an area where they will be easily dealt with via file and sandpaper.
  4. The Revell Beetle's best aspects are the engine and bellypan, the rest is a bit iffy. Being 1:25, it would be a perfect parts donor for the Manx. Some issues of the kit had cool wheels ( the 'Lightning Rods' kit, for instance), and a 'Stinger' style exhaust setup.
  5. I'm kind of on the fence about two-piece plastic and resin cast tires. I'll use them if I have no other atlernatives available, but for the most part I do favor the vinyl (or better still, natural rubber) tires. I know there are guys who can paint them to look just like real rubber tires, but I'm not one of them.
  6. Make it easier on them by putting the sample in a container of some sort.
  7. Dullcoat is good, I've also had good luck going over them with a brass-bristle wire brush. That takes down the shine and makes them look more like natural rubber. But anyway, yeah- I don't care if there's no sidewall detail, just enough with the blocky, comically-oversized junk already!
  8. They're the same. Aoshima- http://public.fotki....hima-vw-beetle/ Imai- http://public.fotki.com/ChuckMost/kit-contents/imai/volkswagen-1303s-beetle/
  9. Well, yeah. Marty McFly went to 2015, remember?
  10. Might need a chase/support truck or two, as well.
  11. I am kind of leaning toward a '60 Ford, but the Starliner kit with the '61's formal roof grafted on, and the stock steel wheels and bottle caps with plain blackwall tires. I suppose we'll see what happens.
  12. There is, but it's pretty crude, and unless the star of the funeral is a midget, it's way too small.
  13. I had not considered that. Does crack the possibilities wide open, though. Those were all factors I considered, and what originally led me to a 'late model' (for '62 car). Many early '60's cars would have included most (if not all) of those aspects right from the factory, all they'd need is a bit of help from the racing and 'shine guys to make them ideal for an event like the Cannonball.
  14. Cranky comes and goes as he pleases- just hang around and he'll show up.
  15. Very nice, Johnny! Wish they'd bring this one back out, if possible.
  16. That and it was 'just a movie'. You could go cross country in a quasi-gasser in a movie, but a possessed '58 Fury might be chasing you all the way. I might be able to jump into this one. What kind of vehicle? Don't know. But it would have to be something with decent power, good handling, and above all reliable for all the action it's about to see. Possibly something that was successful in the NASCAR circuit of the era, or maybe a specially prepped sports car.
  17. Yes, but the 7X was the production engine. It wasn't done specifically for NASCAR.
  18. I know some of the more recent molded in color AMT kits had the opposite thing going on- the parts were molded in, say, red- but when you stripped the chrome the plastic used on the plated parts was grey. Many did have the plated parts in the same color as the rest of the kit. They probably just use whatever color plastic they have on hand for the chrome parts, whether it matches the raw kit pieces or not.
  19. Every year except the '65 is rare- have at it!
  20. It may have been originally slated to be a diecast, but Revell seemed to be pulling out of the diecast market for the most part by the time this kit was announced.
  21. Did a bit more on the pickup- removed the bumper guards and licence plate frames, got rid of the body trim, and removed the fender skirts.
