  1. In short- yes. They're all kept at an 'above toddler level' on the shelves. I don't care if they paw around in the unbuilt kits, but no touchie on the builts.
  2. The Revell kits are okay, the Polar Lights Herbie kits are okay... the Tamiya '66 engine is REALLY nice. Can't vouch for the Ghia engine, but if it's as good as the Beetle piece it should be a good one to have. Trouble is all of the GOOD VW engines are stock only.
  3. Custom treatment I've tried on two of them (neither one is finished)- cut off the stock grille and use a narrowed '60 Merc grille from the AMT parts pack set-
  4. When did Alclad become available in a spray can?
  5. Detail's a bit weak in the Barris T Buggy though, if I recall. I still think the best bet for a Corvair mill would be the AMT parts pack.
  6. Forgot I had pics of the reissue
  7. Sweet. Love the old Broncs!
  8. I want no part of this 'magazine' business.
  9. Yeah... I do know of a guy who built one of those.... Is that a Revell kit? I ask because 'Revell' and 'Ferrari' don't seem to go together very well, quality-wise.
  10. Not sure. I was thinking of making some parts boxes with Hudson logos printed on them to fit in the back, or maybe a spare 308 7X Hudson engine in a crate. Guess I'll find out when I git there.
  11. Well, no photo update, but the trim is removed from the pickup version. Think I'll call it the "Hudson Handyman". Unlike the green '52, which I'm pretty much making up as I go, I actually formulated a plan for the pickup- I'm building it as if Hudson had actually produced a pickup in '53 (or any other year the Step Down was produced). As a commercial vehicle, it would likely be available as a 'stripped down' version- very minimal trim, no hubcaps, silver-painted parts instead of chrome, plain blackwall tires with open steel wheels and no side skirts. Inside, there will be a plain bench seat, no radio, and only basic trim. And to seal the deal, I'm thinking of finishing the truck in dark gray primer. I know for a fact Ford would let you order a truck from the factory in primer, so you could paint it whatever color you wanted once you got it, and I'm sure other manufacurers did likewise. Besides, I think a dark gray primer would look good with the stripped-down motif of this "Hudson Handyman" I've dreamed up. Anyway- back to the bench!
  12. I don't know about Evergreen, but you can order Plastruct directly from the company.
  13. It was co-designed by an AMT designer, but as far as I know, it was always an MPC kit. In fact the King T/Wild Dream kit (which this was based upon) was originally sold under the AMT name, but the kit and tooling were from MPC even then.
  14. That's usually what I do. If I can't find anything close that way, your local paint shop might be able to help you. I know a few parts store chains (CarQuest and O'Reilly auto parts) can custom-mix paints and put them into a spray can for you.
  15. For some people, yes, it is. But for others, it IS a frivolous promise to set some great goal they won't keep. I set goals for myself constantly- I just don't use a date on the calendar to set and work towards them, that's all.
  16. Replace '28' with '12' and that's exactly what I have to say about it.
  17. I'm still toying with the idea of getting that 1:12 kit- that's one of the few kits I feel would be compelling enough even if built strictly out of box.
  18. The Nissan fullsize van that's coming out? Looks like they just slapped a Titan front end on a Sprinter body.
  19. What's incorrect about the beds? They don't look anything like Cameo beds to me.
  20. Just for clarification- Pro Modeler is Revell. You're thinking Pro Shop.
  21. We may not be getting a half-dozen all-new releases like in decades past, but all things considered, yeah, it is a pretty good time to be a car modeler. I have to say the first time I was ever actually excited for anything in the model car hobby was the arrival of the Moebius Hudson. Ditto the Lonestar. I'm feeling a bit of that same excitement for the upcoming Revell '57 Ford and '50 Olds. And now that AMT/MPC/PL are under the full ownership of Round 2, the future looks very bright indeed. Sure the market may be 'in decline' but it seems to be just as vibrant as it ever was, and growing more diverse all the time.
  22. Those might just be dust particles on the decals- I've had decals with blotches like that, and they've come off once the decal is immersed, then applied to the body and blotted.
  23. This one's made quite a few lists of 'Worst Automotive Ideas of 2011'. Does a market for a convertible luxury SUV exist? I guess we'll see.
  24. Cool! Can't be enought Knight Rider variants out there.
