Awesome! And to those who'd like to see what Barry does with his models with a few photo effects- http://www.madmaxmodels.com/bhdiorama.html -
HELP! Chrome steelie wheels
Chuck Most replied to DumpyDan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
AMT '51 Chevy had some (at least the Convertible and Fastback kits did). The AMT '67 Mercury Comet kit had some too, but they were the Mercury-specific 'slotted' steel wheels. There is a set in the AMT '63 Ford Galaxie, but they're a bit iffy, appearance-wise. -
2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD

That's something I've never really 'gotten' about Apocalyptic vehicle models myself... it is almost always a '57 Chevy, or an old muscle car, or something like that. To my way of thinking, 'classic' cars like that would retain their value in a post apocalyptic world- maybe even taking the place of currency in some situations. Then again, the sheer 'cool factor' and relative lack of anything late model in kit form could be factors too, I guess. That '41 is a very nice kit, and since 'militarized' versions of that vehicle were used in WWII, you might have a few styling cues you could incorporate into the build. -
Laptop Recommendations
Chuck Most replied to Mr. Moparman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ditto. And I say that after 'test-driving' just about every type of PC AND laptop out there over the last few years. -
Best Corvette model. EVER.

I've used it on some 1:1 projects- about all you need to do is strain it before running it through a spray gun. It doesn't say you have to, but I have a habit of straining all paints before spraying them. You probably would have to thin it to use in an airbrush. It's pretty good stuff, especially for the price- the local Advance sells it for just under $23 a quart.

The Hornet's Nest: Hudson Hornet Build Madness!
Chuck Most replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
Lookin' nice, Mark! I'm just waiting on some BMF to show up, then I'll be able to finish up the green '52. Well, the body, anyhow. -
They must have come with the kit- the one I got a few days ago and posted here has those same wheel covers on it.

Just waiting for the 'official' start on the 15th- still in the gathering parts stages at this point. -
Test Shots and Other Parts Oddities
Chuck Most replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Interesting. The most obvious things to me are the lack of engraved carpet and seat detail in the interior tub, and no copyright notices on the chassis plate. No idea what's different from production with the 1:16 Ford parts, as I've never owned one. I did get one of the Moebius '53 Hudson Hornet kit test shots, can anybody tell me what parts here don't come with the producton '53? -
That did happen. Same deal on early IFS cars when the owner got a bit overzealous and lowered the front too much- a tire would fail and the lower crossmember would catch the ground. I think we can all picture what would happen next. I wasn't around back then myself, but my grandfather and great uncle have a few stories about stuff like that happening.

Wow. All I can say!

How many parts does a 1:1 have? I've restored a couple of 1:1 vehicles, and I've STILL had a few kits give me a hard time. Not this particular kit, though. Gordon- is that Lime Ice on yours? I was planning on painting one of mine that color.

Only issue I've had is that the headlamp reflectors seem to want to mount just a little bit lower than they should. Only the third semi I have built, and so far no serious issues. Yeah, the instruction diagrams could be better, but nothing on it seems to tough to figure out.
-
The 'snout' looks a bit longer and more wedge-shaped than the AMT, I'd say no.
-
I keep hearing of those mutliple instruction sheet Round 2 kits... have yet to purchase one myself. Feel kind of cheated.
-
I collect them to a degree, and I usually scan them for the same purposes as you. One of these days I'd like to print out a sheet of them- owner's manual, factory and Haynes manuals, dealer brochures, and the like. The dealer brochures are the toughest things to come by- they are usually tossed out at the end of the model year. Here is a really good source for automotive literature- http://www.lloydsautolit.com/

2013 Dodge Dart !
Chuck Most replied to moparmagiclives's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If all the buzz I'm seeing on this thing is any indication of how well it will sell, it might just be a hit. Seems like I've been seeing this car popping up on every automotive website and blog I follow. Dodge has already gotten TONS of exposure for this car- now the question is will it live up to the pre-production hype. -
K-Mart has lost another customer.
Chuck Most replied to Austin T's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
All of the local stores ask for ID around here, even the auto parts stores. I'm a looooooooooooooong way from being under 18, but it still happens unless I'm buying supplies at a shop where I'm a frequent customer. Just one of those 'Big Brotherly' things. -
Why men shouldn't write advice columns
Chuck Most replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, it was solid advice for the FIRST part of the problem... -
The last issue of the Vampire van had different slicks anyway- I think it had the wide Goodyears, not sure if they were the hollow once-piece or the thick two-piece units, though.

I've got a gun in the works similar in design to Rodney's. Mine's bigger, though. :P :P -
Not that I know of- but a 1:16 Hemi drag engine stuffed into one of these might give you the same look.
