I love seeing old kits built up, and not squirreled away in dark closets! The fact she's an ol' Ford just makes it that much sweeter!

I don't get the whole mentality of guys who collect unbuilt kits- hey, I have no problem with it, just sayin' I don't get it! That model's sole purpose in life is to be built... how would YOU feel if somebody willfully deprived you of attaining your purpose in life? I love seeing these rare old kits built up, ESPECIALLY when done this well, and it's a car I love... and I do love the '62 Merc!

Mixing the different chromes CAN certainly look good- If (like, say, Jeff Sauber) you know what you're doing. It seems some guys don't, but mix different chrome methods anyway. I'm still going to give Alclad a shot one o' these days, and might even try out Spaz Stix, but if I can't get it all to look cohesive- I'm picking one method and sticking with it!

I agree with the first part, some alternatives are more realistic. And I wholeheartedly agree with your second point- I've seen many models with a mish-mash of kit chrome, Alclad, and BMF- there IS a difference in the appearance of the three finishes, and mixing the three often has disastrous results from an appearance standpoint!

I've noticed that too- bumpers, large trim pieces, and the like are best just being vacuum plated. I've never seen SpazStix applied, but I've seen plenty of Alclad, and it's kind of like BMF- most convincing when used in moderation!

I don't see what's so great about the magnet trick. I tried it on a Corvette once and it seemed pretty much useless.

Kind of depends on what's modified on it, I guess. If it's done just like a new one, I'd put it in factory stock, if it's modified, I'd go with hot rods!
