Damage at Russo Steel Auctions

I don't see what's so great about the magnet trick. I tried it on a Corvette once and it seemed pretty much useless. -
Wait a minute... do the MCM Forum moderators really get guns? Awesome!

My Brand Spankin' New Forum

Kind of depends on what's modified on it, I guess. If it's done just like a new one, I'd put it in factory stock, if it's modified, I'd go with hot rods! -

Sometimes it takes a couple attempts- it took me four tries to set it first! -
I know what you are thinking: does the world need ANOTHER model car forum? Sure, why not? I just finished setting up this one, The Scale Soapbox http://thescalesoapbox.proboards.com/index.cgi I've added a few features I haven't seen on other forums, such as- 1. "Under Glass"-style threads, with hot rods, rat rods, customs, replica stocks, and other categories each getting their own area instead of everything being lumped into one big category. 2. The "Soapbox Derby" where you can challenge other modelers to build offs, amaze each other with useless trivia, and bore each other to death with your stories. 3. A "Classic Kit Reviews" section- You can read about new kits anywhere. Ever want to show off that unbuilt MPC '33 Chevy Panel, Premiere Studebaker Champ, or AAM Black Widow transkit? Here's your shot! 4. Soapbox Auction- Patterned loosely after the infamous "H.A.M.B." auctions- this is where you can go to unload yer scale junk! The rules and regs are posted on the forum- I'm pretty lenient on most matters. I absolutely do not tolerate racial slurs of any kind. Keep it off my forum, or YOU will be off my forum. Period. I've got it set up, and of course I'll be popping in as often as I can. You guys take it from here- any MCM member is welcome on the Soapbox!

You're a great modeler, if you're even 20% as good at 'moderating' as you are at modeling I'd say we're in good hands!

Chopped up some chunks of clear kit sprue, and held it all in place with white glue. My palm is still numb from squeezing the sprue cutters!

I love these Heller Citroen kits! Well, I must... I've built three, and all three have been built as rat rods! They aren't models you see every day.

Fella's Juregen needs some help
Chuck Most replied to george 53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
All the ones I've ever seen were 'bi-scale' (24 or 25 scale) or were for a specific vehicle or kit. I don't ever even recall seeing any BF Goodrich tire decals or dry transfers- 99% of the stuff I see is Good Year for NASCAR models. -
For this portable fish cooler, I needed a tarp and some ice to store the fish. I made the tarp from some cheap, razor thin aluminum foil from Dollar General. I wrinkled it up, worked it into the opening, and sprayed it in a semi-gloss blue, to resemble a woven nylon tarp. The ice is just cut-up chunks of clear sprue from several past projects, held in place with diluted white glue. See why I never throw anything away?

Why I've been so testy/ edgy
Chuck Most replied to Nick Winter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Jeff's advice works just as well when you're 27... I usually do the same things he suggests when I 'hit a wall'. -
Anybody remember the Mobile Pork Incinerator? No? Well, anyway... Turns out, Jerry spent a bit too much time at fairs, rodeos, reunions, car shows, and prison courtyards giving away free samples of his food and not nearly enough time at his restaraunt charging people money for his food, and had to close down his restaraunt. That's the bad news. The good news? It gave Jerry the opportunity to go into the fresh fish and bait market! Naturally, he needed a suitable vehicle, so a brief scan of his backyard and a little elbow grease netted him this... A '65 Lincoln Continental with a special, Jerry-fabricated extendo-trunk, with a blue tarp and a belly full of ice to keep his fresh catches fresh. When you boast about having the Pine River's Best Catches*, you've got to back up your claim! Bonus footage: http://public.fotki.com/ChuckMost/the-ballad-of-scary/65-lincoln-ice-box/ Too bad the fish and bait biz is seasonal, and Jerry's going to need to close up shop. Thing is, though, I hear rumblings he has another seasonal job ready for the winter. Something about a portable saw mill... I'll keep you posted! *= The Pine River's Fish are great... compared to fish caught in and around the area of the Chernobyl disaster.

George 53 likes a '53? What a shock! Wow, the taillamp treatment is just killer! Not nearly as sedate as the stock '53 setup for sure!

I was thinking you could scratchbuild a new door out of metal or plastic, then I remembered you were going to go with polished plastic for the body. Looks like it's too short and warped a bit! Yikes! The window frame shouldn't be tough to fix. I'd imagine you could cut the base off one and reattach it with solder, or whatever method you prefer to join metal. That door thing would have me perplexed, as well! Funny thing is- I always thought Pocher kits had metal bodies!

These old rail kits are a pain to wring a decent replica from- but as you've shown it can be done! It may not be perfect, but it's still nicer than any of the rails I've built. Or should I say, tried to build, gave up on, and stuffed into a box in the darkest corner of my attic!
-
Just read the box a bit more carefully next time you see an 'old favorite' from Round 2. I believe it says 'this kit builds the stock version' or something to that effect. If you see no mention of the custom or drag parts, scan the online auction sites for an older issue, which you can probably buy for less than the new, decontented version anywho!

What do you drive?

Does a late '40's Reo Deuce and a half count? There's one on my property, but it doesn't belong to me. Yet. -
Not that I'm aware- though I'd think you could cut down the Electra body and modify it to use as a Wildcat.
-
Dave... that's a great idea! As far as I know, that kit was only issued once- I'm sure plenty of people are chomping at the bit to get one! (I'd wait for the Big Block version to be repopped, though. )
