  1. For the last several years I was part of a forum that had a private group in the ESPN Stock Car Challenge. The group folded during the off season as the group's original focus was a fan page for Chad Little. Chad last raced in 2002. As Daytona approaches, I realize I'm going to miss not have a team of drivers to follow. Anyone belong to a similar group that would invite me to join? Mike
  2. Well I given it serious suggestions thought time. My choices would be: 1930 Miller Indy Car (hey it is the 100th anniversary....) see: http://www.google.com/images?q=miller+indy+car&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=768&bih=434 Scarab (I know Mini Exotics made one in resin) that's fully detailed see: http://www.arteauto.com/scarab-racelogoftheall-americanspecial1957-1965bookbyplerner.aspx An ACCURATE Kurtis Kraft Indy Car see: http://www.sportscardigest.com/amelia-island-concours-delegance-corporate-award-winners/ Thanks for giving me a second dreamland vote.
  3. Can you post a link to the site where I can find pictures? Thanks, Mike
  4. Agreed.... No chrome in kits that require chrome would be a hindrance to most model buyers to only benefit a small percentage. When you think about it, such a change would only be to inconvenience model builders for the less than correct placement of the mold attachment points. Mike
  5. I'd want hollow. That way if I want to detail it, I can. If its solid there's nothing I can do with it but make it solid.
  6. I hope you'll post if its available for sale from where and how much. Mike
  7. TECHNICALLY when you copy an artist's work you are, within the United States, violating copyright law. Its like if I sell photos printed from a CD of photos I bought from you. I am violating your copyright. If making a copy for yourself, it would more than likely fall under the same protection as copying a CD to your computers hard drive for YOUR use. Technically a violation, but the court won't hear such a violation. IF on the other hand, you either give or sell that copy to someone else, the court will hear the case if the owner of the copyright wishes to pursue it. Making a copy of a previous resin piece more than likely won't bring a prosecution because most resin casters know that they're in a gray area if they recast or modify the previous work of another entity. They more than likely don't have the legal right to cast the original that you copied. The defense is their modification makes their casting a new and original work. How much modification is required to make it a new work? I'm unaware of any court ruling that indicates how much modification would be required. More specifically both parties are violating the trademarks of the manufacturer's. Even if the automaker is out of business, their trademark is more than likely still protected. For example, American Motors is an active trademark of Chrysler Corporation. Our hobby has been blessed with a casual ignorance of both trademark and copyright holders. I know of only a few times it has been applied to the hobby. The kit manufacturers buy licensing fees to the 1:1 manufacturers as well as the tire manufacturers. Royalty costs are the given reason why current Revell/Monogram kits don't have tire markings. As for the aftermarket only a few decal manufacturers have cleared their products. The cost of that clearance is why Slixx dropped Nascar decals. MIke
  8. Hey Don......Since Gooche's decals are hard to find could you show a set of Slixx decals on it? Mike
  9. Try a medical tape, preferably a paper one. Self adhesive, weighs less and a lot easier to install. Mike
  10. There are very few kits that I have passed up at a model show. This is one of two (the other was an Etzels Classic resin kit) that I passed up that I still regret. Semi built, poor decals (before slixx), restorable and only $40. Let it go because I expected it to be re-issued. Fourteen or fifteen years waiting and its still on the list of most desireable kits that haven't been re--issued. One day I'll pay BIG bucks for one. The next week it will be announced as a next quarter release. Very nice build. I wish it was mine.
  11. From another forum: The Eddie Rickenbacker chapter of IPMS in Columbus Ohio is having our annual Bliz-con (Blizzardcon) on Feb 19, 2011. Hope to see ya there. Dan I've made this show before. When I went, there was a lot of nice higher dollar items. If I had a spare $300 I'd go and buy some really great things. Prices weren't cheap but the things I saw were quite nice and worth it. Mike
  12. What I find amazing and rather irritating is production cars that have been restored go through the roof while race cars that show the skills of a craftsman often fall flat. I remember seeing a Lil 'John Hot Rod cover car sell. It went for less then forty. Then a restored Chevy hits $100K. Something isn't right with that..... Mike
  13. I got you beat.....at least in my book (which is the one I count). My wife and I adopted two wonderful children from Guatemala. Mike
  14. This is one kit I'd been looking for detail information for...... Thanks! Mike
  15. I've got a built up Wackie Woodie. What would you like to know? Mike
  16. What issue is currently in stores? I thought 133 had mailed a month ago but neither of my LHS's have had it. Mike
  17. Does anyone have any pictures of the Good Stuff (not Comp Resins) Barry Setzer Dragster? I have the Comp Resin piece and I'd like to correct it. I'd like to compare it to the Good Stuff version for ideas. Thanks, Mike
  18. That is soooooooo sweeet! Mike
  19. Tuesday Morning is an interesting store that's sorta an upscale Big Lots. They're open during the holidays with rather erratic hours. Check out: http://www.tuesdaymorning.com/indexCatalogOn.asp I've only been to a couple but none are within three hours of me now. Mike
  20. Built. I'm good at starting but I get to some point and there's a stumbling block that keeps me from completing anything. That's it......Built.
  21. Once again Scott proves he's more talented than 99.99% of the other modelers in the world. Great work! Mike
  22. Holy krap Batman.......If Greg can finish a model I better do the same thing. If not Ken Hart will abuse me relentlessly.
  23. My Father died this year. He was both a Korean and Viet Nam vet. It wasn't until I went through his effects preparing for his funeral that I truly knew what he gave. Mum talked about how he had changed after Viet Nam. It wasn't until the latter years of his life that he came to peace with things that happened during that war. Mum said that she had been married to four men. The one before Korea. The one who came back from Korea. The one who came back from Viet Nam. The one who finally was at peace. It wasn't until the military service at the cemetery, that I finally understood why the military had been so special to him. It made him who he was. What he was, was a good man. He served the country in the military and continued serving others after his retirement. I appreciate what he gave me and he and others gave to this country. I encourage you to say thanks to a veteran tomorrow and every other opportunity you have. I also ask you to say a prayer for those fighting battles both abroad and within themselves.
  24. Three things...... 1. Please put together a tutorial. I'm either going to modify the Revell body or a resin Good Stuff body. Either way, there's significant challenges. Of course, I enjoy those challenges. 2. Got any extra MPC Omni/Charger bodies? PM if you do. 3. I'm glad you're sticking around. I thought you were dropping the hobby to concentrate on other things. I hope this is a sign of good things in your life. Mike
  25. I keep on wondering why not just use the PL Charger body instead of the Revell body? With the exception of the window posts, the PL body looks like the best body for an accurate 1969 Charger. The Revell body is a slab side and has a wedge cut to it that is a great newstalgia body but not an accurate 1969. Chuck's mods do improve the Revell body greatly but does it improve it enough to justify the work? What areas are the Revell body better than the PL? The top of both the front and rear fenders of the Revell body just doesn't look right to me. It is apparent the sides and the lack of wedge of the PL makes it a better body out of the box. My choice right now, is the Good Stuff Charger body. I got three of those. One is in great shape while the other two show damage.
