A tip of the hat....that's a great job with a lot of scratch building.

Trully a great build in progress. Can you tell me about where you got the brass pieces? This one is going to be good. Mike

I'm debating getting into HO. No one near me seems to race which is a limiting factor. The neaest other track to mine (if I actually built it) would currently be about an hour or and hour and a half away. With my limited time (son active in Boy Scouts, I'm an assistaint Scoutmaster and a daughter in competitive gymnastics) and I'd like to actually build models) that too much communting for a competition. I'm aware of active clubs three or so hours away but just can't commit the time and the money to it. Maybe when I retire or the kids are in college.

I'm not sure about the box wrench comment. Can you explain? Thanks, Mike -
Resin Casters, refused to buy parts?
iBorg replied to mannyclub's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Every business has the right to refuse service. The only restrictions are (and this varies by state) you can not refuse service based upon race, sex, religion, sexual preference and ethnic orgin. You may think age, but send your 13 year old to buy cigarettes or booze and they should be refused. I'd love to buy Coca-cola fountain mix but Coke only sells it to their licensed dealers. If I were a caster, would I refuse to sell to you directly, yes. Would I buy someone else's product and modify it (don't flame me yet) and reproduce it. Yes. For the most part resin casters do that all the time. How many plastic kits have you seen "modified and corrected" and then cast and sold. You may not like it, but at the core essence of the casting process, it is a fundamental part of the process. How many parts that are cast are straight or modified kit parts? Compare that to the number that are 100% scratch built. -
I stumbled onto this.....really glad I did. The tires are inspiring. I've wanted to do something (show cartoon motion) like this and have always stopped on the tires.....Now I have a glue how to do them.... I hope you throw some mud on this one. I'll be watching.

If you were near me, I'd hit you with a snowball.

I have an Aluma Coupe that I started on along the same lines. Did a lot of mods but never could work out a front end treatment I like. Yours works. I'll have to try it. By the way, what did you do for a chasis? Great JOB! Mike

Revell Tom "The Mongoose" McEwen Rail Dragster
iBorg replied to Evil Appetite's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I can tell you why they quit doing it.....when originally issued superglue wasn't commonly available. Expoxy was also difficult to find. With the adhesives that were available (1975 or so) getting those parts to stick where you wanted them was pretty much impossible. Those wonderful pre wired distrubutors and fuel lines ended up never used. Kit truly looks like a direct repop of the '75 kit without the decals. That doesn't really bother me as the car wasn't ran much or if at all in the Carefree markings (it was first issued in a red-orange with main markings from Carefree gum). I do wish they'd re-did it as the Hot Wheels Blue McEwen dragster. -
One thing to improve on.....drill your center hole for the spindle mount before yo make the rest of the wheel. I do think you did a good job on keeping the flange very close on the two rims.

The SLM directory may be the best. Visit it at: http://www.straightlinemodeler.org/parts/parts.html

Wow...... Wow>>>> Did I say Wow? Very impressed. I'm humbled.

The front were raised to aid weight transfer due to the lacking traction of the slicks. Most associations limited the crank centerline to be no more than 24 inches above the ground.

I agree with Charlie about the bodies. The MPC USA-1 Camaro is pretty much the stock MPC Camaro body with a molded in hood. The Revell kit has some of the proportions right but the front of the greenhouse looks like some sat on it. I have scene someone merge an AMT Camaro greenhouse to it and come out with a nice product. Did you have to adjust the wheelbase at all or does that body have the same wheelbase as the PL cars?

Decembers Mongoose kit will be the 70's Monogram kit!
iBorg replied to Dragline's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Never thought that word (non cuss word) that I've heard preachers use from the pulpit would be #######ed out. If you're wondering what word, it sounds like a type of fish....... I try not to use those others. -

I just hope their quality control is good. They really have done either a great job or a ###### with this mold. I have yet to see the re-issued Jeb Allen kit that was build able. The frame rails were plastic pretzels. I have other releases and they were perfect. -
Great job....not overly detailed to the point of looking fake. Where did you get the decals? Those are a lot better than I'd expect from the kit. Mike

As of about five years ago the Mustang FC non chrome parts were in the hands of Jo-Han/Oakey Spaulding. I know as I bought two test shots from him. At the time he told me he was unaware of the whereabouts of the chrome. Mike

At first I thought this was spam......but nice pics. Wonder if they're selling the car to afford the house?

I'm interested in following this build. I've got a Laser XT sitting in the garage needing a fairly extensive rebuild. This is a kit, I'd like to add to my collection. Mike -
I saw Corvette but the fuel filler got me. Very impressive work. Mike

There's a concept I never would have thought of......let's cross Indy car with a Viper. Salute!
