A diiferent way to ship cars
iBorg replied to charlie8575's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I wonder how many started to rust in the containers? I had a Vega, absolutely worst piece of junk I ever owned. This from someone who onwed MGs, VW Rabbits and a Ford Escort. I envied Pinto owners. -
Revell thinking about NASCAR again
iBorg replied to martinfan5's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think that a quality glue kit would be a great addition. The AMT COT is not a fair comparision. I lacks enough detail that at best it is a good foundation to kitbash with ......a Revell/Monogram stock car. Instead of forcing the modeler to undo and redo wouldn't it be nice to have the quality in one kit? Imagine using the same skill that Revell showed in their midget kits making a modern race car. Would I like drag racing instead.....maybe, but, look at the TV ratings and the fans in the stands. NASCAR is king. It just makes better business sense to tool up what has the greatest market potential. There are more average fans who might be tempted to buy a NASCAR kit than a drag. Do it right, make it a scale replica instead of an unassemblied toy and it might be a good seller. If they do, hopefully Revell won't oversaturate the market like Monogram did previously. -
Your thoughts and prayers please
iBorg replied to 91blaze's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Any loss of a parent or a child is tragic. A loss of this type is just so wrong. My thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family. -
Got to give me credit for trying.......

Wait a minute.......I was right. What's my prize?

Either Tommy Ivo Showboat or Tony Nancy Double kit. The Prudhomme Snake funny car can't be far behind.
-
Very tough builds. I've seen some builds that were great. I attempted the Showboat twenty years ago and found the engine to be beyond my abilities due to SEVERE fit issues. Some day I'll attempt it again. Some day I'll also win the lottery......

Let me give a tip of the hat to Casey. I went through several "life issues" while trying to complete a trade. PM me if you're considering a trade with outragis, aka Eric Ragis.

You really need to do an article for Gregg on your woodgraining technique. That looks dead on.... Great looking project. Mike

Ernie Irvan rides
iBorg replied to martinfan5's topic in WIP: Stock Cars (NASCAR, Super Stock, Late Model, etc.)
I do miss Ernie and several drivers from that era. I wonder if he had not been injured how his career would have turned out. Those are some great builds. -
A Pair of Ferraris 50 years apart -- 458 Italia and 250 SWB **DONE**
iBorg replied to Matt Bacon's topic in Model Cars
Thanks for the long post. I would much rather have a real build review than some magazine reviewers (consider the few negatives expressed in another model magazine) who rarely find much negative to say about most kits. I'm now on a lookout for the Revell kit. It sounds like a great kit to share with me son and hopefully get him started building. Mike -
Have a question about the Happy Days series of models
iBorg replied to gray07's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I thank the Happy Days series was the last reissue of the Revell Parts Packs motorcycles. They're hard to find and worth their weight in expensive metal. Mike -
Castrol Super Clean or Simple Green
iBorg replied to Nick Winter's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'm interested in the comments on this one. I refuse to use brake fluid as I've ruined a couple of kits with it. Easy off's nasty fumes cause me to have respiratory problems. I use 91 proof alcohol on some models with great sucess. Other paints it doesn't touch. I'm a great fan of Polly's Easy Lift Off (ELO). It's hard to find but worth the effort. -
Neither.....The decal looks too modern for this old school build. Pin stripping would be a better choice. Mike

SAE dates back to its previous owner when SAE would take me more than half an hour to read. Model Cars hits me more often as a useful read. If they're both on a newstand, I'lll look at SAE first. Then I'll pick up the Model Cars mag. If I'm only going to buy one, it will be the Model Cars mag.

A few of those I've seen. Several others are really helpful. Hopefully next week I'll be able to post my severely modified AMT body. Mike

I'm interested in the 74-77 car. Guess I'm a victim of late night brain fade.

I'm still on the road but brought with me an AMT Mustang II funny car that has been modified a great deal to be close to accurate. I'm wanting to replicate the '85 Blue Max. If you've got any pictures of this car you'd care to share, I'd appreciate it. Thanks, MIke

First let me explain this post......I've dropped the ball on a few trades. They're still in my mind but circumstances are making it difficult for me to follow through. I hope to in a couple of weeks.....may even think about building something. A brief summary. June 14 I have some sort of medical issue. I totally loose it for no reason. Something is wrong. I am barely able to drive and seek medical attention. June 15- Doctor believes its a panic attack and suggest counseling June 18- Spend all day in a Photoshop Training Seminar. A Good Day June 19- I'm at my asthma doctor. I ask about meds causing the problem. He asks if I'm currently experiencing it. Yes. He orders me to my general practitioner for an EKG. After the EKG, my GP suggests I either go immediately to the ER or he can call the paramedics. My wife is there so we decide sh should drive. We run out of gas on the way to the ER. I now have a cardologist and I have an irregular heartbeat which has been causing the more increasing and more severe panic attacks. June 20- I receive a phone call from my wife to call my brother in law in Illinios ASAP. My sister isn't expected to live through the day. I travel from West Virginia to Kentucky to pick up my mother and travel to Normal-Bloomington Illinois. June 22- I get a phone call from the ER that X-rays indicate I have nodules on my heart. June 24- return home. June 25 Get CT scan and visit my cardologist. I'm doing much better on meds to control my heartbeat. I haven't scared my son or myself since starting them. I ask about Boy Scout camp. He suggests I go and try to "catch my breath." I BOOK to camp, a phone free, computer free world. June 29- the last night of camp we're told to either shelter in place in our tents or go to the mess hall. After initally deciding to shelter in place we decide to move to the mess hall. While driving there, the road is blocked by trees. We send the boys with a couple of leaders off. Those of us with vehicles try to get them where they are less likely to be damaged. June 30- No injuries. We leave camp and have to detour to get home. A two and a half hour drive is over five. Nearly two hours are spent waiting for gas. I arrive home with no power. My Internet access is McDonalds for breakfast. My man cave/modeling room is now a darkened cave. July 5- We're told it will be at least Sunday. As soon as we get power and are certain of no damage, we're on the road to the in-laws. This is seriously the only week we can travel as a family until November. SORRY I've dropped my end. I will pick it up in a couple of weeks. Mike

THOR figure
iBorg replied to Plasticfanatic's topic in WIP: All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
Looks nice.....I've got the plastic Thor kit from about five years ago started that I need to return to. Mike -
Nope.....the originals all had the hood bulge. A lot of modlers would LOVE to see it restored. While the MPC Malaco gassers were not totally accurate, the Street Freak version is even more so. Its a good base if you're going to do a lot of scratch building to get it right but the emphasis is on "a lot of scratch building."
