Almost done! Just added the chrome tape behind the lenses and on the mirrors. Painted the clear red/orange on the lights. Clear coated the roof. Later this afternoon I will glue the mirrors on the car, and clear-coat the entire thing. Then final assembly some time tomarrow!

Real or Model #87 FINISHED!
FujimiLover replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
The surface the car is sitting on doesn't look right, tires are too shiny. Even highly polished tires useing Black Magic or something similar dont' look like that. Also, the black section on the rear valance between the tail-lights look's wrong. Then again, I've never even seen the real car before, so I honestly can't judge. However, tires, and surface sais model. -
Thank's, but I'm not sure if the Mini's were jumping into muddy water's.

Gap-Filling CA-glue works well. But be easy, it is thin and can go where you dont' want to. But once it drys, you can sand it down for painting and it will fill in nicely any crack. They do have special applicaters for the CA-glue bottles which will pin-point apply the glue right where you want it. I suggest investing in that when you get your glue. Remember, gap-filling CA glue. It sais' so right on the bottle.

Nice job, but could you post bigger pictures? Small pictures make it hard to see those nice details!

I had assumed that was in question, and this thread is final answer? I guess "The new generation of Olds" didn't last long did it? Back to your father's Oldsmobile!

Looking for a centering tool for drilling holes in rounds
FujimiLover replied to Foxer's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Whenever I've built/modified RC cars, I've always had problems lining up holes and marking hole-location's for perfect drilling. Even with carefull measuring, I still can't get the darn thing's perfect. Marking holes for precision, or near-precision is darn-difficult! -
What the???.....
FujimiLover replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I can't imagine that'd be easy to, eh, kick-start? I bet starting that thing would be difficult as that rear tire must be heavy! Plus, I doubt you could turn very sharply either! -
I didn't have any luck googling for photo's either. The only chase scene I could find from the movie was when the Mini's were going down the stairs into the sub-way station. That seems to be the most popular one. Of coarse, there are lot's of scenes from the classic version available. I might have to freeze-frame the movie and take a picture of it with my camera! I've got lot's of ideas for diorama's, just no skills yet to build theme. Still would like to do my Initial D drifting scene as well. That would be MUCH simpler than the T.I.J. scene.
-
You know what would be a kick-azz diorama to build? The scene from The Italian Job where the three Mini Cooper's jump out of the sweage drain pipe and into the "river". Is there anyway to simulate water-splashes? I can picture the Mini Cooper's being mounted at such steep angles with water splashing up just like in the movie. The diorama would be several feet long to accomidate three 1/24 scale model cars at the appropiate distance. How would YOU go about building one?

I love WRC and wish Speed Channel would bring it back! Nice model and nice diorama! Great way for displaying such a great model!

Cool, what are you going to use for the headlights? Perhaps from a 32 Ford Roadster? Look's nice!
-
That's why I like car's such as the Ferrari 360 Modena and the Koenig Competition, they have clear engine covers so you can see their glory. I've also noticed that alot of modern "tuner" cars, now have access to clear-colored plexi-glass hood's which is kind of cool I suppose, although I prefer the carbon-fiber hood style my selfe. Still, it's nice to have the engine covered, yet still be able to see it's beauty!

Chassis finished! Interior/wheels mounted. Window painted. Gotta love that Tamiya masking tape! And decal's applied! There was only one set of badges I did not bother with since they were white lettering. I didn't think anybody could ever see white lettering on a white car, so why bother? Anyway, I'll let this dry till tomarrow and clear coat her! Next step is to stick chrome tape behind the headlight/taillight lenses, and paint in the clear color's, stick'em on and she's done! Oh so nearly complete!
-
Yep! It sure is! I cleaned it up some more so it look's even better in person. I'm heading to the hobby shop to find the "pure white" in a bottle so I can do some touch up work. Then decal's, then clear coat. Just primered the mirrors and waiting for theme to dry before painting those. Bare Metal Foil REALLY pushes your patients level as it's delicate stuff to work with. The stuff is almost as thin as a hair and tears easily. Trick is to stick it in position, and use a tooth-pick to smooth it all out into place. The tooth-pick really helps in bringing out all the details BEFORE scoring off the access with a sharp knife. For the mirror's, I use chrome monocoat. Sticky-backed stuff they use for RC model-airplanes. Nice, but not as thin and formable as the BMF is.
-
Well, what do you think?
-
I already painted the KS logo and it wasn't too bad. I used the silver Sharpie for the K, and red paint for the S. The red was the hardest, but not too bad. I had thought about useing the silver Sharpie for the grill's bars, but afraid that'll look tacky. I think it's best left black. Reason for thinking of chromeing, is that on the rear, there is a bar on the trunk just above the liscence plate that is to be chrome. I thought it might match up well to chrome both. I might use the BMF for the rear.
-
Suggestion's please. Should I chrome the grill with Bare-Metal-Foil, or leave it black?
-
Thank's, it's still way's to go. I'm still waiting for delivery my KS Diablo and KS 911. I've tracked it down to departing N.Y. on the 23rd, so I expect it to arrive Monday. Next step is to get the chassis finished and mount the interior to it. Then, finish up the body.
-
Here are a couple of teaser-shot's for yea! I hope you like cause I sure do!
-
Thank's, here's an update. Instrument panel successful, found an interesting secondary color for the interior. A color called French Chestnut. Done some trim work on the body as well. ###### I hate painting those thin lines! Especially on white cars where the slightest error is amplified! EEEEEEK! I think it turned out pretty darn good! Will try and get a better pic of the instrument panel later. You can see the Chestnut color in the center console here. Body paint Will need to touch this up with matching white. You can see the reflection off the gloss white on the roof here! Remember, this used to be all molded in black!

Okay, back in the game. I went to C.G.H today, and they did not have the Tamiya AMG version I was hoping to find. However, I did find Fujimi's bone-stock version of the same exact car. While at the hobby shop, I was able to open her up and make sure everything was identical and sure enough, it is the same car. So, for 20 buck's, I picked her up. So wish me luck with not screwing up this decal! LOL! This stock Mercedes 500 SL, came with a nice grey/white almost chequred pattern decal set for the seats which I'll probably use on another model. Not sure what to do with the rest of the kit. So, after some lunch, I'll CAREFULLY apply the instrument panel!
