Real or Model #86 FINISHED!
FujimiLover replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Is it Monday already? Holy smokes where the heck did my weekend go. Oh wait, I dont' work so I dont' have a weekend, LOL! I say real this time! -
I noticed the clear coat also caused some of the red to look weird, it's still smooth, just different shades in different areas as if the top coat ran a bit? I regret clear coating it, I just wanted to seal-in the decals. I tried to take a picture of it, but you can't really see the difference. Not sure what to do at this moment but let it dry till Wenseday. Makes me afraid to start my other models since my paint work is problematic.

Thank's guy's. I just fixed the wing onto her rear this morning, and just now clear-coated it before walking the dog useing Tamiya's clear coat. Clear coat is looking good, except unfortunetly, it seems to have faded some of the black a little bit. Well, from previous experiences, I'm not going to try and fix her for a few day's. Might go over the black again with semi-gloss black. Will post pic's tomarrow.

Why do you guys model cars?
FujimiLover replied to ericmaxman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Because I dont' have Jay Leno's income! I have a caviar taste and table-salt budget! LOL! I'm too broke to afford my dream cars, so I build models of those I'd like to have, or of dream cars I'll never own like the Koenig's. I also love small things, and small cars are cool! I enjoy seeing each one I build become better than the last one and learning from my mistakes so that the next one will be better still! -
After dropping off my Dad at the airport in Denver, I went to a fantastic hobby shop, one I've been going to for over 15 years, Colpar Hobbies on Havana Street, and I picked up the 6th Koenig Specials model from Fujimi. The Mercedes 500 SL BlackStar. BlackStar is just a name they gave for their black cars. Mine will be painted light gun-metal gray and a brown leather-look interior. Still waiting for arrival from Japan my Koenig Diablo and Koenig 911. Then, all I'll need left is the KS 928!

Thank's guy's! Just perfected the paint job on the rear wing finally and done some decal work. I also picked up Tamiya's clear coat and as soon as the wing dries and is mounted, I'll clear coat the entire car! Then the painfull task of installing the windows and lenses without snafu'ing!

Sneak peek .... Lindberg Charger Police Package
FujimiLover replied to SteveG's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Wasn't the character Baricade in recent Transformers one of these cars? It would be cool to build a replica of him. -
Reminds me of the Mach 5 for some reason! Nice Ferrari, nice model!
-
I can probably make one out of balsa just as easily. I was thinking the same thing for the front, just adding a bit of thin plastic to create that horizontal peice, and putty in the left hole underneath the turnsignal. Here is a better picture of the rear wing.
-
Aoshima would be just as nice. My only comment about Fujimi models is as I've said before, their the only ones that I know of that offer left and right hand steering.

Nice job, where did your "model" go? Did she get tired and leave? Anyway, now the theme for wheels seems to be have two different styles on either side of your car. What I mean, is one set on each side since you can't see both sides at the same time anyway, they have two different set's. I dont' see the point in mixing, but it works for theme. I understand the need for different wheels up front or out back though! Easier to change a pair than a full set!

I would suggest useing Model Master's from Testors, Light Ivory. It is the color I'm useing on my Koenig Specials Testarossa and I bet it'll look great on the inside of your BMW! Or, two-tone gray it like I did my Mazda RX7. I'd go for the Ivory, gives it that nice ritch leather look of luxury cars!

Cars you wished that was in 1/24
FujimiLover replied to ericmaxman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
98 Lotus Elise and/or Exige would be nice to have in 1/24 scale plastic model kit form. My Dad has two 97 Lotus Elise car's for a project he's working on and I'd love to be able to build a model of one for him. At least he has theme in 1/18 and 1/43 scale. I'm very suprised I have not seen the Elise/Exige in 1/24 plastic form yet! It's a darn popular and darn sexy car! -
A minor update, but update nevertheless. Done some more details. One nice thing about this kit, is Fujimi supplied a sheet of chrome tape to put in various location's of the model. Example, the front turn signal lense is backed with chrome, and they supplied you with a chrome peice for the mirrors! I decided to chrome tape behind the main headlight assembly. They wanted you to paint it silver, but that does not offer the refletctiveness that headlights require to look real. So, there is chrome tape behind the lenses. I also used the silver Sharpie to make the key-hole in the door. The body now just need's it's decals, and it'll be ready for clear coat! Then, the lenses and windows can go in place! Lense painting Supervisor. I dont' know how she got there without me noticing or disturbing anything!

I'm looking for solid body construction. What I mean, is no interior needed, just body, axles, and wheels. So the wood alone would be fine. I'm sure you've seen those big desk-top wooden model airplanes made in the Philipines? Those are super nice! Don't look like wood at all when finished! That is what I'm after, but for cars.

Thank's, but what's the best word for carving out big shapes? I want something that's relatively easy to carve, without being fragile. I've heard of pine, or mahogany being used, but not sure which is best.

Trim work done! Intake covers installed! Airdam Next step is the decals, clear coating, then the windows, lenses, tail-lights, and rear wing. Rear wing STILL waiting for paint! Will need to touch up the little spots where some reason the tape seemed to peal off a tad of paint. Not too bad, can easily be touched up later! Nothing to cry about that's for sure! LOL!

I'd like to figure out how to make pop-up headlights! That would be awesome, just flip a switch some where and the lights would pop up and light-up!

Cars you wished that was in 1/24
FujimiLover replied to ericmaxman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't one of these in 1/43 scale. 1/43 is the scale that hasn't missed anything as far as I know! -
Did some black trim today. Will wait a little bit longer before masking the bottom line of the side-windows. Also need to work on the airdam. The masking really helped for getting the top line of the front window perfect. This part has always been my worst area for painting as the line is so thin. The black rear quarter panel is what will be the inside of the air-intake. This makes it really dark and more detailed. Will also be painting the inside of that peice as well before glueing it here.

I'd need to find a better picture of the wing, but I had thought about that as well.

Hello. I've always been fascinated with concept cars and of coarse having a model of my own car, the 2001 Honda Insight. I'd like to learn how to scratch build my own cars in various small scales. What's the best material to use and what's the best method to go about doing such a thing? I've never really worked with wood before, so I don't know what's the best word for carving is. My brother used to make his own toy airplanes out of balsa wood and use some kind of filler to smooth it completely for painting. When done, you'd a thought they were plastic! I'd like to build concept cars and the Insight in 1/18, 1/24, and 1/43 and use wheels that already exist. I dont' care to much for the interior and chassis detail. I just want a nice looking body with a set of wheels to look at. Anybody done this kind of work before? Just scratch-building your own model car?

Cool, can't wait to see the engine! I heard there is available an offset kit for 1/24 scale models? True or not? Anybody know?

a good place to buy stuff online?
FujimiLover replied to Corvette.Jeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Um, didn't I post the same question a while back? I've purchased my current seven or so kit's on ebay. Have not yet purchased from those mentioned on-lines.
