What about velcro? Not the spiky grip side, but the soft fuzzy side? That comes in all sizes and colors and has a sticky back as well. I'd try velcro.......................

Newsflash! GM will kill Pontiac!
FujimiLover replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
AMEN BROTHER! I'm with you on that one. I've owned several Honda's since I was old enough to drive and they all have been great. As long as you treat'em right, they'll always bring you back home. I absolutetly love the reliability of my Honda Insight. Speaking of which, the new 2010 Honda Insight is coming soon, and it is a four door version, and look's better than the Prius. However, I've heard it gets around 40 MPG city, and 45 highway. Not as good as my Insight, but not bad for a bigger four door either! I'm glad to see the Japanese cars are still in the game! -
Of coarse! The only one peice I need. Thank you for your help anyway. Last night I went down town to the closest hobby shop and they didn't have one. Today I will look for it at the other two hobby stores. I bet Complete Games and Hobbies will have it as they have the best sellection. If you do happen to find one, let me know. I hate buying a full kit just for one part, although I was planning on building the AMG Mercedes anyway, so when I build it I'll just black-out the windows so nobody will know somethings missing anyway! I dont' want to do that on this one since I worked so hard on the interior already. I appreciate your efforts. I'm also looking forward to receiving the 928! Maybe I should try and find a plane'ol 928 kit as well for back-up decal set!

I'm pissed. I was about to apply the decal for the instrument panel which was a really nice set of white dials too. Damed decal folded over itselfe and in trying to fix it I ripped it in three peices to where it was unrecoverable. I'm really ticked at my selfe cause this is the second 500 SL kit I purchased because I lost the entire decal set on the FIRST ONE! That decal set is loooooooooong gone. So, I had to hand-paint in the white dials which really sucks cause I was aiming for perfection and authenticity here. Mad as heck! No way I'll be able to find another one of these kit's anytime soon and I seriously doubt anyone will have a spare decal sheet. I think what I'll do tomarrow is see if any of the local hobby shop's has at least Tamiya's 500 SL model and use it's decal sheet for instrument panel. I'm sure it's the same thing, maybe different color.

Painting detail's
FujimiLover replied to FujimiLover's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thank you but for my current project I went ahead and painted it as I saw fit. I did the chassis silver as suggested by the instructions, then I detailed the exaust in gun-metal with a titanium gold CAT. Look's good enough to me! Pic's posted in appropiate thread. Thank you, I will consider that next time I build another Mercedes. The next 500-600 SL I'd like do is the AMG one from Tamiya. For that one which has ton's more details, and is stock, I will get more detailed information on it for acuracy. -
Some chassis detailing. Decided to go ahead and paint the exaust system gun-metal with a titanium gold CAT. Interior, 2nd coat of paint on body, and painted roof. Seats are just sitting in place, not glued yet. Just posing for pic's. White paint came out nice, alot better than the red Testarossa. Roof

Painting detail's
FujimiLover replied to FujimiLover's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm just wondering what to color what on my model's chassis. Tempted to paint most of the exaust gun-metal to differeniate it from the rest of the chassis. I've looked at photo's of exaust systems and CAT's, and just about 98% of the CAT's I've seen are silver in color, but exaust systems veries from silver, black, gun-metal, whatever. I just wish I could find a photo of the Mercedes 600 SL chassis so I can at least get an idea of what to paint what color as close as I can get it. Even if it's not 100% acurate, it should be at least convincing. -
How important is it when you guy's build models, that you paint the details to exact spec's of the real thing? Alot of times we dont' have access to photos of the object we are replicating and have to make an educated guess to colors. Case in point, my Koenig Specials 500 SL that I'm working on. The instructions calls for the chassis to be all silver with black suspension parts. I can not find a picture of the real chassis anywhere to really know what parts to paint what color. Also, do you paint every nano-millimeter of the part even in area's that aren't seen? When I paint my parts, I tend to paint the ENTIRE part even if half of it is hidden from view. However, sometimes glue doesn't always like paint and vise-versa. So how complete are you when you paint parts as well as how accurate are you with colors? Is it okay to "make-up" your own color choicse for chassis?

Aw yes, the original disapearing doors! Nice blue, what shade of brown or paint did you use for the interior? We are our own worst critic's, if you hadn't mentioned the bumper, I bet none of us would have noticed! Nice job!

1/24 scale wood and leather
FujimiLover replied to FujimiLover's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I am certainly no expert at all thus my reasoning for starting such a thread. Appearently, your the expert and I would've never guessed that was real leather? I just assumed the fabric itselfe would be too thick. Will have to have a look at Hobby Lobby and see what they have for materials and maybe find something suitable and try it out! Are there any sticky-backed leather kit's? -
That Ford Focus look's like it is part of Revell's "Tuner" series kit's. Nicely done and interesting twist with that biger motor!

Man these seat belts are a pain in the azz to paint! Do I repaint the beige over this ugly black? How can I get this perfected? These are near impossible to mask in this tight area! Suggestions? I want perfection!

Hello there. I need some good pictures of the Mercedes Benze 500-600 SL Coupe chassis. This is for my Koenig Specials 500 SL which I just discovered the box sais it's a 600 SL. Not sure exactly what year it is, I'm guessing mid 90's? I just tried googling for it and I'm all googled out with no success. Need pictures so I can faithfully paint my KS 500 SL chassis appropiately. The instructions manuel wants it done in all silver, but I doubt everything under there is all silver. There's gotta be some color variations in the exaust system and what not.

1/24 scale wood and leather
FujimiLover replied to FujimiLover's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think useing real leather would be too thick for models, particularly smaller 1/24 scale models. Might be suitable for 1/18's and 1/16's. But I doubt it'll work for 1/24. I'll have a look at SMS's web site and see if they have anything of wood-style. However, I dont' think wood is as popular as CF is. -
Who is Chris LeClair? Yes, I do love these cars and have been in love since I was a young teenager back when. My dream is to own every scale model I can possibly find of every Koenig Specials cars. 1/18, 1/16, 1/24, and 1/43. I've almost completed my 1/24 scale collection but still waiting for the post-person to deliver my Diablo and 911. Will soon be getting my hand's on the 928! Be funny if all three arrived on the same day!

Chassis painted silver, and seats painted Sand Beige. I like this beige color, really will look hot against the white body! The tape you see there on the sides of the seats is my attempt to mask the seat belts. I couldn't do the backsides as easily but I've had good luck painting that part. It's just these side peices that give me trouble. So hopefully the masking job will work. Also primed the interior. Gotta wait a while for paint to dry before I can start working again.

1/24 scale wood and leather
FujimiLover replied to FujimiLover's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not talking about hoods, just interiors. I'm not concerned about the color of the leather as it comes in millions of colors, I just want the texture to look right. I've thought about that spray paint that "crackles" for painting engine parts and what not. Maybe that'll give the proper look? -
I noticed that the stock seats sit up higher than the racing seats do. So, I decided before I prime the interior, that I would raise the aftermarket seats off the floor by about 1mm useing peice of wood left over from a helicopter fuselage. This will get the "drivers head" at the right hight!

Removing permanent marker "paint"
FujimiLover replied to Chuck Most's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I think the stuff called "Goof-Off" work's as well as WD-40? I think I've heard of WD-40 removing permanent ink. -
Thank's guys for shareing. The arms on the Koenig Competition are thin and fragile. However, the ones on my 500 SL seem to be stronger, plus it's a simpler kit and I've never had a problem with this one in the past. Last 500 SL I built was silver with red interior. Looked okay, but no where near to what I can build today.

I primed the chassis, seats, and steering wheel. I will paint the chassis silver, and probably do some of the exaust system in gun-metal colors. Steering wheel rim will be brown, and seats will also be brown with black seatbelts. Center of steering wheel black with silver trim.

Is it possible to simulate wood-grain dashboards and leather upuhlstery in 1/24 scale? We know it's possible to simulate carbon-fiber and aluminum. It would be sweet if a company like either Scale Motor Sports or Bare-Metal-Foil would come up with wood-grain and leather. I know we have wood colored paint, but it doesn't look like our 1/1 scale woodened dashboard peices. I think my KS 500 SL calls for wood on the lower part of the dashboard.
