Here is a photo of the real car's engine. The model kit has these lines and letterings molded onto it. As I've primered these parts, and will paint'em silver, how do I accomplish this result? I've previously painted red first, then tried to hand-paint the silver lines and lettering and it turned out horrible. You couldn't read anything. So any suggestions on how to accomplish this finish? I've thought about those Testors paint-pens, but not sure how flat they are.

More engine parts primed both sides. Mock-up of the interior with the engine on chassis. I masked off the Ivory to paint the rear vent's flat-black. There's going to be very little blue accents on the interior. Probably just the steering wheel, gear knob, seat belts, and roll cage will be blue. Everything else Ivory.

Repainting a 1/43 die-cast model
FujimiLover replied to FujimiLover's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Thank's guy's. It'll be a long time before I start on the Insight. I'm enjoying building the Koenig Competition so far. So far, all the painting is turning out great with the excpetion of the occasional over spray which I'll have to touch up some how. Still, it's already looking ton's better than previous KS models I've built. -
If you have pictures, feel free to post'em here as you work. It will be interesting to see two of the same kit's be done differently.

Another paint question. I will be painting the body, this color. It is De Ja Blue, and it's as stated before a nice deep dark metallic blue color. Question regards to which color primer should I use? The body is molded in white, and I have white primer, gray primer, and flat-black primer. I'm thinking, I like how nice and smooth and professionally, the flat-black primer goes on and dries. I'm also thinking it will darken the blue quite nicely and might make it look closer to the car in this photo. What do you think?

Thank's guy's. This is my unicorn and I hope to god this one turns out perfect. Thank's to the suggestion with the engine color, it's looking great so far. Here are some photos for your drool. After the primer dried on the chassis, I masked it off as best as I could, and painted the TS-30 Silver Leafe on it. Then I continued to primer the other engine parts and main interior bucket. After the primer dried on both sides, I sprayed the silver. Then I cut off the interior bucket, and sprayed it Light Ivory. It's almost a creamy, vanillaly, yellow-ish whiteish color. You know, IVORY! Then I started assembling the engine. I'm going to have to touch up the engine part that's molded on the chassis as I didn't get some areas. Then, I'll mask off the engine completely, and repaint the flat-black where the silver oversprayed. I really appreciate the suggetion's for this silver, it look's great! I highly recommend useing the black primer first, especially if your engine parts are molded in different colors like this one was. Now, I have another question. I didn't realize that the Ivory was going to turn out glossy. How do I flatten it? I do have dull-coat, but not sure if that will actually "dull" the color. I noticed while painting my MR2 interior the dull coat, it just dried clear. I dont' think it "flattened" the color.

engine color

Thank you. I decided it's too bright and silvery for the Insight model. But, it's perfect for the engine. It look's like aluminum and sprays nicely ontop of the flat-black primer. -

My Cat loves boxes. Every time we get a new package, she jumps right in. She especially loves the large boxes that my Dad's RC model airplanes come in. I call her, the box-cat. -

Got it today, thank you. Look's like it might be what I want for my 1/43 Honda Insight as well. -
While getting some paint's at LHS, I found the Fujimi Koenig SPecials Competition Spyder. I also got several paint's. For both the Koenig Ferrari's, I got Testors One Coat Laque De Ja Blue which look's like a very nice deep dark metallic blue and should be similar to convertible one I posted elsewhere. For the KS Ferrari's interior, I picked up a Light Ivory spray and a flat blue bottle for the interior and dull coat. For the wide-bodied "green" MR2, I picked up Colors By Boyd Chezoom Teal Pearl which I've used once before and I really liked it. It's another dark metallic green without being British Racing Green. For painting the Ferrari's engines, I picked up TS-30 Silver Leaf which I think was recommended for engines and might even use it on the 1/43 Ebbro Insight. I also found Graphite Metallic as it's the closest to the burnt-iron. The only burnt-iron I could find was strictly for airbrush use only. Still no proper-putty for finishing my Veil-MR2.

Other threads in here have got me thinking. Post pic's of your pets! We all seem to be animal lovers here, so why not? Here's my sweet heart. Her name is Sony, she's about 4 years old. I was home alone one summer watching tv one evening and saw a little tiny dot zipping across the living room and under the couch! It was a mouse! So next day my Aunt and I went to the local humane society and picked her up. She was 1-2 years old and previously named Sundae. Typical name aint' it? Sony suits her much more, she's so sweet, so nice, and a very good hunter. We've had very little mice since then! She keeps me company when home alone. She follows me upstaris and downstairs, she sit's on my lap when watching tv, and she sit's on the shelfe above me when I build models.

Wow, I'd like to live to be 1,000 years old just to see how far we "human's" will go. -

Cool man, let us know how it goes, and dont' forget to build models on your spare time. Maybe show those models to Ford? -
My Lamborghini Countach model has a highly detailed engine, but has the option of being either inside the model, or outside on a display stand that you have to put together as well.

does anyone collect diecast?
FujimiLover replied to polandmob's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just got this Insight in the mail yesterday. I have a nice collection of around 15 or so die-cast cars in 1/43 scale. Everything ranging from a Smart Car to a nice black Lamborghini Countach, and two Knight Rider cars from Aoshima. One of KITT, and one of KARR, both with flashing lights. Will take pics of collection and post here. -
I got the other side of the chassis painted, today now that I have more cash, I'll be making a trip to the LHS to pick up some more paint. I'm feeling a nice deep dark blue, maybe see if I can find a nice Boyd's color, two-tone tan/blue interior, and gold wheels. I plan on getting flat-aluminum spray for the engine peices, tan spray for interior, flat blue for the interior accents, dull coat, and more gloss-coat, and that burnt-iron I'll eventually need for the Countach model. I keep thinking of the color cobalt blue, but not sure if I can find it in spray paint. Might even check Pep Boyz for it.

Bring Karl outside to meet your wife! That'll do it. Of coarse, she might never let you go back there again though.

Repainting a 1/43 die-cast model

Got my Honda Insight yesterday! Will wait for the right moment to repaint it. What should I use to strip the factory paint with? -
Cat's Rule, and dog's drool. You can train a dog, but the cat train's you. A dog will ask you to play fetch with it, the cat will say, "If you want it, why did you throw it in the first place?"

Is that Mugen CRX Pro the Tamiya one, or the Fujimi one? Pro.2 is Fujimi's. -

What tick's me off is seeing a dog loose in the back of a pick-up truck. Even if he's tied up he's still in danger. If you love your pet, and you have a truck, for heaven's sake invest in a bed cover to keep your pet safe. My cat is my life and we keep eachother happy. She has me well trained!
