  1. There is so much kvetching on this board about things like Camaro rooflines etc. etc. etc., that modelers who are interested in this car would find it hard to accept the inaccuracies and would have to apply a lot of reworking to make it up to their standards. Once again, take a look at the superb adaptations made by Matt Bacon, noted above. The original kits, while expensive these days, are usually available on eBay. Choose Aurora over Monogram.
  2. Hang in there. Everything you've done shows it's worth it.
  3. We'll see how it goes, but I think you'd have to expect some schtick from him for his perceived audience on a somewhat general interest channel. After all, he's been an NBC guy for a long time. Otherwise, he'd go more like a hardcore car guy on a special-interest channel like Velocity or FS1.
  4. I got your reply to my PM just now.
  5. I like it a lot. I haven't seen the online version enough to know if they're recycling any of that material.
  6. Comment deleted because I actually read a post I missed. Duh.
  7. This is why I always respond to this recurring topic by saying that it's better for the magazine to dump monthly names and just go with volume and number ID. If they want more info, they could print "whenever."
  8. Give the doors and the body some paint before installing so you get real-looking coverage on the inside of the jambs, etc (HOWEVER: the jambs on the doors and the body would be lined by chrome panels on this Mercedes).
  9. I bookmarked the article. I can hardly wait to use it at the right moment on Facebook, where others will refute it without having read it.
  10. I like where you're going with this. Your example and one called "Mr. Potter" look just right.
  11. Actually, there's not a lot in resin that's available in 1/16, or many aftermarket parts. For me, the best ones are 30s classics like Roll-Royces and Mercedes, plus newer sports classics like the Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing by Entex/Minicraft. Several muscle cars available -- it all depends on your interests. The thing about these larger kits is that they usually require adding more of your own extra detail. Take a look at all the 1/16 kits that Harry P has built and you'll see what the potential is. Not many good choices in 1/12. I keep a bookmark for 1/16 on eBay to see what's passing through: http://www.ebay.com/sch/Automotive-/2580/i.html?_nkw=1%2F16&_armrs=1&_from=R10&_ipg=&_pcats=1188%2C220&_sop=10
  12. I know this will be another of your museum-quality pieces, but what's going on with the Rolls woody?
  13. Can you identify the style and source of this grille mesh?
  14. I can see Harry P drooling now.
  15. If you fix the nose and roof front, then cast it, I would be interested in a body.
  16. I had that happen on Safari after the forum reset before I upgraded my Mac OS.
  17. You can give up on a plastic kit. But the excellent Franklin Mint 1:24 and Ertl 1:18 diecast models can be disassembled and remade in any form you want.
  18. You might try a bag of Googly eyes (used for stuffed toys/dolls) in a variety of sizes. Just remove the backing. In any case, you'll have slightly convex circles useful for multiple applications.
  19. I had mine stored in a spare room at the office for a long time then moved them to climate-controlled storage at Pro Storage ($75 a month and totally unnecessary), then into a non-climate unit which was just fine. I'd stick a thermometer in your attic to check maximum heat - shouldn't be a problem if the roof is properly insulated, but the cold should have no effect.
  20. I'd guess the ornament was from an Italeri kit. In any case, this is awesome.
  21. That is jaw-dropping work, and far exceeds what that kit can be if done in stock form. I noticed that the Flying Lady mascot seems much closer to scale than the kit version -- how did you accomplish that? But I'm confused...that's not the Lennon car I've seen since it's all Magical Mystery Tour, and the Lennon car was mostly psychedelic graphics on a stretched limo body with Series 3 dual headlights. Is this your invention? If so, it's totally brilliant.
  22. Available in the books section at Amazon.com: Basics of scale automotive modeling by Pat Covert Model car building: Getting started by Dennis Doty And there's always the Q&A / Tips, Tricks, Tutorials section on this forum.
  23. You nailed that radiator - one of the toughest parts to do, especially at smaller scales. The big question is how to do the gauge panel, which should be mother of pearl. Bass boat silver metal flake? Gold metal flake with silver on top? It's an issue.
  24. Beautiful.
