  1. Search on eBay or Google for dolls or action figures that are 9" or 23 cm, assuming a height of 6' for humans. Indiana Jones? Other media characters? I can't find the item number, but here's the description of something that looks good to me, on eBay US for $39.99 USD: Exclusive Premiere Casablanca 9" Humphrey Bogart Ingrid Bergman Hollywood Icons. Other search terms for that set would include character names, Rick Blaine and Ilsa Lund.
  2. On another thread about a Hubley Duesy, white walls were painted with gesso, sort of a primer for canvases for oil and acrylic painting. It has survived well over the years. As for the crossing radiator to firewall rods, check your references and you'll see that where they cross, there is a metal clip that holds them together.
  3. Such as a bag of mixed sizes of "Googly eyes " used for stuffed toys.
  4. Stunning stuff.
  5. I recently got a very old plastic toy of the XK120 roadster, which is about 1/15-1/16 scale. While it's truly a toy with metal axles, a thing that passes for an engine block, hollow 1-sided tires/wheels, and is missing the dashboard, the body is amazingly accurate. It won't take much to turn it into a very nice curbside club racer like the one in this thread, using a few parts from the 1/16 Jaguar SS100, and the hand-lace wire wheels from the 1/16 Mercedes SS Sonder Kabriolet make it look awesome.
  6. It's squished on my iPad but it's just fine on my iMac desktop. 'Tis a puzzlement.
  7. Okay, you're bingeing on the Bugatti like a dog surrounded by squirrels. How are you doing on this one?
  8. Eagerly awaiting the latest updates on this masterpiece.
  9. Slick, clean, great detail. Bravo.
  10. It's been eons since I built the 300 SL roadster above, but just looking at it (in spite of the really bad wheels/tires), I can tell the windshield frame is far more accurate than the Italeri roadster (cabrio) kit in either 1/24 or 1/16, both of which have windshields that are too tall and too squared off in the upper corners. Otherwise, they're the best of all 300 SL kits. The roadster is very correct to the 1:1; however, Italeri based their gullwings on the roadster body, which has different fender proportions and wider grille opening, making the Italeri gullwings quite inaccurate.
  11. Hubley's Mercedes roadster was a well-done if oversimplified kit. Their Rolls Silver Cloud (supposedly the only promo ever authorized by Rolls) is another matter-- while the body shape is quite acceptable, it's loaded with flash, terrible mold seam alignment, wide gaps in the opening hood and trunk, undersized tires and a blob of an engine. And the Flying Lady mascot is ginormous for the scale. All of this remains in the Minicraft reissues. Minicraft's "Phantom Squire" version tosses in ugly stickers to build a woody; They even issued that one with a misprint on the box saying it's 1/16 scale -- wrong! It's the same 1/24 kit, and I have it. There never was a 1/16 kit of this car.
  12. I'd go for almost any classic Rolls-Royce or Jaguar in 1/12 scale. There are a few in 1/8 and 1/16, but none in 1/12.
  13. It's squeezed in from the sides on your original post as I see it on my iPad, but looks fine here as I fill out the reply box. Go figure. But it squeezes again when I post it.
  14. I really like the Brooklands windscreens in the illustration. Not as common as a DuVall.
  15. Another great job. I think that the problem with the original hinges (along with other Entex, Minicraft , etc. reissues like the jag SS100) is that there weren't any.
  16. Excellent work. I bet it would look even more real in outdoor photos.
  17. I wasn't expecting the sweep that goes up to the fixed top. Perfect Deco touch.
  18. Is the paint spray can or airbrush? What brand?
  19. There are a few more photos at the top link in post 1, and I too would like to see more. This is killer stuff.
  20. Even so, you can build a nice-looking model from this kit if you address the issues mentioned above. You're halfway home if you conquer the following for an acceptable curbside appearance: The first and most important part is working on the hood fit. If this doesn't work, you've got a loser. You'll need to refine the windshield frame. You better be good with BMF. If you don't care about the heavy engine work required, just glue the hood shut.
  21. I have the Mercedes kits. Good luck repacking the box after checking out the parts trees.
  22. Here's how it works on my iPad (I don't get a cogwheel) to delete individual conversations, one at a time. Open the PM envelope at the top of the page You'll get a drop-down inbox list; click on any one and you'll get a page with that thread, plus your inbox on the left, and a Message button to the right on the header. Go to your inbox on the left and click on any individual thread you want to delete there, and click on the Message button; it will drop down a window that asks "Leave conversation?" Click on that and you'll get a pop-up box that asks if you're sure about that, so just click yes. Repeat for any individual messages.
  23. Never seen that kit before. Details?
  24. Lots of good ideas. Thanks.
