1/12 renwal cars any good??
sjordan2 replied to gbdolfans's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
For the Gullwing, go with the 1/16 Minicraft/ Entex, etc., which isn't perfect or easy -- DON'T do the Italeri Gullwing, which adapts the different dimensions of their 300 SL roadster kit. However, the 1/16 Italeri roadster may be the best of all 300SL kits, in spite of a windshield frame that needs to be rounded out in the upper corners. Actually, the Italeri 1/16 has better details; the Minicraft has a more accurate body and a complete spaceframe, but lacks a firewall, and has better wheels. My plan is to moosh them together. -
1/12 renwal cars any good??
sjordan2 replied to gbdolfans's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I could write many paragraphs on how bad the 1/12 Renwal / Revell kits for the Mercedes Gullwing and the Ferrari 275 GTB are. Big toys that make Barbie cars look like Pocher classics. The Ferrari is impossible to make look right inside or out. If Palmer had made a 1/12 kit, this would be it; every element of the body is dead wrong. The Gullwing can be made to look decent with an unnecessarily large amount of work. The body buck was pretty accurate, but whoever did the finishing details blew it. Advance at your own risk. But if you choose to go ahead, I can provide you with a lot of advice. PM me for lengthy details. -
I'm rediscovering the Beatles............
sjordan2 replied to JollySipper's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
When you look at it, Taylor Swift (2006 -- current) has now had a longer career on the world stage than the Beatles (not counting formative, non-famous years prior to 1962/63 -- 1970). It's just amazing the impact the Beatles had in such a short time. -
I will also revise my comment from spectacular to super-spectacular.

Looking good. I think you used the 300sl emblem intended for the trunk on the dashboard (way too big). You should use the smallest one at the bottom of the emblem sheet. Also, I would take a fine-point silver paint pen to the screws around the edges of the interior door panels.

I heartily recommend "The Beatles Anthology," an 8-episode TV documentary by ABC on 5 DVDs. And, as mentioned above, the DVD version of "Concert for George," an all-star memorial tribute at Royal Albert Hall, which also features Harrison's non-Beatles music. -
Standard screen, IMAX, RPX, 3D or not? Knoxville is home to Regal cinema, the largest movie exhibitor in the US, and we have all the variations.

It's silly that some would use a reverse image search. All the fun for me is the search. This particular one took a while, and I never did find your exact photo.

Please give details on the painted spoons. -
My dog started woofing at the thunder and lightning last night at about 2 a.m. and continued until 4. But it's 70 and sunny now in Knoxville. 76 forecast for Saturday. This weather trend is usually attributed to El NiƱo-- The Christ Child -- since it usually appears at this time of year, every few years.

Way to go. I've never seen anyone try to fix the badge.

Not bad for a guy who said he was going to take the Summer off. Now get back to the Pocher Rolls.

Kit Cars, Clones and Replicas in scale

I always liked the Aztec 7 (Fiberfab?). Reminded me of Bertone's 1968 Alfa Romeo Carabo concept -- available only in a tiny diecast. I would have liked to deck out an Aztec similar to the Carabo. -
That's all tongue-in-cheek, playful banter.

Outstanding. Another example of how good those Jo-Han classics were.

I don't see much value in it other than to sell later (by your heirs/survivors) on eBay. -
There was a movie that looked very cool back then, and I had seen an interesting sci-fi film called THX-1138 (a studio remake of a USC film school thesis) by a guy named George Lucas who had done American Graffiti. There had been very little publicity up to the film's release, so I was surprised to have to wait in line for 2 hours at the Houston Galleria. Wow, of course, for a movie buff like me. The response was so unexpected that there were zero toys or souvenirs available that Christmas. After several months, the merchandising onslaught began.

I just had that happen in an Off-Topic thread I initiated, and had to enter a new post.

Since I can't edit the last post, I'll just add this. Unlike Idol, there is no prima donna infighting among egotistical judges. Everybody likes each other (especially Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani), and it's a serious show despite a lot of levity. They're not only judges but coaches, and do the best they can to mentor the really talented members of their teams. While the production numbers are filled with glitz, this show is filled with heart. Sure, it's a singing competition like Idol, but they're miles apart. No rip-off here.
-
Absolutely. And while American Idol is heading into oblivion during its last season, The Voice is a ratings leader for its 2 weekly outings. And Snake, I agree with you if you're talking about Amy Vachal.

Been following it closely since top artists Jordan Smith and Emily Ann Roberts are from my neck of the woods. No question that Kentucky boy Jordan will win the competition. But my local Knoxville girl, 17-year-old Emily Ann Roberts, will win the multimillion-dollar superstar career like Carrie Underwood. In spite of the material she was given tonight that didn't show her voice to its full potential, she's right up there in Dolly Parton territory, and in her final appearance was jaw-droppingly, achingly beautiful

Excellent work, all of them.

These are shockingly great. Every one looks totally real. Amazing work.
