My AMT Gremlin is complete for now. It will get a coat of Future floor shine in a few weeks after the paint and decals are completely dry. Tamiya paint with Penngwen decals. Box stock other than seats stolen from a AMT Mustang kit. NOT a accurate replica of Wally Booth's Gremlin....wrong year and a few details....but it will look good on the shelf with my G&R Mustang and Maverick and the under construction Hornet. I am going to build another Gremlin as a IMSA RS race car. I was going to document all the 'fixes' I used to build my Booth car with that build.....but here is some info for the grille front end. At the base of the grille headlight unit there is a plastic that needs to be trimmed. If you trim these almost off the grille unit will fit into the opening like it should. The bottom sides of the grille unit should fit on the outside of the cars fenders. Kinda hard to describe but I will post pics later if you can wait. Making this mod also allows the fenders to sit correctly on top of the grille. This kit needs a number of small adjustments to help things fit better....nothing major but little things. My P/S build is about done so I will post those pics soon and start on No. 2 with how to pics.

Here is a quick mock up after it came from the paint booth. Still work to do. It will not be a exact replica of Booth's car, wrong year and details, but my tribute to the P/S Gremlin to sit beside my other 70's era P/S builds. I'll post more details later. Thanks R2! Tamiya paint....box stock other than the seats.....stock seats were too odd for P/S!!!

I vote the MPC Pinto and Pacer were better. They shared no tooling as AMT and MPC were big competitors at the time. The AMT versions were a little soft detail wise and not as many options. As for a Model King issue....R2/AMT/MPC does not allow private issue kits any longer. We hope to have some new private issue kits coming this year from Moebius, Revell and someone else.

Bring on all those 70's cars!! The MPC Pinto with the Pro stock option would be great. The only Vega left is that Vega/Monza thing Stevens issued a few years ago through AMT. We at Model King had them search long for any other Vega......it may be there...but they didn't find it then. The Volare is a no brainer again. Include the Road Runner stuff even if you can't put it on the box. And yes.....done right a Pacer could sell well. One of the few inline 6 engines.....maybe a pseudo Waynes World flame decals etc. The Pacer was also in 'Good Burger' as a delivery.....feed off that too. The MPC version had a roll cage and was raced in the IMSA RS series....so it is a race car!

Guys....the tool is more than 40 years old!!!! For it's age it pretty much 'state of the art'!! Now that's not to say there are some things that need fine tuning to build it. I am almost done with my Pro-stock version and there are a few gremlins in the kit to fix.....but NOTHING a average modeler can do. I'll post ASAP! Owning 2 AMC 1/1 cars I am more than thrilled to have a hard to get kit back. Now if they could find some old JoHan AMC molds in some vault.

Yes.....too deep for a stock rim. I've owned 6 AMC's and still have 2 .....worked on many of those wheels. NOT a major issue on the kit.

Some of my Mad Max vehicles are 'inspired' by the film as many are Aussie cars not available in plastic kit form. The car that hit by the truck and tanker with the weird bat thing on the hood was built with a modified Cuda.....close but not exact. I'll try and get some pics on the net. -
That's not warping......that's a result of the massive torque that little 304 puts out!

I am a big MM fan. I have 3 resin kits and both Aroshima injection plastic versions. The Aroshima version is the best by far but is a version, as stated that we only see for a few minutes. The Monsters in Motion resin is no. 2 of the kits I have. The MiM kit has a Max figure with it. It is a model of the car mid first movie. I also have a TNT resin kit. The master used is OK but the casting is poor. The best use for this one is to build it upside down and on fire! I also have a pre MM 1 version I built way back before any of the kits plastic or resin. It is a combination of a Jo/Han 72 Torino and a AMT 73 Mustang. I've also built a number of other MM vehicles. Here is Tina Turners Chariot from MMIII Built much like the 1/1 version on a Ford P/U chassis with a turbine (jet) engine from a Revell MIG kit. -

I have the resin conversion kit too. It was by a resin caster in TN but he ran into some issues and left the biz with a lot of unfilled orders. I'd buy another if it was made again...it is very nice. -
Right way to apply Future?

This is Tamiya spray can black with one coat of Future after the decals. Check the roof reflections. I've been using it for years and love it....but other like other clears....and it's best to find what you like.....but some of mine are 20+ years old and still look good....so I stick with it. -

How long had the paint been on the model??? It needs 2-3 weeks to gas out or it will crack the Future. What type paint was on the model??? Future is an acrylic base clear and reacts badly with many water based paints.....Tamiya is the worst. How thick did you apply it?? Too thick it will crack too. I apply with a super soft sable one inch which is used for Future and NOTHING else. Been using it since 1980 with out issue....after I found what to use it one and not use it on! -

Have not heard anything about it this year. I have not gone for two years as I could not get a table....I know the club that put the show on has been shrinking in numbers....maybe they have given up. It has been a great show in the past. -

I understand a C5-R is correct for these decals.....but had hoped they updated the body some like they have been doing with some of their kits of late. Still a decent kit but only a new set of decals and a box top. -

It's a reissue but new decals. I was a little disappointed that the kit was unchanged from the last issue and the body is incorrect for the version shown on the box. I thought for sure that when RM announced the kit they would update the body as the C6-R has replaced this C5-R. I love road race cars.....even produced some kits myself.....so I was happy to see a 'new' road race kit come to market........but a new box and decals is a little disappointing. -

Many states require a official ID to buy any paint. And purchaser must be 21 or older. Get something you own 'tagged' and have to pay to fix it and you may understand better. -
I'm not being critical of any one's building skills.....but I have yet to have a model beat me. Some can be difficult.....some easy.....but a builder can over come issues that an assembler can't. I built a bunch of McLarens for Accurate Miniatures. Tough builds but if I can most any one can. It does take patience and some past experience. But it's far from 'unbuildable' as it is labeled often. After a few McLarens the Vette was a breeze. My issue here is I have built 10-15 Moebius kits...cars, Sci Fi, Figures....all were fantastic. How they messed up this bad on ONE kit does make me wonder. I did not plan on buying it but now I may have to just to see for myself. The current issue of SAE and a few online reviews don't mention any of these issues either......so something strange is going on here...........

I'd be real interested in how these became available. My family was involved with both the old Accurate Miniatures and the revived AM. I knew all parties from both companies. The revived AM was headed up by an ex Revell Monogram exec and a money guy from NC. The art director was my brother in law Tom Myers who passed very expectantly DEC 3 years ago. XS Tuning was run out of the same building in Concord as AM. Last I heard the business was being sold......but I guess something has happened now and assets are being dumped. Last time I was in the building there was a bunch of kits, TONS of XS stock and a room full of parts and test shots including maybe 20 of the AM NASCAR Taurus kits that were never released and some McLaren kits too. Doubt we will ever know what really happened....or if the kits will ever show up again.

Great stuff!!! I saw him at Toledo just as he started to sell stuff. He had bags of 'mistakes' cheap and I loaded up on them. VERY small flaws some I can't find.
