  1. That's cool! Love the burnout! I can almost smell the burnt rubber! Sam
  2. I assume you mean favorite engine bay from our own builds. My real favorites are about a hundred done by others on this forum. Anyway, here's my best effort, a 66 Mustang with a resin 6 banger from Kitchen Table Rasin dropped in. The six left so much room in there, I had to add details to fill up the space! Sam
  3. This is the only wagon in my collection, a Revell 48 Ford woody. It's for use on my 1950's diner diorama. It's supposed to be a veteran of about 10 years of family vacations, hence the travel stickers. It also has an "I Like Ike" bumper sticker. That's President Dwight Eisenhower, for you younger guys!
  4. Cole, the bricks are just paper, they're not 3-dimensional. I found a sample of a brick design on Google, and printed several sheets of it out. I had to experiment with the scaling to get the size right for 1/25 scale. Each brick is about 3/8" long: about 8" in scale. The paper is glued to the foamboard walls with Elmer's spray craft glue, which is really sticky. Don't get it on your hands! I cut the window and door openings in the walls first, then glued a sheet of brick over the whole wall. Then I cut out the brick paper from the openings with an X-acto knife. The wall corners are mitered, so no foamboard edges show. It was not too hard to do. I randomly scuffed the brick surface with sandpaper to make it look a little bit worn and dirty. Sam
  5. Ditto everyone above. Just gorgeous! Great work! Sam
  6. LIAR! That's no model! It must be real. There's even a guy standing in front of it! Too much detail to be a model. No model builder is that good! Of course I'm just pulling your chain, John. To build one model like that was amazing enough, but now TWO? Wow! Simply amazing skill! Sam
  7. Looks good so far. Nice work on the wooden bed floor! This will be a nice truck when it's finished! Sam
  8. ra7c7er, The stove is pretty simple. The front plate, door, and hinges are just pieces of styrene with the corners rounded, glued to the barrel. I drilled some combustion air holes under the door. The door handle is thin craft wire with one end wound around a piece of music wire. I drilled a 1/4" hole for the pipe, and made a flange from one of my blood sugar test lancets, and glued it on. The barrel supports came with the resin barrel, so I just glued them on.I sprayed it all with flat black, then stuck the stovepipe (a cut down bendy straw) in it. Here's a pic. Sam
  9. Great concept, nicely done! Nice to see something that's really different. Sam
  10. Very nice! I always liked those flat-nosed pickups and vans. Great color scheme! Sam
  11. Definitely a cool rod! Nice work on the finish. I'm not sure how that rear suspension would work. It looks like the axle is tight against the frame and can't move upward. Nice model! Sam
  12. Here is a pair of Lindberg trucks from kits I got at the local Ollie's for $7.99 each. They're sitting in front of my "Dad's Garage" diorama (see my post in the dioramas section). The 34 roadster pickup is built pretty much from the kit, using the turtledeck included with it. I used parts box slicks and front fenders, and chopped the top and windshield frame a little, and stuck an old luggage rack on the back just for kicks. The 32 sits on the 34 frame, minus its fenders. It has a 289 from a 66 Mustang in it. I chopped the top in a rat rod style, with bare welds. I shortened the bed, and used the custom wheels from the AMT 51 Chevy kit. The kit has plastic tires, so I stuck a round Band-Aid on each tire, then sprayed them with flat black. Pop off the Band-Aid, and voila - wide whitewalls! These kits are both very simple (crude?), but fun to build since they were cheap! I had fun with them. I hope you guys like them, even though they lack a lot of detail. Comments welcome! Sam
  13. Hi, guys. I just built this garage diorama. It's essentially finished, but more detail will be added as the mood strikes me. The walls are foamboard with brick paper glued over it. I bought the windows and doors from Colorado Structures. The floor is painted plywood. I found a batch of resin accessories on ebay, including the gas pump, a 55 gallon barrel (which I turned into a stove), a gas can, and a trash can. All the signs came from pictures online. There's a rock cliff behind the garage. Rock formations are cast from plaster and painted. The junk car bodies have been in my parts boxes for 40+ years! The diorama is built on a styrofoam base. The garage was patterned after several old garages near my home. Here's the barrel stove and heat deflector (alum. flashing). Pipe is a bendy straw. Top view. The roof lifts off. I'll add more details inside later. Sticks in the lower left hold the garage door in the open position. Edsel and 56 Ford drag racer junkers rusting away. This was fun to build - took about two months between model builds. I hope you like it. Comments welcome! Sam
  14. Here's the post of my model of my first car, a 1965 Corvair convertible. I bought the car in 1970, and built the model that same year. I just rebuilt and repainted the model last December. I added a resin uptop from Modelhaus. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=38985&st=0&p=402436&hl=corvair&fromsearch=1&#entry402436
  15. Cool! Looks "ratty"! Nice job on the rust, and I like the interior. Sam
  16. Wow! Very nice build! Great color scheme, and the engine detailing looks really good. Love those 55's! Sam
  17. I picked up the 53 Ford hardtop, and the 34 and 32 pickups. I'm working on the pickups now, doing some mix 'n match with their parts, making fenderless rods. I'm amazed at how simple/crude those kits are. They're not very accurate, and lack a lot of detail, but in a way, that makes them fun to build, especially since I got them cheap! Sometimes I enjoy whimsical builds, when I don't have to think about being true to scale. Maybe that's blasphemy to some modelers, but I'm having fun! Sam
  18. Just great! Looks like Herbie's evil twin! I like the engine detail and the metal firewall treatment. Really nice work! Sam
  19. Wow! Very nice rebuild! The interior is great. A friend of mine has a 1:1 63 Bonnie convertible in a deep red color with a 389 V-8. He let me drive it once. Sweeet ride! Sam
  20. Gus is on the money! Pure skill makes a great model. Nice job on this Bonnie! Sam
  21. A beauty! Great color, and I like the connie kit. Interior is great - looks very real! Nice work! Sam
  22. Very nice Chevy! Good color scheme. The red in the interior accents the black and silver just right! Sam
  23. Here I am with the Model T rat rod I built a year ago. How did I get so old? I'm just a kid building model cars! Sam
  24. That is definitely cool! The flames give the old land yacht a whole new personna! Great concept, very well done! Sam
  25. Very nice! The chop really makes the model. The red top looks cool, too. How about adding some taillights? Sam
