  1. I love watching builds like this and your's is no exception! I agree with Harry, it's like watching a real car being fabricated. The attention to detail and accuracy is nothing short of incredible.
  2. Nice tip! I'll have to give this a try. Really carpet-like.
  3. I'm going to be painting a car body for the first time with acrylic, water based paint. Is there a "gassing out" period with these before clearing, like with solvent based paints or can they be cleared as soon as it's dry? I realize that there isn't the solvent to gas out but not sure if it needs 5-10 day's like say enamels would. I'm also planning on clearing this with pearl mixed into the clear coat. Will enamel clear thinned with lacquer react with the acrylic paint, or is it best to try something like Future as a clear coat since it's already acrylic itself? I do plan on experimenting on plastic spoons some, but any guidance or personal experience is helpful. Thanks!
  4. Wow for sure. Some really great work and attention to detail going on here.
  5. I think at it's heart, the rat rods were a way to build a car on a budget with out fancy/ expensive paint and get out there and drive it. Is it possible that some of these people with them have now saved the money to spruce them up and get them painted or fixed up a little "nicer"? Maybe that's part of the change in the trend. Just a thought.
  6. Great build of a beautiful truck. How did you do the gauge cluster? Is that photo etch? Looks real good.
  7. I started a topic on the same one a while back. Check it out here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=77275&hl= I haven't got one, though Im still considering it.
  8. Wow, that is nice! What's not to like? Really great work.
  9. Such a beautiful build. I'm going to have to get one of these kits at some point since it builds so nicely. That grill is a work of art and really gives it that custom touch.
  10. Hi Robert, I'm in Alameda as well! Get some discount coupons and check out the Michaels in Emeryville. They have a good stock of Revell kits that would get you started. There's also a Hobby Town USA in Concord: 4525 Clayton Rd, Concord, CA 94521 that can get you set up with paint and supplies. Those, plus the internet and some searching will get you all taken care of. Happy building!
  11. Great looking Impala, Ben. Which version did you use for this? I really like the firewall with out holes for the hinges going through the heater box. I'm building 2 of these and have both the Revell versions; the Special edition and the SS California wheels version. Both have the hinges going through the fire wall. It's frustrating.
  12. I don't know that I would pay, but I think if there was a "premium membership" option, it should be included with a magazine subscription and offered as a paid option to those that don't/can't subscribe. I use ad block plus and don't see any of the ad's, so they don't bother me what so ever.
  13. Thanks for the picture. They are good looking wheels for sure and might work for what I'd like to use them on. I appreciate you taking the time!
  14. Looking good so far on this. It's funny because I was just asking about this kit in the reviews section. Do you think you could post a picture or two of the just the rims, front and back? I'm really curious about them for a build of mine. Thanks!
  15. Does anyone happen to have pictures of the actual contents of this kit? I'm considering getting it for the new rims as well as the Hemi, but am curious how the parts actually look. Thanks in advance!
  16. Thank for the advice and insight everyone. I may just pick one up and put it through it's paces and see what happens. The price is pretty good. The picture is pretty funny having the air outlet on top coming back into the users face, but I realize it's meant to be placed in a window, which fortunately I have a perfect spot for it. If I get it, I'll let you all know how it works out. Thanks again!
  17. http://www.amazon.com/Master-Airbrush%C2%AE-Portable-Airbrush-Extension/dp/B00B2TESUQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1374266654&sr=8-1&keywords=spray+booth I've found this spray booth online and I like the price. There's no way I can afford to drop $200-300 right now for a better booth, but as I live in a balconyless apartment, I have no where to spray and I'd like to get back into building. My main concern is use with hobby lacquer and enamal paints and spray cans that may be flamable. The notes on this booth say NOT to use it with flamable paint, but being that it's designed for the hobbyist I can't imagine them not taking hobby paints into account that are not water based. The last thing I want to do is have a potential hazard on my hands so is anyone using this booth with enamal and lacquer paints with out any issues? Thanks for any replies!
  18. I'm liking where this is headed and I can't wait to see more!
  19. Very nice model! Is the front suspension from the pre-painted Customshop version of the Vicky? I've been looking for a front suspension set up like that for a couple of builds. Thanks!
  20. So good to see this one done. It's magnificent for sure. You really did this kit justice!
  21. I know there's a lot of info and opinions out there about spray booths but I have a very basic question that I hope can be answered easily enough. The back story here is that I'm going to be moving into an apartment with no balcony or any real area that I can paint in. I'm thinking about buying a spray booth so I can continue to build. I'd have to vent this out of one of my windows and despite being on the third (top) floor, I'd hate to bug my neighbors with excessive fumes or overspray. So my question is this: If I were to use a professional spraybooth i.e. a Pace booth, how strong are the fumes at the vent and with proper filtering is there any appreciable amount of overspray that could potentially bother my neighbors? I'd probably be using mostly and airbrush but would use spray cans as well. I'm curious to hear your thoughts and thanks for taking the time to respond!
