  1. You're right Mark. I dont have many MPC kits...but the first box I checked was the Ramchargers dragster I bought many many years ago and evidently I put the beefy slicks from that kit in my build box. I also checked my MPC More American Graffiti Milner dragster kit...they're Goodyear Blue Streak Dragway Specials...so it was definitely the Ramchargers dragster. I knew the knowledge and experience on this Forum would narrow it down...thanks Steve & Mark !
  2. OK...I have two or three MPC kits in my stash...think I'll check those kit boxes to see if I grabbed them from there. Thanks for the tip !
  3. Revisiting a sports car build I wanted to modify for the quarter mile strip...I discovered this pair of soft vinyl slicks...with crisp M&H Racemaster lettering. I pulled them from somewhere...cuz they looked about as bad ass as a scale slick could look...without being over the top cartoonish. Wanting to complete the build I hope to identify the source ...especially if I want to source them again from the mountain of kits in my mancave. Any help from you knowledgeable modelers would be much appreciated. P.S. Actual measurements of each slick are 1-5/16 inches in diameter with about a 5/8 inch opening , and a 1/2 thickness....making it one of the largest slicks Ive come across in 1/25 scale ( probably why I pulled them from a kit years ago )
  4. Thats a shame. Wonder what became of them. I never built one...but they were unique for the time. Now and then I used to see one of those pop up on eBay...and they'd command righteous bucks.
  5. No....you need to move it to " Under Glass ". Or start a Diorama build.
  6. Perfect capper to this Build thread !
  7. A sample of some of the diverse builds on display Saturday....
  8. Thanks for your post. Getting a nice finish paint job has been my Achilles Heel for quite a few years now...I envy those modelers who achieve a "miles deep" show quality paint job. I gravitated to Tamiya rattle cans myself a while back because with a little experience I've been able to build up suitably glossy paint finishes and have been satisfied just polishing out and waxing. I've been hesitant to top them off with the cear coats..having been satisfied with the look " as is ". I have purchased a few cans of both TS-13 as well as the Testor's Extreme Laquer " Wet Look Clear " and have yet to try them out..fearing the talk of hot solvents damaging the finish, yellowing ...and decal eating. Think I might try your suggestion of building up a clear coat by misting first...then applying a gradually heavier coats. Any tips on length of time between the coats?

  11. Ive attended the TAMS Show/Model contests the last 3-4 years...there's a lot of automotive categories ( more than most IPMS shows ) and they're pretty well attended.
  12. I came across this build while looking for builds of this very same kit I found on eBay for a reasonable price. If I didnt see your gloved hand in the pics I'd swear I was looking at photos of the real thing in Hemmings or some other classy car magazine!
  13. You should see these kit prices...
  14. I've been buying model car "relics" off eBay for a few years now...and that kit is one of the rarest gems out there...almost impossible to find...and when found...Big Bucks !
  15. I have that AMT '34 Sedan kit as well. Seems to me it received a lot of criticism from experienced modelers back in the day as having inaccuracy issues ...body-wise. Mine is still stacked away in my kit stash.
  16. Saw this Packard at the NSRA show today in York Pa.
  17. Wow...thats a lot of verbiage! I liked it when IPMS in Richmond and Fairfax Va simply said that "OTB - Out of Box" meant "kit parts only"...you can make some alterations that fall under good modeling skills...like filling sink marks, smoothing seams and ejection pin marks, drilling out exhaust ports, etc...but nothing outside of kit parts can be used..."except paper seat belts and decals sourced from other kits or aftermarket sources". Beyond that...NYET. And instruction sheets MUST be included.
  18. I for one appreciate the addition of the "Out of Box" categories in local model shows/contests. Aside from the opportunity to decompress and just re-hone basic building skills after a period of super detailing a project...the more categories that are available... the better.
  19. Love the color combination and period perfect look !
  20. Yep...no other cost involved.
  21. Modlbldr sent me a can. $6.70. " ground only " postage. Might take a little longer to get to you.
  22. Yes...it was one of those rare Renwall Revival kits. Keith was able to adapt much of an AMT '59 Fury kit to enhance the detailing.
