That is one beautiful paint job and model oldscool

Although this is not a kit I would build myself, I always get a kick out of seeing one built. Great job and the wacky velocity stacks are perfect for the theme. Makes me wonder why Tom didn't think of that when he designed it This has to be the most popular of the Tom Daniel rereleases from the number of builds I have seen. oldscool

Wow Curt, that is one of the best Cobra models I have seen in any scale oldscool

New reissue of Monogram 56 Chevy Belair

Hey 006, yeah it can be built totally stock. It comes with stock hubcaps and manifolds and a bench seat, just keep in mind this kit is not real detailed. If I were going to build a detailed box stocker I would go for the newer tool Revell 56. The one thing that I think is better about this kit is that it doesn't have the "snow plow" front bumper that the new tool has. oldscool -
Hi Gary, that's Testors Lime Ice one shot laquer. I love this paint although it does take 2 coats no matter if it is called one shot. oldscool

1974 Neil "Soapy" Castles #06 Kimball Music Centers Dodge Charger

I think it looks great The paint jobs on those cars weren't perfect anyway. oldscool -
She's getting close to being finished now. Added whitewalls to the front and decided to keep the black wheels. Got all the body trim painted and will admit I have done better at painting trim. Still painting the hood and scoop. The hood will be flat black with an aluminum scoop to look like a home made sheet metal scoop. A cloud came over right when I snapped the second pic so I used the quick fix tool in my Dell image editor to lighten it up and it made the color a little off. Actually, it looks better And here is a sneak peek of where I'm going with the Monogram 56 Chevy.

I had their model A highboy kit back in the 90s which really wasn't a highboy as it had full fenders and I thought it was a fantastic kit. It was well molded and had a beautiful set of whitewall tires and the flathead was period perfect. I would buy and build another one of these kits in a heartbeat. oldscool

New reissue of Monogram 56 Chevy Belair

Hi Billy. I was kinda hoping it would be black also as the 55 street machine I'm building is black and the plastic seems to be easier to work with than the white. I like this kit in spite of what i have heard about it over the years oldscool -
That is beautiful! I'm diggin' the recessed license plate and the grille especially. oldscool

That looks fantastic just like it is and great color! oldscool

Nice interior work and those wheels look good on it even though I'm not a big wheel fan. oldscool

Thanks for the tip Dave. Since I will be using Acrylic semi - gloss black, I may be able to use alcohol rather than thinner. It scares me to put thinner on a finished part. I now have the body and chassis permanently glued together and the firewall done. It's not contest winning work but it looks a lot better than the big gap. Assembled the front suspension and it's a lot sturdier than I thought it would be. Now in the process of painting whitewalls on the front tires. Will try to have more pics tomorrow. oldscool

Alright! someone besides me is building one from the old Monogram street machine series Hope you have better luck than I have had with the 55 Chevy and that color is great. Please post progress pics. oldscool

That is a beautiful model Bill and I too have been following this one from the beginning. As for the trunk; I have never seen one of these kits built that had a good fitting trunk so it's not just you. I learned a couple of things from this tutorial as well and am inching my way toward your level of skill. oldscool

A solution to the firewall issue came my way sort of by accident. I bought the new California Wheels release of the 57 Belair and it just happens to include a complete sprue from the 55/56 Chevy kits which contains the firewall that won't be used on the 57. As soon as I saw it I knew I had what I needed. I can't use the entire part without cutting the front of the interior bucket away as it won't fit flush over the existing firewall so... this is what I did: After I fill the hinge slots it will cover all of the gap but the part at the top of the concave area as well as add some detail. This will work well enough to satisfy me. While I'm posting pics, here is one of the painted side trim. I actually masked this with Tamiya tape: She will be done in no time now. oldscool

Actually Bill, they could be mounted either way. oldscool

I got the new release Revell California Wheels 57 Belair. I bought it mainly for the chrome reverse with moon wheels and am really disappointed these wheels are for the large diameter tires! . Oh well, another 57 Chevy is always good oldscool

New reissue of Monogram 56 Chevy Belair
oldscool replied to oldscool's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
You are correct sir. The 283 didn't appear until 57. As a side note; the box says it is a Corvette engine which means the valve covers should say Corvette rather than Chevrolet. oldscool -
This one looks good too although i never got into the monochromatic thing. I would like to get a closer look at that 32 Vicky in the background if you could post some pics of it. oldscool

That looks good and I bet it would sound awesome with those long straight pipes. You need to work on getting your pics focused better though. oldscool

I love it! Something about side by side engines and front mounted blowers that always gets my attention. First time I have ever seen the car number and class painted on the tires. oldscool
-
Now that's different! A hot rod with an Offy engine. I kind of like the unrestored version. oldscool

Well, I overcame the fit problem by trimming a little off the front edge of the dash and removing and sanding on the windshield. Now there's a slight gap at the top of the windshield but I can live with it. So this is where things are at now. Almost a complete mockup. I'll wait till last to attach the front suspension as it looks pretty fragile and I may change the wheel color yet. I'm going to scratch a radiator hose and cap as well as a cap for the Moon tank. I promise I will paint the side trim before I'm done. And I'm going to go with a black hood. The pics now show the look I'm going for.
